    Thank for that
Once again boards to rescue. Eir are chronic when it comes to customer service.
Will I need to undo what I’ve done when issue is resolved?

You don't have to. It's personal preference really.

How do I get around this DNS thing on an Android phone? Crazy that this has gone on all day and more than likely tomorrow too.

I have a load of things "linked" to my Eir modem, a TP link wifi extender being one. I have had loads of trouble with linking the two for months but finally resolved. Will the DNS issue be fixed eventually where I can continue to use current settings. Don't want to go changing DNS and getting more problems with the TP link again

It will be fixed. When is the issue. I'm surprised it's going on this long tbh.

Just curious : anyone using Eir Broadband Talk?
Is it still up and running? Or is it also vulnerable to a DNS issue ?

    Is Eir TV still up?

If it uses an ip address to connect it will work if it uses a domain name to connect it won't work.
Eir Talk connects to the domain vobb-pub.voice.eir.ie so that won't work unless you set an alternative dns server on your router like people have been recommending in this thread. I've no idea about the TV service.

I'm just wondering as it really doesn't say a lot for the robustness of their infrastructure if we're headed towards a PSTN switch off in a few years time.
Surely the whole point of a primary and secondary DNS server is that if one goes down the other doesn't.

You'd expect them to be on different hardware and in different data centres.

Eir vision has had no problems all day.

Eir vision must connect directly to an ip address without using a domain name linked to an ip

The app on smartphones is not working unless DNS is changed. I suspect the phone connection from the router is also not working as it registers against a voice.eir.ie domain which will fail to resolve.

    Certainly a drawback for VoIP.

I don't have eir TV so can't comment.

It's multicast traffic from the local node, not like the rest of your traffic.

I use iphone to access the internet - no landline so 3g/4g only. No access today.. BUT when I set up the hotspot and connect my tablet to it i can access internet, email etc.

    Seems counter intuitive but works

Your tablet must be set to use a dns server that does not belong to Eir.

Same for me an I'm in Tenerife. Network connectivity was fine but couldn't browse.
    DNS error
Didn't matter if I refreshed or switched between movistar or orange. Problem exhibited over here too. Only back working

Service is now back. Is yours?
    Thanks for reply

If it wasn't for the posts on here I wouldn't even know about it, even though I am an Eir customer I never use their dns.
It would seem it's working for everyone again and they have the server back online.

Broadband is working fine on the desktop, on a wired connection. The laptops internet connection is working fine, on wifi. But neither my playstation 4 or nintendo switch, can connect to the internet.I get an error message, saying that both machines aren't able to obtain an ip address from my modem.

With the Internet down for a while, I found out that my family are actually nice people to talk to. Every cloud has a silver lining :-)

I'm finding the dns (Google I think?) that was recommended earlier in the thread is slightly quicker than the Eircom one!!

My laptop has been fine with  no problems but tv wont work. Had to change the DNS on my playstation to get it to work.
Tried changing the routers DNS but it wont connect to the router login page? its annoying. I hope they are working on it today.

Anyone know what caused the problem yet?

A pain in the hole that it happened on a Saturday - it is when I watch my favourite shows.

    Waaaa!!!
