Do they do just an ordinary jam donot like you get in the supermarket.

No idea but tried a glazed one and it was muck pure sugar and not in an enjoyable way , sickly sweet ,

I'd rather something with decent dough and good filling ,

They have these fancy ones in Super Value at the moment- it's 3.50 or something for one. I bought one once to try it out - was nice but definitely not worth that price. I can't see this fad lasting too long.

It’s like those gelato places , I got a milkshake in one of them was nearly a fiver and a McDonald’s one is way nicer and half the price. Never again.

Gee golly, I wish I had me a pickup truck because then I'd know how awesome it would feel to be one of the first to roll up and buy the cool new hip American brand names and pretend I was just like the people on my favourite American TV shows.

Remember, this is the indo. The most hysterical sensationalist rag out there.

My guess is 2 or 3 people have an issue. Indo then creates headline hysteria and makes up a load of sh1te to match.

BTW, someone should tell them Krispy Kreme is a USA company, not a UK company - indo interns can't even check that out!

Imagine queuing ages in a car just for a dopamine based sugar rush.

It's fine for stone age man discovering some wild berries as a natural reward effect,
but terrible idea for the 2nd most fattest nation of Europe, to be consuming junk.

Anyone who regularly pays that for doughnuts is a dumbass. Dunnes have a selection of different kinds of lovely fresh ones for €1-1.50, the hazelnut Chocolate one is one of the nicest ones I've ever had

Much as it is annoying I am quite sure that such behaviour is not only in Ireland

    +1.

I read elsewhere that it happened in Canada also... No idea if that is true or not.

But I am quite sure that it is not behaviour that is unique to Ireland, as that other poster asserts.
Off to the Trivially Annoying thread to post that I despise posts like 'only in Ireland'...

Back on topic - publicity stunt by the business, maybe?

I very much doubt if I went any night this week near the centre would their be a bit of noise apart from the usual

I think the lack of empathy in posts like this is amazing. Sure the problem may die down but if nothing is said then there would be no pressure on the people making profiting from this behavior to show any sot of social consciousness. If we want reasonable society then it is the responsibility of both individuals and corporations.

What a bunch of f*cking idiots.

It's worse when you see what they're actually queuing up for:
A homemade doughnut recipe may call for 8-10 ingredients consisting of flour, sugar, eggs, butter, yeast, oil, salt, milk/water, and few others depending on variations and flavors.

    This is the ingredient list of a plain sugar glazed Krispy Kreme doughnut;

    KRISPY KREME ORIGINAL GLAZED DOUGHNUT

Serving size 1 doughnut (52 grams)

Ingredients: Enriched bleached wheat flour- (contains bleached wheat flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamine, mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), dextrose, vegetable shortening (partially hydrogenated soybean and/or cottonseed oil), water, sugar, soy flour, egg yolks, vital wheat gluten, yeast, nonfat milk, yeast nutrients (calcium sulfate, ammonium sulfate), dough conditioners (calcium dioxide, monocalcium and dicalcium phosphate, diammonium phosphate, sodium stearoyl-2-lacrylate, whey, starch, ascorbic acid, sodium bicarbonate, calcium carbonate), salt, mono-and-diglycerides, ethoxylated mono- and diglycerides, lecithin, calcium propionate (to retain freshness), cellulose gum, natural and artificial flavors, fungal alpha amylase, amylase, maltogenic amylase, pantosenase, protease, sodium caseinate, corn maltodextrin, corn syrup solids and BHT (to help protect flavor).
Glaze also may contain: Calcium carbonate, agar, locust bean gum, disodium phosphate, and sorbitan monostearate.

Enriched bleached wheat flour – white flour. The bran and the germ portion of the whole wheat, rich in vitamins and minerals, are refined out. Bleaching is usually done with chlorine which destroys more of the vitamins and must be added back artificially. To compensate for refining out around 20 nutrients, 4 synthetic nutrients are added, niacin (vitamin B3), reduced iron, thiamine mononitrate (synthetic vitamin B1), and riboflavin (vitamin B2). Can lead to nutritional imbalances,

    bleached wheat flour,
Niacin – a B vitamin made from water, air and petroleum,
reduced iron Generally recognised as safe,
thiamine – a B vitamin, made from coal tar,
    mononitrate,
riboflavin – a B vitamin commonly made from candida yeasts or other bacteria,
folic acid – vitamin made from petroleum (mostly from china),
dextrose– Carrier, Disintegrating Agent, Dispersing Agent, Formulation Aid, Humectant, Moisture-Retaining Agent, Nutritive Sweetener, Tableting Aid, Texture-Modifying Agent, Texturizer

vegetable shortening (partially hydrogenated soybean and/or cottonseed oil) associated with heart disease, breast and colon cancer, atherosclerosis and elevated cholesterol, and obesity. Trans fat is known to increase the “bad” cholesterol (LDL) and decrease the “good” cholesterol (HDL). It can clog your arteries and cause Type 2 Diabetes, as well as other serious health problems. They disrupt nerve cell intercommunication – associated with ADHD and ADHD like symptoms. May contain undeclared synthetic antioxidants (310-312, 319-321), most likely BHA 320 or TBHQ 319, which affect children’s health, behavior and learning.

