Spotify has begun to use GPS to validate address details to ensure that people are living at the same address.

So if you get a validation mail or join a family make sure not to allow GPS in the app and use manual address validation.

As long as GPS is not mandatory it should work.

Spotify has begun to use GPS, that does not mean they have rolled it out fully.

They started in some countries as of yesterday afternoon to ask for validation via GPS when you sign up/join a family or when they send you an e-mail as they suspect you are not a family.

In Ireland, they will start using Eircode or GPS shortly, in Germany they are now using primary GPS and Postleitzahl (Eircode similar) secondary.

You also should see new T&C coming out soon which includes a change as to the usage or precise mobile positioning.

I got a mail from them asking me to verify my address for a family I joined with back in April. 7 days to verify or I'd be put back on a free account.

Thought they were cracking down but they seemed happy with just the postal district.

I pointed out the move to GPS earlier.

According to the latest the GPS validation is however not done in APP but via the browser that opens once you click on the link.

So it should be possible to work around that, at present it also lets you still enter a post code.

So best to ask for the GPS co-ordinates of the family home.
