i followed the steps for the f2000 modem but didn't work for me, no big deal il wait patiently for it to come back!
were the 8 boxes all meant to be blank do before i entered the digits, as mine were? I unchecked the static dns option again and saved it, when problem is resolved should router be ok to connect?? Thanks guys

Does anyone have a fix for mobile data? No apps working since about 3pm and the only website I can access is Wikipedia.

Really poor customer service from Eir - it took about 5 hours for them to even acknowledge there was an issue via social media, despite hundred of tweets. Surely they were aware that their website and phoneline were both down too...

Another thanks for those suggesting the DNS change - got me back online also. Using the F1000 modem here, went to Network Settings - Broadband and edited the VDSL entry - set DNS to static and entered Google's values and clicked Apply. Didn't need to reboot.

    Thanks a mil chaps!

The DNS advice has been brilliant and got loads of folks back online. Personally I'd rather use cloudflare's free DNS server. It's noticeably quicker and it's not Google, so more secure and no tracking. Their settings are 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1. Follow the very thorough instructions earlier on the thread to swap them out.

The response from Eir has been more than a little sluggish. I've had similar with them in the past mind you.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

I dunno what platform you're on, but on the Apple one it's pretty straightforward and entails doing what you would do with a desktop/router. Go into Settings -> under DNS -. configure DNS -> switch to Manual, delete any existing servers then Add Server and type in 8.8.8.8 Add Server again and type in 8.8.4.4 (Free Google servers)Wait a minute or two and you should be back online. I'd imagine it's very similar on Android?

It's not possible to change the DNS settings for a mobile data connection through the iOS user interface, only for WiFi. There are apps that will let you do it though.

Sorry, I should have said. Android. From googling, it looks like you can only do it for Wifi networks and not data. :(

OK, I'm going to try to post the idiots guide to changing your DNS to google for F2000 modems
first open a new tab and enter http://192.168.1.254/ into the address bar
username is admin and password will be your wifi password as printed on the back of the modem
From the top of the page click Internet
In internet settings go to the bottom of VDSL WAN-1
just after IPv6 address prefix list you'll see two buttons, Delete and Edit.
    Press Edit
Scroll down until you see an unticked box called Static DNS
    Tick the box
8 more boxes should appear called IPv4 Primary DNS Server and secondary DNS Server.
In each of the boxes for the Primary server replace all the numbers with a single 8
then in the secondary server replace the first two boxes with 8 and the last two boxes with 4
It should look something like this.
    IPv4 primary DNS server: [8].[8].[8].[8]
    IPv4 secondary DNS server: [8].[8].[4].[4]
Click Save a few lines down.
After about a minute. Internet should be restored. There should not be a need to restart your modem.
    Hope this helps someone.

Thanks worked for me, haven’t a clue what I did but it works.
Does this need to be changed back??

Out here in Mayo also, kinda glad I'm switching next week. Recent service from Eir has been appalling. I spect over 40 mins on 1901 yesterday - that includes about 22 mins waiting for an answer and another 18 mins on hold mid way through my call.

I called 1901 on another issue a number of of times recently and with staff whose first language is not English it proved to be a VERY frustrating thing. 'One thing I will do...' he kept saying. He kept going round in circles. Not listening. Not really comprehending. Are other companies the same?

I notice my browsing is a lot slower after changing dns.

Is there a way to revert to the old one?

    Thanks

Thanks for that, worked a treat. The only problem is though that my speeds are now terrible (were 50-60, now less than 10) and my ping has increased from 9 to 26. So, hopefully, they will get it sorted soon as I will have to change the settings back.

For what it's worth M, I had DNS issues with Eircom more than once a couple of years ago, similar deal to today and similar crap "service" from the staff I contacted. I switched to another server(can't recall which now), then went to the Google one(and I try to avoid Google like the plague) and when I saw Cloudflare had started one earlier this year I jumped to theirs. No problems on all three servers. I didn't know about this outage today until a mate of mine rang wondering what I knew of it cos his kids were crawling the walls. :)

I've tried changing to cloudflare & google dns details, but neither worked.

Do I need to change details on router & device or just router or just device?

you'll probably have restart the device but that might not pick up the new settings

If you know how to get a command prompt the IPconfig /release then press enter
Then type IPconfig /renew. The press enter

That should relax your dynamic IP address and associated settings

Provided you are using the normal/default setup (router acting as DHCP server) you just need to change details on router. All your devices use the router as their DNS server, they send DNS requests to router, router sends them to configured DNS server.

As I mentioned, some F2000s don't seem to hold the setting. They just revert to Eirs DNS servers immediately.

In this case you need to configure each device to use an alternative DNS separately.

If you just want you're own device to work and not the whole house, just change the settings on your device. If it's a windows laptop/computer running windows 10, click on the start button in the left hand corner, click on the settings icon (the little cog wheel), click on 'network and internet' from the list of options, click on 'status' in the left hand corner, then on the right side of the screen click on 'change adapter options.' A new box will open, if you're using wifi, 'right click on the wifi,' if your using a wired connection 'right click on ethernet,' click on 'properties' at the end of the list, click on (TCP/IPv4) and when highlighted then click on 'properties.' A new box will open up. On the top box, obtain ip address automatically should be  checked. In the bottom box, click on 'use the following dns.'
In the 'preferred dns' put in 8.8.8.8
In the alternate dns, put in 8.8.8.4
Just click on OK and close all the boxes down and then open the internet and you should be good to go.

Eir are a useless pack of you know whats and really should have put instructions up on how to get back online.

    All the best

    P.S

You can do with will all devices separately or as above you can do it on the router itself.

Make sure you save those changes and then reboot your modem.

Horrific that Eir do not have reps on here and on Twitter commenting.

Looks like the Eir 'Care' staff went home at 5 PM this evening based on their Twitter posts.

Once again awful awful customer 'care' by Eir.

Same here Cork City. There was a lot of tweets about this. I've changed the DNS on my devices and it works, but can't change them on the router as the page doesn't load.

I hope an Eir representative contacts me, I need to change the router as it won't load the settings anymore :(

Figured out why the DNS wasn't working for me. We've no DSL coming into the house. Tried the usual steps bringing it back. No joy. Issue must be more serious in some spots then others