    water,

sugar – mostly from sugar beets. Refined sugars can promote obesity, tooth decay, and heart disease,

    soy flour,

    egg yolks,

    vital wheat gluten,

    yeast,

    nonfat milk,

    yeast nutrients

calcium sulfate – Dietary Supplement, Dough Conditioner, Firming Agent, Nutrient, Sequestrant, Yeast Food,
ammonium sulfate – may cause mouth ulcers, nausea, kidney and liver problems,
    dough conditioners

calcium dioxide – irritating to the skin,
monocalcium and dicalcium phosphate – skin and eye irritant,
diammonium phosphate – also used as a fertilizer, fire retardant, used in animal feed as a source of non-protein nitrogen and phosphorous,
sodium stearoyl-2-lacrylate – emulsifier, plasticizer, surfactant,
    whey,
    starch,
ascorbic acid – Antioxidant, Dietary Supplement, Nutrient, Preservative
sodium bicarbonate – Alkali, Leavening Agent
calcium carbonate – in general can cause mineral deficiencies,
    salt,

mono-and-diglycerides – Emulsifier, Foaming Agent, Stabilizer, Suspending Agent, Whipping Agent,

ethoxylated mono- and diglycerides – dough conditioners used to increase volume, emulsifier – may be soy, corn, peanut or fat based. They may cause genetic changes, cancer, birth defects, and allergic reactions,

    lecithin – emulsifier,

calcium propionate – (to retain freshness) mold inhibitor,

cellulose gum – made from cotton byproducts, used as a stabilizer shown to cause cancer in animals,

natural and artificial flavors – A single natural or artificial flavor can contain many ingredients; for example the artificial “strawberry” flavor contains 49 ingredients or chemical compounds. Companies keep the identity of artificial (and natural) flavorings secret. Flavorings may include substances to which some people are sensitive, such as MSG or HVP, another way to avoid declaring them on the label – associated with allergies, asthma, hyperactivity, possible carcinogen, allergic or behavioral reactions,

fungal alpha amylase – enzyme secreted by many fungi,

amylase – enzymes from various fungi used as antibacterial additives, imparts flavor, causes the bread to rise. Workers in factories that work with amylase are at increased risk of occupational asthma,

maltogenic amylase – an enzyme preparation produced by recombinant DNA techniques,

    pantosenase – information not found,

    protease enzymes,

sodium caseinate – casein texturizer, chemically produced milk powder,

corn maltodextrin – starch used as a texturizer and flavor enhancer. Produced by the chemical or enzyme breakdown of corn starch,

corn syrup solids – produced by the chemical or enzyme breakdown of corn starch, corn sugar may cause allergic reactions,

BHT – (to help protect flavor) retards rancidity in oils, can cause liver and kidney damage, allergic reactions, hyperactivity and behavioral problems, infertility, weakened immune system, birth defects, cancer; should be avoided by infants, young children, pregnant women and those sensitive to aspirin, may be toxic to the nervous system, (BHT – banned in England),

    Glaze also may contain:

Calcium carbonate – chalk, used as an emulsifier, may cause constipation, occurs naturally in limestone,

agar– stabilizer and thickener obtained from various seaweed,

locust bean gum – a thickener and stabilizer in cosmetics and food extracted from the seeds of the carob tree,

disodium Phosphate – used commercially as an anti-caking additive in powdered products. May cause mild irritation to the skin and mucus membranes,

and sorbitan monostearate – referred to as a synthetic wax, emulsifier, defoamer, and flavor dispersing additive.

It's the same as the bread during the snow thing. It's a fad that a pile of idiots are jumping in on and thinking it's a deadly laugh because they're completely bored.

I see they're closing the 24 hour drive-through. They'll probably reopen it again in six months time when the morons have moved onto something else.

    Only heard about this today.

Just for clarity. What those spanners are queing for is donuts from a donut shop? That can be bought anywhere that sells donuts?

    Adjectives fail me...

You should stand outside restaurants and tell people to stop waiting for a table, there's a McDonald's down the road and they could be fed there in 5 minutes.

Not at all. Non-idiots would make a reservation at a restaurant.

Could well be something along the lines of this mass social hysteria, but more along the lines of expectation for 'Mass Euphoria'.

Perhaps sugar-rush attracting pheromones were inadvertently relased by the first dozen of ill-fitting tracksuit yoofs, which caused the mass gathering of their peers.

All this, for a few sticky buns of nutritionally void junk food.

It's hard to know whether it's a deep dislike or a deep pity that I feel for those people when I see that.

They must have nothing else in their lives.

People are queing. In their cars. For half an hour. In the middle of the night. For a fecking doughnut?!

Don't they have jobs to go to?

    Wait..

Great to see the recession is over.

A Garda drugs checkpoint at the entrance would stop this dead in their tracks.

Who knew donuts would cause such a sensation? What is the attraction with these, do they have heroin in them or something?

This shows you the brain power of the people in a queue.....they sat for 1 hour not moving while if they looked over to their right for a lot of them at the top of the queue they would see a huge carpark completely empty.....but they still sat for an hour

I used to live quite close the the B&Q store at the back of Liffey Valley - had to drive past it on the way home from work.

I remember the day it opened, the queues in the vicinity were crazy. Cars backed up on all the approach roads, gridlock basically. I thought they must be having some opening-day discounts or something, but no, thousands of people had just decided that they simply had to go up and see this marvel of a hardware store in the hours after it opened.

It was then I realised that a large proportion of Irish people are incredibly stupid.

Any shop is the same, I live close to a new Avoca, now there is another 2-3 Avoca within 30-40 mins of my house. They opened up the new one.....it was mental for a few days.....people literally just drove up and left car in middle of road because parking was full....Garda had to come out because people blocked in houses.....

Anyway after it calmed down I went in to see....exact same as every other Avoca in Ireland....shower of f**king idiots
