You are daft as a brush. Not going to happen why should only some people hand over a valuable asset

If a large building is empty after 10 years ,it,ll be given to council,
they pay a small rent to the owner and convert into temprary homeless accomodation,
    without damaging the building.
Eg see abbey street old irish times office.
The owner can take it back after a year if they wish to sell the building .
Theres 100,s of empty buildings in dublin.
Also apartment blocks have large spaces on the ground floor for retail use.
Many of these are empty as they are not in a good location,
or there is loads of shops in the area already.

Give em to charity ,eg cluid for a small fee,
    say 100 euro a week.
I think these buidings are empty because they are old,
companys like google prefer to rent or buy new office buildings.
Theres loads of new offices being built on the southside of dublin.
Give landlords in citys or large towns 100 per cent tax credit for renting to people
    on rent allowance.

One minute you are saying people are going to willingly offer up them and then you are talking about state seizures

There are 12 rooms/properties to rent in Castleknock on Daft altogether.
There are 29 rooms/properties in Castleknockon Air BnB.
It's not the main reason why there is a housing crisis but it is one of the main reasons why there is a shortage of rental rooms in the capital.
In Berlin as soon as locals were having difficulty finding rental accomadaiton & rents started increasing, they banned Air BnB.
It wouldn't solve the housing crisis but it would certainly free up a lot of rooms to rent.
But I doubt this government will do anything about Air BnB as so many TD's are also landlords so its in their interest to keep properties prices & rents high.

The reason is the councils, Councillors and politicians arent arsed doing anything about it! That saves the endless pages of filler here! I dont agree with the airbnb ban, the housing crisis is a disgrace, but that disgrace lies totally at government level, local and national! Why should that scum tell you who and who you cant rent YOUR property out too?

You convinced me that despite all the talk about the homeless, nobody is willing to help in a practical way.

They're gonna tax air b n b out of existence, so rent to whoever if it's air b n b there'll be no point shortly as the tax will be punitive.

Cull all the scumbags. And when the “hug-a-thug” do-gooders start getting up in arms over what’s going on, cull them too. Plenty of empty houses after that. Housing crisis solved. Job done

You expect only certain people contribute and sacrifice and most importantly you aren't the person who has to sacrifice

    This, is where we're heading.

Movies have been pre-programming us for years of this dystopia becoming reality in 'first-world' countries... "modular homes" yeah, right.... Shipping containers stacked and inhabited.

    hospitals too :

The modular building is located on the site of South Tipperary General Hospital.

A spokeswoman said: "The name of the successful bidder is Healthcare Accommodation and Staffing Solutions Ltd (HASS).

"This is a consortium and Extraspace Solutions Ltd is the modular build provider.

"The contract is a five-year lease.

"At the end of the five-year lease period, the HSE will have the option to retain or remove.

    and an A&E extension

People who work in Dublin but cannot afford crazy rents. Students. People who require services or supports only available in Dublin for their health because of specific conditions. People who are already in Dublin and recently became unemployed or graduated and expect to find work in Dublin in a reasonable time period.

...all of those people are valid cases for support with basic accommodation, but it should be an interim measures for most until the system can be fixed.

Probably left out a couple of valid scenarios too. But a lot of people are being accommodated who don’t have any particular need to be in Dublin and can’t afford to be there is very counter-productive and unfair.

Its not just a Dublin problem. Rents are up everywhere. Most workers in Dublin earn more than workers outside Dublin so everybody is feeling the pinch just as much.
