They're genuine as far as I know but you pay a hefty premium on phones that can be ordered from EU Warehouses of Chinese sellers.

Yeah for instance I bought this model from honorbuy about 2 weeks ago and it only cost €199 using Revolut and arrived to my door in a couple of days. So that's a €20 euro markup, or about 10% of the value of the phone.

I don't want to take thread off topic but
Is it recommended to use Revolut or another prepaid method when buying from these Grey type sites

If getting from Honorbuy, they accept PayPal which would be the recommended method of payment. Whatever card you link to that is up to you.

Anyone have issues assigning their own notification tones with this? I have some ones I what to use for texting etc but when I select one, the apps have it listed as none. The only tones I seem to be able to use are from the default themes folder.

Just an FYI as I have a vague memory of this being asked here, but I got a glass protector fitted in Dublin in the Ilac Centre for a tenner in Phone Fixer.

You need to unlock the bootloader, right?

I don't know anything about bootloaders etc but I'm on MIUI 9. When will 10 get rolled out as an automatic update???

Have one of these about a month and thrilled with it. Replaced an S7 Edge so can provide a bit of comparison for anybody switching similar models as I wasn't sure what to expect moving from a couple year old flagship to a budget phone like this.

The only minor initial "negatives" I could point to are switching from an Amoled to IPS display takes a bit of getting used to but I don't really notice anymore. I do think the RN5 screen performs better at reduced brightness but I haven't put this theory to the test.

Lack of NFC is a bit of an inconvenience as I liked it as a backup if for any reason you forget/lose a card. I understand this is pretty much the norm with Chinese phone but it would be nice if they added it for the EU market.

The camera is not something that bothers me but I can imagine it might be an issue for others. Perfectly fine for my needs.

Other than that I can't notice any difference in speed or performance. It's lightnight fast, boots up extremely quickly in comparison to the S7 and the battery performance is off the charts considering the large display.

The fingerprint scanner is infinitely better than the older Samsung.

Wasn't a fan of the stock UI so I'm using the new Microsoft launcher which is perfect for me.

€206 inc. delivery. Should be over in Bargain Alerts.

    Yes that's right.
I have it working flawlessly with Magisk.

I don't know of an official date yet.
However it has already been officially released for RN5 Pro China ROM handsets (the Xiaomi EU ROM is based on this).

So now it's a matter of waiting for them to release it for the Global ROM (our version)
Shouldn't be to far off I'd imagine.

MIUI 10 works fantastically with full screen and gestures.... no on-screen navigation buttons required. Just takes a little getting used to.

    Chromecast is probably the easiest

if you have a smart tv you can use the built in feature 'wireless display' to project the phones screen

I'm looking at replacing a CRT :D TV and would like to know what features I should look for in the new one.

I saw the 'wireless display' menu option - what functionality is required in the TV for this to interwork ?

I have 2 good tv's an LG and a Sony and and both have problems sometimes connecting to phones,in my opinion its much better to get a chromecast,it works 100% of the time.

Is it best to get a TV with Chromecast built in ? or to do it with a dongle on an HDMI port ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 279 ✭✭chrisire

yeah its just a dongle that has hdmi and a usb for power, both go it to tv.

We have Sony TV with built in Chromecast. With YouTube and similar apps the Chromecast symbol appears on my RN5.
    It works well.

Anyone having issues with MiUnlock app recognizing their Phone? The phone shows up in windows. I have Developer options on and OEM unlock & USB debugging set to on but when I connect it in Fastboot mode, I get nothing. Windows knows it's their, its just Mi Unlock not playing ball.

Are you using a USB 2 port?

    What does "fastboot devices" report?

Drivers all good, changed cables, still not working. Tried it once on my wife's laptop, boom worked first time :-/

Now I have to read up on why TWRP wont install due to this Anti-Roll back stuff. It's just like the old days :D

Friend has one of these a few weeks and is very happy with it. I'm sick of iPhones as they seem to be getting worse. Granted my phone is an iPhone 5. I only really use the internet and take pictures of cattle I sell etc. My iPhone seems to drop reception randomly. Usually when I have to make a call.

So is everyone happy with these phones? Can someone provide me with a safe link to buy one please. Thanks
