I actually could not believe my ears listening to Jonathan Wilson this evening. He went off on multiple diet related tangents with one being ridiculous as the next. Ken pulled him on the first (Lewandowski eating his dessert before his dinner) telling him that he had told that one before but Wilson undeterred told it again. He then tried to say how he is constantly blown away by players eating the likes of KFC. Ken called him on this and asked for a specific example. Wilson then gave the frankly ridiculous example of the English cricket team, a sport which quite obviously does not have the same physical demands as football. Then finally after they had moved passed the whole diet thing he jumped in again at the mention of Rio Ferdinand " ah yes I have it now, I remember Rio saying before about how Moyes band chips." Vapidness doesn't even begin to describe it. Jesus

That wasn't Jonathon Wilson. That was Rory Smith.

Murph is doing a fine job standing in for Eoin.

No, that was Jonathan Wilson. Rory Smith was in the conversation too, but Wilson was the one with food on the brain.

Strange rabbit-hole type conversation on the football show today. Usually, I find Wilson to be one of their best contributors, but he was waffling a fair bit there.

Ken telling him that no one here gives a **** about cricket was funny.

Thought that was a good point about banning ketchup. There was a big deal made out if it in the English media but you won’t miss it unless you’re eating unhealthy food. Ken was trying to have a bit of a laugh about how teams are getting ripped off by snake oil merchants because they’re desperate for an edge. I don’t think they were aiming for a ted talks on sports nutrition.

    Get away out of that.

Pretty sure it was Rory Smith talking about Lewendowski and the ice cream? Boring conversation either way!

    Thought it was just me.

Plain crap by the end of it. For the life of me at this stage, cannot even think what the beginning was about.

    Strange Pod.

It’s strange that they’ve been so quiet on the mayo ladies football debacle, they might be afraid to touch it for the moment. Be interesting to see if they cover it today. I’d say Sinead Kissane is a certainty on the pod if they do.

Thought Ken pulling Murph up on GAA fans behaviour was brilliant. It's not said enough, GAA fans and players always given carte blanch to do what they want. As Ken called them "savages". Thought Ken played a blinder on that one you can tell he sensed blood and went for it. Fair play.

Had to laugh at the profound tone adopted by Epstein while explaining that tall lads are bigger.

Not really a lot happening on the podcast this week for my tastes. Suppose it’s just bit of a slow week in general. I know posters above praised Murf as the host and he’s not doing a bad job but Eoin really is the glue that holds the whole thing together. Surprised they didn’t cover any of the GGG vs Canelo fight, especially seeing as Gavan Casey from the 42 was on recently to talk about Tyson Fury.

It was a great fight and a controversial decision so lots to speak about, and from a journalistic point of view I thought there’d be lots to cover with regards to Canelo’s recent drug test. Ah well, can’t have it all I suppose.

Hard to cover everything in 50 minutes I guess. Personally, as an athletics fan I was delighted with the chat with Epstein about Kipchoge breaking the world marathon record in Berlin

No reason why it has to be 50 minutes and we had 15 minutes talking about ketchup this week, definitely seems to be a bit of laziness creeping in sticking to easy comfort zones with same contributors saying the same thing.

I agree. 15 extra minutes on the biggest boxing match of the year wouldn't have killed anyone.

I really doubt 15 minutes of podtime is just an extra 15 minutes of work for them. In fact, I'm as certain as one can be that it's not the case.

    I never said it was.

Anyways it looks like they cover the boxing and the mayo ladies in todays episode. Great stuff!

Excellent pod today. Was pleasantly surprised by the coverage of the ladies football - I was expecting the worst when I heard Sinead O'Carroll was in studio, but she was fair and balanced. The boxing guy (Costello) was a great guest

Mark is a natural host, they should let him do more shows.

To be honest Sinead O Carroll does try to be balanced. Plus she speaks from a position of experience having been involved in various sporting situations. She's more than prepared to see the greys in life.

That's true for her appearances on this pod, however I've heard her on The Last Word a few times discussing non-sporting topics, and she struck me as very lefty-liberal.

She writes for the journal. What do you expect?

Really impressed with the balanced discussion on the Mayo ladies GAA saga.

Sh1ts all over the echo chamber that is Off the Ball coverage and their ridiculously one sided take on the matter
