If you just want you're own device to work and not the whole house, just change the settings on your device. If it's a windows laptop/computer running windows 10, click on the start button in the left hand corner, click on the settings icon (the little cog wheel), click on 'network and internet' from the list of options, click on 'status' in the left hand corner, then on the right side of the screen click on 'change adapter options.' A new box will open, if you're using wifi, 'right click on the wifi,' if your using a wired connection 'right click on ethernet,' click on 'properties' at the end of the list, click on (TCP/IPv4) and when highlighted then click on 'properties.' A new box will open up. On the top box, obtain ip address automatically should be  checked. In the bottom box, click on 'use the following dns.'
In the 'preferred dns' put in 8.8.8.8
In the alternate dns, put in 8.8.8.4
Just click on OK and close all the boxes down and then open the internet and you should be good to go.

Eir are a useless pack of you know whats and really should have put instructions up on how to get back online.

All the best

P.S

You can do with will all devices separately or as above you can do it on the router itself.

On Windows 10 and followed your instruction to right click on wireless then properties but I don't get a box saying obtain ip automatically. I just get one giving me the wireless type and asking me to configure or install and uninstall different drivers etc.
Any suggestions?

I notice my browsing is a lot slower after changing dns.

Is there a way to revert to the old one?

Thanks
Try the Cloudflare server 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 It's the quickest of the free DNS servers according to testers. For me it's defo quicker than Google's(And Eir's). Well quicker than Eir today and every other time their DNS server craps out.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

Well that was fun.. On holiday abroad and our mobile data stopped working despite being on another network. No access to WiFi so wasn't sure what was happening.until I managed to access Rte News where I read them blaming DNS. Made perfect sense as WhatsApp and Revolut were working (Rte news must have had a cached DNS entry) . Lot of fun then trying to scan for an open WiFi connection to download DNS Changer which allows Android phones to switch DNS provider for mobile data. Impressed I managed to resolve it with little to go on.

Have eir commented on this at all or given any indication as to when service will resume?

when you right click, and click on properties, a box will open called wi-fi properties, you will see a button 'configure' on the right side of the box, 'don't click on configure'!!! You will see a list of stuff underneath. You want to click on 'internet version protocol 4 (TCP/IPv4). when you click on it, it will turn blue. Then underneath the list of stuff you will see 3 boxes called 'install, uninstall and properties) it's there you need to click on properties. And follow on from there.

Anyone care to help please?[/
Works fine on f2000 modem!
I've tried a few times

Must be doing something wrong!
Make sure you save those changes and then reboot your modem.
I know what I was doing wrong.

I was making changes in VDSL-WAN 1

I tried making them in GE WAN1 and it works perfectly now.

OK, I'm going to try to post the idiots guide to changing your DNS to google for F2000 modems
first open a new tab and enter http://192.168.1.254/ into the address bar
username is admin and password will be your wifi password as printed on the back of the modem
From the top of the page click Internet
In internet settings go to the bottom of VDSL WAN-1
just after IPv6 address prefix list you'll see two buttons, Delete and Edit.
Press Edit
Scroll down until you see an unticked box called Static DNS
Tick the box
8 more boxes should appear called IPv4 Primary DNS Server and secondary DNS Server.
In each of the boxes for the Primary server replace all the numbers with a single 8
then in the secondary server replace the first two boxes with 8 and the last two boxes with 4
It should look something like this.
IPv4 primary DNS server: [8].[8].[8].[8]
IPv4 secondary DNS server: [8].[8].[4].[4]
Click Save a few lines down.
After about a minute. Internet should be restored. There should not be a need to restart your modem.
Hope this helps someone.
I owe ye a pint biglad! Thanks

This 'change DNS' trick, does it work for data connections?

Wife's phone is down, no 4g or even H.

This is the second time this has happened lately. Spent most of the day totally down and was finally able to find the instructions to change DNS.

Thank you boards.ie community for yet another immeasurably useful piece of information.

@Eir - just wow. Pathetic response across the board.
By the way, I still don't have the unlock code I requested six weeks ago, and the phone option seems to permanently reply "customer care is closed". It's almost like you want to churn all of your customers back to competent providers the competition.

Yes it works but you may need an app to do it.

Thank you so much Flazio and Wibbs.
Up and running again here.

Utterly disgusted by the contempt to their customers shown by eir.

Is Eir aware of this and are they going to fix it.

Just changed dns settings on my F2000 and so far so good.

Why did this information not come from eir but instead some clever/friendly users?

I changed the dns earlier on mac to the Google one. Worked perfect for few hours
Later changed the router to the same and it worked fine. But not for long and now no device working at all?

Any ideas or other things to try?
Thank you

I presume Eir want customers using their dns and even though it's very simple to change dns I doubt their customer support staff are trained to instruct people on how to do it. Eir should probably run a backup dns in a different location as this issue is fairly common with them.

BTW if anyone has a raspberry pi on their home network checkout pi hole

Just to clarify a point. Where you change DNS settings in the eir router will depend on what service you have.

If you have FTTC/VDSL/connection through your phone line it needs to be in VDSL WAN-1

If you have the newer FTTH where they brought a new cable into your home it needs to be in GE WAN-1

Some people on slower sub 24Mb speeds may need to change DNS in ADSL PVC-1.

And now Netflix won't work... It was working earlier before I changed anything! Help 😭

Eta... Changed the router back to original settings and Netflix works OK
The mac also working now too with the settings changed on it but if I log into router and change it neither of them work

Same here Cork City. There was a lot of tweets about this. I've changed the DNS on my devices and it works, but can't change them on the router as the page doesn't load.

I hope an Eir representative contacts me, I need to change the router as it won't load the settings anymore :(

I might be wrong but router reset should revert it back to the original settings.

Once again boards to rescue. Eir are chronic when it comes to customer service.
Will I need to undo what I’ve done when issue is resolved?

Cheers for this, much appreciated by the wife who I had to text on the details to as I'm working.
