It's really annoying that we're getting all these great little mini consoles but still no decent Megadrive one :(

And also Sega's baffling choice of games they put on their compilations. No matter how many times they re release Decap Attack, its not going to make it a classic.

    Hmmm...no DualShock for PSOne Mini...nope.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,195 ✭✭✭deadl0ck

A Dreamcast Mini - now that would be fantastic !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,133 ✭✭✭Doge

I'm really interested to see what hardware lies inside.

Have they gone with a real MIPS processor like they have in the Vita for compatibility with psp and ps1 games, which allowed for more accurate emulation?

It would seem like the logical step if those chips are still available in mass producible quantities.

Wouldn't be surprised if it's a Vita TV in there. The hardware should be cheap and the PS1 emulation is already great.

Would be a great way to use up surplus parts too, seeing as the pstv didn't exactly sell the way they were hoping. Great bit of kit also

I thought that'd have been out before the PS Mini tbh. I want to get a new one, that part for it not reading discs still on order? Not that I could put it in myself...

You can get clones on Ali for $70ish. Very easy install from what I see but surely we'd be able to help if its causing too much trouble

The playstation classic could be the worst thing ever made.

Sony own Legend of Dragoon and are evil enough to use it.

Only a re-release of R-Type Final could induce such a reaction from you Retr0...

Lets all be grateful the Philips hasn't jumped on the mini/classic bandwagon or our Xmas stockings could be full of little CD-i's

    Final is a PS2 game.

R-type Delta on PS1 though is delicious.

Just used compressed air to clean out a CRT. Great job but no adjustment pots in the back of the Sony :S I'll have to source a remote and get into the service menus.

That VHS played that I got last week is now suddenly showing static when I play tapes. I reckon the heads got filthy from me playing 20 year old tapes in it. Anyone know where I'd get isopropyl alcohol cleaner?

Pretty much my thoughts, very little r&d needed, parts sitting in surplus, profit.

I know, I wasn't thinking Final would be on the mini PS!
Only that had expressed such disgust with it.

Delta is a cracking title though, not quite Einhander though.

I got Delta after Final and it's so much more fun. Final had the most longwinded levels ever. The music was great though.

Are arcade cabs easy to disassemble in general does anyone know? I can't imagine too many cabs fit through a narrow door, nevermind a bigger unit with mounted guns...

Also realistically what kind of maintenance or repairs are required with CRTs, power supplies or guns?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,661 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

Modern cabs are pretty modular, so it should be easy to unbolt the control panel and get it in the door.
However, don't take my word for it, plenty on here have taken cabs apart to get them in the door!

Having a browse on eBay and came across something that I had to jump on, it's about €100-150 less than I was expecting to spend. Near complete, but as complete as I'll get judging by previous listings. It's definitely going to be the weirdest addition to my collection...

Some cabs separate into a top and bottom section like an electrocoin xenon. Id say you would have a hard time taking apart a normal cab though. Ive never had any issues getting a cab through my front door, including a Time Crisis which is way wider. There was no room to spare though on either side of it.

Is this not inevitably going to be the hardware equivalent of the Sonic Cycle?
    (I) New Sega Megadrive to be released, hooray!
(II) All new hardware, sins of the past erased! It'll be so different this time!
(III) Oh, it's got the same games list as last time....
(IV) Finally out, preorder collected, and it's the same crappy emulation as last time
    (V) goto (I)

You got the memo about AtGames getting the boot yeah? :)

I did, but I'm going to be cautious on this one.

No excuse for a lousy product when my phone can run the entire Megadrive library flawlessly.
I mean, all it would need to be is a docking station!

In house Sega development, can’t see it being worse or on par with the AtGames stuff. I think it’ll be what we’ve wanted all along, a functional, quality product. Besides, don’t try and convince me you won’t be one of the first to get one :P

Also, I think I’d actually prefer an AtGames Megadrive compared to using a phone to play those games

I've never played Future, I have it just no interest in setting up the Xbox, I'd love if they released it something current but a new game would be good too.
I hope Hideki gets involved with the music again too.
