First week without the World Cup and Sport remains on top. RTÉ ONE dominates the rest of the top shows but just barely, with a range of 277,000 for Prime Time to 160,000 for Mamma Mia.

RTÉ2 gain little traction with the end of the WC. Sports take up most of their top twenty with the highest non-sporting programme getting 108,000 (Die Another Day) and a repeat of Dragon's Den getting 53,000.

TV3's ITV soaps haven't picked up audiences since the ending of the WC with Coro St getting 251,000 down to 135,000 viewers, Emmers had 184,000 to 154,000 viewers.

The Voice Kid's helped TV3 gain some lost ground with the series getting from 96,000 to 114,000 viewers.

The Tonight Show had 97,000 viewers on Thursday Night and 95,000 viewers on Wednesday Night.

Think it's just something that has done incredibly well for ITV2. Their highest ever ratings were achieved on Monday night. Love Island lasts for 8 weeks, and so is fresh, funny, interactive and gets so many people talking amongst the toughest age group to get to watch live TV these days.

Soaps suffer due to the overexposure of so many episodes on a weekly basis.

With falling ratings and tastes changing, could we see an end to The Rose of Tralee being shown on RTE?

Not for some time yet - for all the falloff, there's very little that can generate 400k of an audience mid-week in summer, bar a World Cup.

Do they chase Sports ratings? Not so sure. The commentary and analysis ‘as gaeilge’ is fairly pointless.
