Can't see it being anyone but Solan at this stage.

What's he like?. I see him around Galway but not sure what sort of manager he would make at senior level. He is involved in the college?

    Carnacon won their appeal tonight

Have no idea. But was involved in getting NUIG to a sigerson final earlier this year. Although, in fairness, I probably could have got NUIG to a sigerson final with the panel they had !

No surprise there. Gives them great motivation for the season. I mean all the clubs voted them out.

I have heard some background to this regarding player welfare. Things could have been handled better on both sides. Think it's a fair outcome.

I see the county board have declared that they're "putting a process in place" to select a new manager. So what happened to that August 31st deadline and all the pressure they put on Rochford to get things sorted quickly? Suddenly it doesn't seem so urgent any more. They're a f*cking joke.

Criticise them for many things but for this?? Come on, obviously the process is going to take time.

You're missing my point. They put undue public pressure on Rochford to get a management team in place and now they have actually delayed the process even further by forcing his resignation.

If they just waited around for him to come up with a team until December say, and they didn't like it...what happens then, get left with no manager with the league right around the corner. It makes sense what they've done in that regard. It's one of the only things you cant criticise them for

I agree that there should have been a deadline as the winter won't be long passing without progress otherwise. But did the deadline have to be 2 weeks? Surely you need more time than that to get the best possible backroom team.

It is a high profile job so I am surprised someone from outside has not come forward.

I certainly wouldn't write off someone 'left-field' coming into contention myself, and I personally don't think its as straightforward as Solan getting it by default

I see one of the rags are even linking Jack O'Connor to it

There's a lot of focus on the negative aspects of the job, but its still a team who have been in contention for the All Ireland for the last 6/7 years until this year (and who may just benefit from this break), there's a once in a generation talent pool of players, an opportunity to go down in folklore for getting them over the line etc. I can't see a massive shortage of candidates to be honest!

Money talks and the county board are penny pinchers and with the last few yrs
Having cost so much they will be looking to keep the bill down

Can't really agree with that tbh.

If you back the manager, then you back:
    1. That he will have his team in place in good time AND
    2. That he will pick a good backroom team.

You don't go around giving him public deadlines, at a time when an awful lot of potential candidates are caught up in Club Championship. You don't go having a meeting, to have a meeting, to interview his backroom team.

The book should stop with the manager. If you trust them to be manager, then let them manage.

It's clear from Horan's quotes that he feels the County Board don't operate this way. Connolly wants to have far too much influence and attention.

Maybe a completely naive question, but is it now generally accepted that managers get paid? I've always heard it officially denied, but whenever big name is mentioned now people question whether the CB will come up with the funds.

The same player welfare issues that the independent review did not find any evidence of?

Yes all county managers would be a nice wack. Horan with Westport is on a tidy sum breaffy, Mitchell’s are all forking out for there managers

Why do you think Maugham is gone to Offaly

To me it seems that they don't get a salary for their work as such. Eamon Fitzmaurice was adamant that the Kerry job is not a paid job. But I have often heard of expense rates being negotiated. They all definately get paid expenses but how much they get paid for them might be what varies.

If James departs Westport considering that sum he is on, considering his work with Sky, his work with Newstalk, his job, his kids and I'm sure other GAA related jobeens, I'd be shocked.

For me Solan would be the choice, thought I really think he needs to be a really strong character as he has some strong personalities to deal with.

Jack O'Connor mentioned, he comes across as a man who'd wouldn't give 2 fiddlers about reputation, McGuinness another.

While I think Solan deserves a shot, if he hasn't the ability to quench potential senior member control/interference in the squad then he is off on the wrong footing.

Solan’s U-20 team this would worry me, no protection for his defence

No don't get me wrong, I agree that they shouldn't be giving deadlines in public or that they shouldn't be picking the backroom team... But it did need a deadline in my opinion just not in public!!

Playing with Collingwood for 1 season and has committed to playing with Mayo ladies next year. 6 clubs after her according to a Mid-West interview this morning.

There may not have been evidence. I heard it from a player. Very sensitive issue. Which was handled badly. I have a bit of sympathy for both sides if true though.

Neither can I tbh. After how the Mayo County Board have treated Rochford and the previous players revolt regarding H&C I cannot see many good experienced inter-county managers being interested.
The only two I can think of who would not be intimidated by what has gone on are McGuinness and Jack O Connor. McGuinness I always viewed as pie in the sky, and said so here, so that leaves O Connor. Again for a number of reasons, not least being the travelling distance between Mayo and Kerry, I would also look at these rumours regarding O Connor as more pie in the sky.

Jack is a wily old dog. After all his involvement and achievements with recent Kerry under age teams I imagine be has got to be interested in another shot at the vacant Kerry job. Wouldn`t surprise me in the least if these rumours came from his good self to aid him in achieving that.

If it's true, then why was the independent review committee not able to verify it with the players involved, including the player you spoke to? If they didn't believe their/her claims then, why do you believe it now? No offense, but surely they are in a better position to judge than you are?

I know where you are coming from. I don't know why. Except that people may not have been comfortable sharing the facts. I won't either in case they are wrong. Cora apparently said last night that it will all come out eventually. It will make more sense then.

Auld lad was saying that he heard ford was approached about the job and he said he would consider it, it then came into the press that he had accepted the job before he had said yes or no. The county board then asled a meeting to see what the story was.
Conway and ford and rochford have been treated terribly.
He also said that mcentee was a huge earner and that it cost 4 millionto run the team for the year. Rochford had 29 of a backroom team and that his brother was in charge of accomadation and he picked 5 star hotels for the players to stay in during the league which the cb didnt like
