She has been posting on Facebook about voting for Gemma O'Doherty so I presume she must be.

I guess she'll vote for SF in the next GE now that her and Mary Lou are best mates. I wonder has she put two-and-two together and worked out that "the council :mad::mad:" who she detests so much is made up of Sinn Fein councillors who hold twice as many seats as any other party.

    Especially in SDCC

If she's Mary Lou's bestest buddy, then I wonder why isn't she voting for Mia Ní Bleedah! Although maybe she thinks that Gemma is more of a Shinner than Mia is!

I find it difficult to understand why Sinn Fein are trying to sack the mastermind behind this impressive bit of planning!

The Times yesterday carried an article about one of those plans. The RL scheme it was mooted to deliver 3500 houses into the system since it's launch in 2017. It managed 9 in 2017 and 6 year to date. It was relaunched again early this year by Minister Murphy as part of his "rolling up his sleeves means business approach".

there wont be more homes build as it would cause overpriced market to crash, too many politicians, govt and council people would have their 'gray-zone type' income slashed

Am I the only one getting tired of hearing this type of conspiracy theory rubbish? How many current TD's are landlords? The info is there and freely available so why don't you back your claim with some actual facts and evidence? And rent on a property doesn't exactly amount to a gravy train or even a gravy boat when 50% of the rental income is taken in tax before any mortgage is paid on it.

In fact if they were as clever as you give them credit for they'd be selling those properties right now when prices are reaching their peak, pumping as much government funding into new houses so that property prices crash and they can then buy them back on the cheap in a couple of years.

One thing I would do would be I'd make the conditions for refusing a house a lot stricter.
I'd also publish a list of people who refuse house and include their reason for refusal.

So because they are a council housing list in your opinion they should have no right to data protection.

Very good idea. It would however involve the media actually practicing journalism.

I read it as "if they refuse adequate council housing offered by the council they should have no right to data protection"

Probably a bit harsh alright, but not your interpretation at all.

Full of roadblocks, yet very empty when it comes to solutions.

Just make it extremely hard for people to refuse offers of accommodation

In England if you're homeless or in temporary accommodation it's best not to refuse an offer of a council home.

If you turn down an offer of housing your council thinks is suitable, they could refuse to find you another home.

I think people should get 1 refusal every 5 years if the council think the property is suitable

After that if you don't want the second property tough luck find your own accomodation

I'd go further and include a registry for people who have been evicted from social housing for anti-social behaviour and non payment of rent. We'll see how quick the tenants are then to destroy the properties the rest of us work to provide them with.

What has housing need got to do the removal of data protection?

If they’re offered a house and they refuse to take it, it should be public record. If they want the privacy and luxury of picking and choosing houses, they can do what everyone else does, and put their hand in their pocket.

It's pretty simple really, if you need a house, you won't refuse it and won't have your name published. Therefore, no data protection to worry about!

I'm sure that there can be an opt in that by going on the list that you are consenting for any home refusals to be published in a report and the reason given will be published as well

So accept the offer no matter what or your name will be published. Orwellian.

If I was homeless I’d assume I’d take a house anywhere over sleeping on the street

Only when they refuse a house. The public and tax payer should be made aware of why the council houses aren't up to standard.
It's no secret when somebody is living in a council house!

Well what reasonable excuse has someone who is claiming to be homeless or in need of housing realistically got for turning down a property? Thats half the problem at the minute. It's not a 'housing crisis' it's an 'I want a specific house, in a specific area crisis!'

I remember this story from many years ago which would still make my blood boil

Some people are so choosy they can reject houses that were worth up €400k

Applicants reject €400k houses as ‘unsuitable’

I'm aware of a person who refused a council house based on the fact the house was in the same estate as the person who had seriously physically assualted them 5 years ago. So by your suggestion they should be named eventhough it's understandable if someone would be wary of living in close proximity to the person who assualted them.

Most people would think that's a valid reason for refusing a house

Still no reason why that information couldn't be gathered and published

Including their name?what purpose would that serve?
