Anyone having problems with Eir today?

My eir broadband isn’t working at all and my phone on eir mobile has limited or no broadband connection. I can’t get to any of the eir websites from another ISP (three). Am I alone?

Edit: When I ring 1901, it rings a few times and then hangs up.

You're not alone. Same here and I only got it installed yesterday so not a great first impression.

Same here, broadband is normally fine but not working at all today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 490 ✭✭Pablod

Not just you, my went about 2-3 hours ago
It seems to be a nationwide issue across land and mobile broadband, the support webchat went down about an hour ago and even the Eir.ie website is completely down.
People on Twitter have been saying the main 1901 line is not functioning correctly with calls being cut off...

The reps on Twitter are just saying they are investigating it and wull put an update on their support page (but the website is down - so figure that one out)

No, my is the same for about the last hour. Keep getting ISP errors, DNS errors, privacy errors. Even now it's only half loading Boards with only text visible.

Are customer care on at the weekend?

Have been only able to connect to Boards and RTE for about last 45 minutes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭BHP

Same for me. Eir bb down and Eir web sites are not responding. Switched to Vodafone 3G and Eir websites are not responding from other ISP

Seems to be a DNS issue. Change your DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 or other public servers. Google for instructions if you don't know how and you have access to another network to do the search!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,616 ✭✭✭corsav6

My eir mobile data is hit and miss all morning too, full signal but constant connection issues across multiple sites.
I've been with either/meteor for well over 10 years and this is genuinely the first noticeable issue I've had.

Same here. The Eir Vision tv is working but the internet is not working so i've to tether my phone internet to my computer which i was currently then i changed to googles DNS instead of Eir at the moment. Glad to know it's just not a problem here.

    +1 for changing your dns

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 62 ✭✭Hespy

You can actually update DNS directly on the modem. Had updated it just on my laptop, but once I set it as 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 on the modem, everything across the network is working properly again!

EDIT: apologies, was actually logged into my Netgear Orbi admin when I updated the DNS. So not certain if it's possible on the Eir modem.

Changing the DNS got my phone back working again. Does anyone know how to get my Chromecast to do the same?

Changing DNS worked for me too

Depends on the router, but for me...

    1. Go to http://192.168.1.254/ (or type cmd and press enter, then type ipconfig /all look for your Default Gateway. Replace the numbers in my link with what you see.
    2. Log in (logins may be on your router, if you haven't changed them before), then go to the Internet tab
    3. Half way down under WAN-1 (or similar), you can click edit to change your DNS.
    4. Use 1.1.1.1 as primary, or 1.0.0.1 as secondary. These are open dns settings, and are much better then Eir's ones.

Out here in Mayo also, kinda glad I'm switching next week. Recent service from Eir has been appalling.  I spect over 40 mins on 1901 yesterday - that includes about 22 mins waiting for an answer and another 18 mins on hold mid way through my call.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,612 ✭✭✭bassy

Gone here in north Kilkenny, but changed dns and all working fine again.

No data connection here in Dublin central.

A close friend works in the technical side of eir and confirmed long ago that they are running way above capacity and simply don't want to spend the money to sort it.

    No surprise

How long will this take to fix anyone know?

Only have mobile so DNS thing wont work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,635 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

Yes. I am having problems with my eir mobile connection in the Blackrock area of South Dublin. Can't use Youtube, Steam or microsoft so far with my broadband today. Some other websites are working though including Boards and other forum sites though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,411 ✭✭✭✭flazio

Also had the problem. None of my Wifi devices or my laptop via cable would connect to the internet. Oddly the Eir TV service was fine.
Did the DNS change and I'm back online.
Surely if its such a wide spread problem, news media should be picking up on this and getting in contact with Eir to spread the word of the fix.

    This too shall pass.

Our evision is working fine, but everything else Wi-Fi enabled is not working. Can't fathom it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 483 ✭✭jace_da_face

It not a fix for Eir Mobile, i.e. 3G/4G. Until they fix their DNS for Mobile customers, we're buggered.

OK, I'm going to try to post the idiots guide to changing your DNS to google for F2000 modems
first open a new tab and enter http://192.168.1.254/ into the address bar
username is admin and password will be your wifi password as printed on the back of the modem
From the top of the page click Internet
In internet settings go to the bottom of VDSL WAN-1
just after IPv6 address prefix list you'll see two buttons, Delete and Edit.
    Press Edit
Scroll down until you see an unticked box called Static DNS
    Tick the box
8 more boxes should appear called IPv4 Primary DNS Server and secondary DNS Server.
In each of the boxes for the Primary server replace all the numbers with a single 8
then in the secondary server replace the first two boxes with 8 and the last two boxes with 4
It should look something like this.
    IPv4 primary DNS server: [8].[8].[8].[8]
    IPv4 secondary DNS server: [8].[8].[4].[4]
Click Save a few lines down.
After about a minute. Internet should be restored. There should not be a need to restart your modem.
    Hope this helps someone.

    This too shall pass.

My phones will connect to WiFi, nothing else will connect (laptop, TV etc)

Have reset the router, no joy

I'm tired of eir. We started contract in Jan, we have had 4 outages since then, each one lasting a couple of days and what I've started to notice is that it's always at a really inconvenient time, like Friday at 6pm of a bank holiday weekend etc. This is the 5th time they have failed us. Partner works from home and this really drives him up the wall. Won't be renewing our contract.

That worked, thanks. Will I need to change those numbers back when the fault is fixed?

Thanks. Does the Static DNS box need to be unticked again when everything is up and running again?

Edit: Same question as above really!
