could be a loose connection, open box and reseat the connections, ie undo them and plug back in.

    Did that, no joy.
Nothing looks wrong insde the box.
When I reboot, the hard drive re appears in the system, if I try to record something it says “ error hard drive full” then I get a freeze with a blue circle for a minute or two then a crash.
The hard drive is not full by the way.

If I try any of the hard drive options to try and fix it, like file system check etc. it crashes.

Could it be full? Could you have saved a time shift? Could it be a hidden folder? Initialise it in settings which will format it. WOS will ask you to do this anyway if you contact them

Hard drive wont initialize , just get the message in the screen grab ,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,455 ✭✭✭andy1249

Continuing with the Hard Drive issue , and it seems that "is" what it was ,

I had an unused HTPC sitting around , there was a 1TB WD blue drive in it.
Salvaged that from the HTPC and replaced the HGST ( Hitachi ) drive that WOS shipped in the box.

Drive initialised fine , and it looks like we are back in business , I'll hold off calling it a success until its recorded a few things.

One thing I will say ,
Since I got it the box has been running hot , almost too hot to touch.
I had tried to initialise a few times this morning giving the box a few last tries to see if it was something else other than the hard drive , so it was running for a while and at the temperature that I thought was normal.

I'd disconnected everything and took the lid off , and touched the hard drive to take it out , and ended jumping around the sitting room swearing for about 5 minutes.
Burnt my bloody fingers on it.
Ran it under the tap for a while , I'm gonna have a nice little blister there.

Anyways , got the WD Blue in and all seems fine , but more importantly , the box runs cool , nothing like as warm as it was before.
So I'm thinking that drive was on its way out since day one.

Now all that remains is to get WOS to replace just the drive without me having to send the whole thing back.

WoS have gotten a lot of sales from this forum in recent months. Something you could remind them of IF they give you any grief.

I'm another high horse "user" and all is good except for the fact on soarview I can't get rte 1, be3. I'm in cork and under autobouquets maker / providers set saorview area to spur Hill and did a scan. It's picked up the other saorview channels but not the above, I am picking up rte1 on the TV via the loop thru cable. Any ideas?

Are the channels in all channels or when you filter by terrestrial? Did you try a manual scan for terrestrial channels set to spur hill? Autobouquetsmaker just makes bouquets, it doesn't care if you have or have not got the frequency.

All the saorview channels appear in saorview all channels (if that's what you mean) with correct epg. When I set location to spur Hill in autobouquets maker I did a scan under that menu.

I've no idea why that is happening, maybe you should add the channels into the bouquet manually, then stop autobouquetsmaker updating Saorview. There's no new channel coming for the time being anyway

I picked up one of these today on HHB's advice. I got it from satworld on the Naas Road and he flashed it for me then and there with OpenATV 6.0.0.

I got home this afternoon, connected up dish and antanna, HDMI and ethernet. Everything working fine. I then set about getting it to work with PlexDVR. It was easier than I thought. Ther eis a good tutorial here: https://us.v-cdn.net/6025034/uploads/editor/et/9d4acbdu6kug.pdf

The hardest thing was to match the channel names against the Plex EPG. Once I realised thta the channel numbers were the same it was easy. It's now up and running as IPTV in less than an hour, and I don't have to worry about running sat cables all over the house (as I previousy ran Cat6!)

The box will run headless in my office and the bonus is that Plex can stream to my phone outside the house.

How quick are the channel changes for you on plex devices? And have you found any plex epg that will cover all saorview and freesat channels?

Is their a way on the box to move a group of channels in one go instead of one at a time?

It takes a few seconds to initialise when you put on live TV. Chanel changes are pretty quick once it’s up and running. I haven’t setup Saorview yet, but I think there is an EPG for it.

That sorted it thank you so much for the help

I see WOS is calling the Tiviar Alpha Plus as a "new arrival". Is it the same box / hardware as the original release in 2013?

Yes, but don't let that hold you back. It was 400 quid when first released and is still a very fast box by today's standards

Thanks High horse, its the amount of tweaking & customizing that I find daunting. Though the fact that I'm here says I'm interested ! A dedicated PIP on the remote.....

It's the same for any Enigma box, even the better more expensive modern ones with 4k. If you want plug and play you'll need to be getting a Freesat box with no Saorview

I've been trying to setup a Tiviar Alpha Plus Combo STB over the past couple of days and had it working pretty well with my stations added to Favourites etc.
However today 'Favourites' no longer appears in my bouquets and seems to be the only folder missing.
I presume problem arose due to a wrong refresh setting by me but don't honestly know.

Can anyone tell me how to add a favourites 'folder' to bouquet list as I can't find anyway and am totally lost on this.

    Thanks

It could be there and hidden by Autobouquetmaker so that's the first place I'd look

If I just want a easy to use Freesat/saorview would the Ariva 153 do or should I go all out and get this box? This looks a bit more complicated to get setup etc for a non tech savvy person?

I was a total newbie till last april. After a few late nights and some great advice on here I have it working like a dream. The whole family are using it now without any problems. You can get a 1TB HDD on amazon for less than 50 quid. 2 TB for not much more.

Thing is I don't know if I gave a few nights to get it set up! Nobody sells already set up no?

Is it possible to have all the SAroview TV Inposition 1-9 and then ( not radio) and all freeview (without the empty one s or duplicates) in one "bouquet" ? So that the boss... can see it all at once.. ?

Telitext does not seem to work... should it/.?

Playing media ( movie) Pause not work, it jumps back to the beginining.

Otherwise, thanks to all the help here... going great..! --> Appreciated

Not possible as it needs to be scanned for your Saorview region. My backup image takes away most of the hard work. Surely you have some tech savvy relative or neighbour you could pay for a few hours of their time

Yes you can create a "favourites" bouquet with any mix of Saorview and satellite in any order you fancy.

Old fashioned teletext is more or less obsolete, replaced by a system called MHEG5. Enigma boxes don't support this because of licensing issues (I think) which is also why "Red Button" features don't work. It's the only real weakness in enigma boxes, but most people can live without.
NB some channels still carry teletext purely for 888 subtitles.

I think I'll give it a go myself, I'll try find the time. Most satellite installers install the Ariva 153 combo box, what are the most noticeable differences between that and this? I read a lot of pages of the thread last night and I think someone mentioned it has a 7 day EPG for the Freesat and series link? Can I record an Irish station and watch an Irish station?

I'll need to get someone out to install the satellite separately and then set this box up, would that be a problem for the satellite installer as they won't have a plug and play box to confirm the newly installed satellite works?

If you’re unsure of that you’re doing, the Ariva boxes are pretty good. My elderly mother has one and she used to struggle with the Virgin Media box. Not with this. It’s pretty straightforward.

Sat installer will not need a box to align it as hell have a meter.

Hey folks, I'm new to all this and ended up buying the box thinking the old satellite cables in the building were still working but it seems they are not as there is no signal, so can't get any stations that way.

I'm trying to figure out how to get IPTV going, I have the IPTV Player on the box itself (p.s: I'm using the high horse backup he has posted thanks for that).

I know how to set up FTP and can assess the box from my PC already. My question is regarding the IPTV Subscription and EPG.

    As I understand it :
1: I need to buy a subscription for IPTV
2: They send me some M3u file which I must save from my PC into the Tiviar box.
3: I then need to set up an EPG to actually show the stations on this file?

Or am I way off - this stuff is completely new?
