Caddys were at their best when they were a Polo with the van tacked on. The Caddy van is better than a Berlingo etc but still a woeful yoke compared to anything car derived.

I've never experienced a harder ride in anything, and I've put poly bushes in cars before. If you had any long term exposure to driving one you wouldn't have a spine left.

Also, no air con in a 2018, a touchscreen radio without steering controls, zero covers or sound deadening above or below the engine, and 75bhp from a 2.0TDI. Woeful stuff.

Jesus. I never would have thought a new car would come with such a low spec. I guess they sell these vans for the absolute lowest price to appeal to companies who will buy a whole fleet of them.

Ford a tearing ahead of VW on the commercial side of things the last 5 years. We have the latest transits here in work and theyre lovely to drive.

I've a connect myself and it's like night and day.

I've to drive various fleet leased commercials from time to time through work and the worst was the renault master. Newer fords are actually nice places to be at this stage. Berlingo/partner used to be the worst of the bunch but I'm hearing down the line that we're not getting any more caddys as the lease place doesnt get them in any more.
    They must be bad so.
I remember caddy being the best small van.

The problem with the Caddy is that it hasn't changed enough since 2004.

I've a Caddy as my work vehicle it's not base spec though which makes it a little nicer place to be. It's the 150bhp version, it does have a full/solid bulkhead which helps the sound deadening and it does have aircon. I've had the base spec ones too which are awful. There is a big change going from a 150bhp to a 75bhp . I would prefer the connect myself if the had a more powerful engine.

I'm in a doblo this week, 1.3 aside it is actually a grand yoke.

I did Venice to Slovinia in a 500 powered by that little 1.3, wasn't too bad iirc :)
    I was carrying nothing admittedly.

The Connects get into silly money once you go up the range. Even the Couriers are crazy pricey with a bit of spec

From a reliability point maybe but with regards comfort I've always found berlingo's and partner's to be much more comfortable than caddy's.

    On a slightly related note,
The farm workhorse a 2004 1.9d peugeot partner reached a new milestone yesterday.

Apart from routine maintenance and the customary dw8 headgasket replacement at the 2nd timing belt change its been pretty reliable.

Should the grooves in these discs not be orientated differently for each side?

Depends if the vanes inside are directional or not? Those outer grooves are purely cosmetic

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,397 ✭✭✭vintagevrs

Yeah I read that, inside is not directional. So should be good apart from it doesn't fecking look right. And let's be honest here, that's why I bought em :)

They are much cheaper to make if they are the same on both sides, thats why you have a matching pair unfortunately :o

The Journal have details of the terms of the new contract for clampers in Dublin. One is €150 fine for them every time a person clamped successfully appeals.

There is nothing wrong with them the grooves slot back to the back of the car on both sides the way they are suppose to.

You just compared them side to side while looking at them and not comparing when on the car.

One last thing on the VW too. How have they never been able to solve the fogging up windscreen problem? Used to be horrendous in my Passat, A6, and A3, the last car of theirs I drove (2014 Golf) was the same, and this van was no different. One drop of rain and you need the blowers on the screen at a heat that would melt the sun to see out.

Having the A/C on all the time at a low setting eradicates the majority of interior fog.

I used only use A/C during the summer when it was hot and normal hot air in the winter which made the fog go mad but now I have it on constantly with both cold and hot air and it keeps away any condensation.

Thanks to this legendary advice last year I've done the same and never looked back. No more foggy windows in winter, let alone the rest of the year

Although I think the A/C needs to be regassed at this stage... :o

My A/C does not function in any way at the minute. I've never had it re-gassed, but I would imagine I have bigger issues somewhere. Perhaps an o-ring leak in the system.

Not sure what you mean. If the disks are fitted to each side of the car, their orientation compared with direction of travel will be different.

I expected them to be like this:

    You could be pleasantly surprised.

I found these lads in Cork very helpful...... http://www.fastfit.ie/services/air-conditioning.php ........... went in for a regas and they did a leak test first. Told me I had a leak.

Their equipment is decent as another crowd reckoned I had no leak (I told them I had a leak) and recharged it for it to last only 2 or 3 days.

Anyway, I believe once the system drops to a certain % the compressor won't kick in so you might well not have a leak...... the FastFit folk effectively offer a quick and free (if there's a leak) leaktest from my experience :)

I thought the same about tyres I had fitted before.
The threads were going opposite ways on each side of the car.
I thought to myself, that can't be right??

To drive OCD insane, these Mazda6 alloys are directional too. On the passenger side the spokes "sweep" along but on the driver's side they claw towards the ground :D

Yeah but looking side on, the drivers side wheel turns clockwise and the passenger side anti clockwise, if the discs are milled the same then the channels will behave differently. I’m going on the assumption that the grooves are to dissipate heat

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,505 ✭✭✭Interslice

:p edit: those discs are grand

I had the same thought before too after getting a set of tyres fitted. I still don't really understand how it can work as effectively when it looks like it's on backwards. I think Uniroyal must have had a load of similar questions from customers as I found this on their site at the time:

    Thanks for that,it explains it.
The ones I had were Vredestein and I thought they felt weird on bends in the dry.
I put it down to the direction of the threads on one side so right or wrong it would put me off buying them again.
