Cafe Owner Tells Customer to Drop Dead!

    Did anyone hear this on Liveline?


    A woman called in to complain about the price increase in a stir fry that was dressed up as a vat rate change, and it went downhill from there!

    If not, you should listen back to the Podcast.

    More 'customer service' establishments need to start being a bit more frank with people. It might result in there being less wagons.

    Ya, heard it. The customer questioned owner about €2rise in meal. He (the owner) told her it was because of VAT rise, according to customer.

    Now I don't know who's telling the truth but I have an opinion after hearing the discussion. The owner sounded like an ignorant, mean chancer. The lady's point was "the VAT rate rises on Jan 1st.

    More 'customer service' establishments need to start being a bit more frank with people. It might result in there being less wagons.

    I thoroughly enjoyed it. It boggles my mind to think of how many times I've felt like doing this and have had to bite my lip.

    Best radio in a long time.

    I wonder will it be played back on Sat. morning.

    The business man generally is set up as a bad person, just by appearing on the program. This man was aware of that and while I might disagree with his customer skills, he took no prisinors.

    Joe called him and he called Joe.

    Anyone know if the woman got her two euro back?

    I manage to avoid Joe Duffy almost completely but oh played it to me this morning. It was complete drivel and I actually gave up before the interesting stuff. What donkey calls national radio to complain about 2 Euro price increase in a small town cafe?

    The Facebook whingey brigade are putting negative reviews on his page despite not having eaten there.

    Underneath their whinging he just replies each time....drop dead.

    He's really ripping the p out if them.

    I though the customer came across poorly. She was passive aggressive going on liveline in the first place trying to point score and he'd just had enough.

    ....Two unconnected individuals rang in to try and attack the cafe owner and got more than they bargained for.

    I was very amused that the owner did not back down but went for them bullheaded and took no prisoners. As the son of a former ( and now dead ) small business owner who had no choice but to take s**t from snotty busybodies and self righteous rule-bound and obnoxious creatures like these I was delighted to see the lion bite back for a change. The world is too full of toadying cowards who have too long taken nonsense from unqualified and improvident dullards who would have trouble making money and a job on their own and depend on government and privilege to keep afloat in these demanding and competitive times.

    It was great to see the negative backbiters get their just desserts for a change.

    Sounded like a set up to me. Know the cafe, nice food at a reasonable price. The owner is also known as Texas Tom due to owning a dept store in the town with the name Texas ( he had another in Athlone with same name, recession killed them) he was always good at self promotion.
    Enjoyable listen even if it was an extended advertisement.

    I worked for two sets of managers.

    One set were blunt, demanding and had little or no finesse or filters. If you did a good job you got a brief word of thanks and things moved on. Bad work was instantly criticised and everything was watched closely.

    The other set tried to be everyones friend, they were diplomatic to a fault, people in delicate and difficult situations were let away with murder to avoid accusations of discrimination, violations of health and safety etc. The real colours would come through when reviews were conducted and the results I would get from these two faced "professional and PR conscious managers was often worse than the reviews I would get from the blunt speaking hard cases I had to work for.

    Worse still was the way that vocal and dominating employees would get better reviews by threatening HR or outside legal action on these weak managers than the reviews and appraisals handed out to meeker and more easily intimidated staff.

    I would prefer to work for a blunt and straightforward manager any day over the present breed of two-faced smiling but backbiting vipers that inhabit many management roles in todays workplace.

    The very worst of society summed up there. Absolute scuzzbuckets. Sheep. The FB crowd are unreal. Any time there's a ''sighting'' of a white van (it's always a white van) attempting to abduct a child it's nearly always a poorly constructed post by a full-time mammy type with zero else happening. They're the lowest common denominator and the exact sort that would go after a business in the comments just because they've fcuk all else to do while they're waiting for their Candy Crush lives to reset.

    Jesus that woman was a wagon. So what if you were told it was a vat increase, so f*cking What?? He can put his prices up if he wants and doesn't have to tell you why. I deal with customers like this weapon every damn day and I have to smile and be polite. Well done to Tom, he should have told her he rubbed his balls in her stir fry and hung up.
