One of the many reasons I prefer to stand on bus/luas. Not to be wedged in beside some smelly fecker, fat fecker, or annoying twat who talks on the phone for the entire journey.

I once worked in a short contract job just after finishing college doing data entry (seriously soul destroying in itself) and a woman colleague had the most vile, foul stench from her person and it wasn’t BO but from her lady parts. No-one said anything at the time but people would ask to be moved from the office she worked in and another co worker used air freshener in the office all day long to try to mask the stench. The fact that the radio was on all the time churning out crap from Robbie Williams, Janet Jackson and the Lighthouse People didn’t add to the experience...

This was the late 90s - I finished up after a couple of months and got offered my first proper “career” job. I was delighted to be leaving that place.

It was a long time ago but mine used to. I got these purple tablets from the chemist (dont ask me to remember the name). Warm water melt the tablets and soak the feet. Did it daily for 2 weeks and they haven't been a problem since.

    Acid vats?

My brother showers every day....sometimes twice....but the smell of his feet would knock you out....you can smell it all through the house when he takes his shoes off.
Its obviously some sort if fungal infection but nothing he has tried has worked.
Im sure if somebody was up close and personal with him theyd get it regardless of his shoes being on

I had this a couple of years ago and tried all the over the counter athletes foot stuff (creams/sprays/powder) and nothing worked. Said it to the doctor one day and he gave me a prescription. wasn't athletes foot at all. couple of weeks later and was fixed. (I also spray the inside of all my shoes now with the Dettol spray every day)

Shower or no shower the only time I ever have BO is when I'm sick

I stopped going to a supermarket I liked because a member of staff there had the stalest, most acrid BO I've ever been unfortunate enough to smell. It lingered over most of the shop and there was no escape. I don't know how it was allowed continue because I'm sure I'm not the only one put off.

There's just no excuse for it. If I had no hot water or shower I'd still be able to clean myself thoroughly and make sure I wasn't leaving a trail of BO behind me.

Was that in Inchicore by any chance?

The absolute worst for me is the garlic-type breath that some people have in the morning. I've noticed it far worse with continental Europeans, I think it must be something they eat for breakfast, maybe some type of salami or something. I feel like puking when I'm next to or talking to someone with that stench.

I went to school with a girl who always smelled like smelly cheese. She was obese so not sure if it the smell was emitting from the cheese trapped in her rolls of fat or cheesy crotch.

I dunno. I'm not talking about Eastern Europeans, I mean like French and German. And it's often people in work or on the way to work on the metro or bus.

can smell it a mile away

makes me laugh when I hear people still espousing that urban myth that "vodka doesn't smell"

One of work colleagues seems to wear the same clothes every day I am rostered with him. Even during the warm summer, he would rock up to the office in his denim jacket. Now he doesn't stink of BO per se, rather that soapy fragrance common with people who don't shower regularly, but instead rub a bar of soap under the armpits. Definitely doesn't seem to use any deodorant. As the day progresses, that fragrance is superseded by rising BO.

    He's an interesting character.

Skinny people do smell but not as much as obese people. Would wager an unhealthy diet is a huge cause of BO with all the crap emitting from pores.

I think I know what it is in a lot of cases.

Sometimes if you wash clothes and they're not 100% dry and you put them away, they get a damp smell. I assume it's some sort of bacteria/fungal/mildew thing. But it gives clothes a horrible smell. It doesn't go away after the next wash either, it gets worse, so some people could continue wearing these stinky clothes wash after wash. They don't notice it and because they wash their clothes and shower, they think they're fine. I walked past someone in a shop last sunday with the damp clothes smell and it was unbelievably strong.
I have thrown out clothes like this but putting a cup vinegar in the wash of any infected clothes gets rid of it.

I wasn't "fat bashing". The girl I so happened to reference was obese which was a definite factor in her smelling like cheese.

Yes, I am aware there are plenty of skinny BO offenders

I think its just that the fat increases body temperature and makes you sweat more, causing more smell, rather than the food they eat, don't think that really affects the smell of your sweat very significantly

I noticed that too actually with a lot of continental europeans, I think it is some kind of ham or salami

It doesn't adhere to your agenda OP, but most people do actually shower in the morning.

Anyway, that's what you get for being a peasant and using public transport.

The medieval church used industrial quantities of incense to combat the reak of unwashed damp peasants attending compulsory church services.

At least the majority of people do wash and change their clothes more than once a year these days :D

Far from it actually. Do you really think skinny people smell more than fat people?
