Well, shiver me timbers...

    https://www.virginmediatelevision.ie/

Only the name has been changed...and the branding.

Pointless rebrand - TV3 was still recognignised as an Irish Station.

Virgin One is a sort of ITV lite.

Couldn't they have renamed it ITV Ireland? Would have been a more accurate description.

The white text on the light blue background news ticker on the Ireland am show is terrible. Very difficult to read. Black text might work better.

So will TG4 become TG3? :pac:
Wasn't the reason TnaG became TG4 becaause TV3 started and took the 3 as their name?

You're just sore because it makes your username redundant. :)

As I do each morning, I watch the 7am news on Ireland AM. Had to laugh at Ciara Doherty giving the details on how to text and email the show, she started saying "Send your emails to Irelandam@T.....Virginmedia.ie", I am sure there will be a few slips like that. They also referred to their new studio as their new "hub" and handed over to the "news hub". Buzzword overkill!

Are they totally ignoring their past (other than the documentaries they will show about the 20 years) going forward?

That was the first thing that struck me when I turned the TV on this morning. That and when they put their email etc on screen it was white writing on a bright yellow background. Who the fcuk designs this stuff

    Horrible things

The DOGs at the top right corner of the screen are rather big too - wouldn't surprise me if they're *deliberately* big to draw attention to the new names.

As for the idents... well, I don't have to eat a pair of socks, because they're not as good as the Carlton 1999 idents (see post #36). :D

Nor are they as good as what they've replaced - I quite liked the huge perspex '3' standing over Rathmines and Cobh. (Obviously it was computer-generated, but I assume it was supposed to resemble perspex.)

Only the name has been changed...and the branding.

Well, clearly the site has changed too... and, as I said in post #119, almost in the blink of an eye (it changed shortly before 11pm last night). ;)

Couldn't they have renamed it ITV Ireland? Would have been a more accurate description.

Only if it's owned by ITV plc.

Mind you, they haven't ditched the UTV name just yet. ;)

Do people actually *want* TG4 to become TG3?

I certainly don't - even if it made more sense than this act of Virginisation.

The Ireland AM set looks a lot better on screen than it did in those promotional pictures yesterday. The music stays the same.

The music has been the same ever since the show began in 1999 - there would probably be war if they changed it now. :D

Well, obviously there'll be another series of Ireland's Got Talent, and another series of Gogglebox Ireland - as well as the millionth series of Livin' with Lucy. ;)

Have Virgin Media any notion in improving the picture quality? its fine on smaller TVs, 720 × 576i must be made the new standard definition, I've given up on HD a long time ago.

Yes that is exactly the reason, and if right is right TnaG should take the 3 position. It should launch as a HD channel also. TG3 sounds better. It cost nothing to change name and swap around.

    I guess I should create a poll then... :o:D;)

The new Virgin Media One started at 7am this morning. They were still using the TV3 idents and promos before this.

3Kids looks to be just called Kids now.

VM3 going with a premiere of the Irish produced film A Date For Mad Mary tonight at 9:30 (late change to the schedule a few days ago)

Don't think calling it Virgin Kids would have gone down too well. :pac:

I wonder will the Emmerdale viewers switch over to ITV at 8 instead of watching the news.

It may work out better for soap viewers, as that edition of Emmerdale always clashed with Fair City.

As said already, the logo is way too big, or they need to move it more into the corner.

To be fair it would have a cost impact and I'm not sure long term it would gain them any more revenue or viewership

That said it would make sense to move it to three and have all the virgin channels grouped together

The logos are huge, taking over half the screen.

Logos look terrible. Like some of the third rate channels you find up in the 2-300s

With everyone else - those logos are totally distracting, could they have not made them transparent at least - thats not excepting the stupid channel names, why not VM1, VM2...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 844 ✭✭✭Mickey Mike

Hopefully with a bit of time they will reduce the size of these annoying logos (I never liked them, any logo for that matter), from a distance all you'll see is a logo.

Alas no, but it’s death by a thousand cuts continues, it seems to be down to three editions on Virgin Media Two now.

Meanwhile I’m bemused that my Sky Q app is using the old TV3 News at 8:00 logo (from the first time round) as the thumbnail for the revived version.
