    No way ???

FFS. The number of worthwhile causes and charities is dwindling.

All mine involve animals of some sort now.

I regularly give money to the simon community. Used to give to the SVP but I don't agree with the reality of what they do, handing out to anyone without question means that they are abused left right and centre and I heard it from a chap I know in coolock first hand that the neighbours were getting stuff from SVP despite having newish cars and holidays etc.

Sadly that doesn't surprise me. We do the Giving Tree in work each year for the SVP and I've been told some of the gifts get collected and sold on EBay.

    Tragic.

I dont give the SVP a washer

I have seen them treated as a little Christmas bonus every year by people who certainly dont need it

I stopped supporting SVP because they came down and paid some scumbags bail in Mullingar.

SVP paying bail? I’ll temember that when Ryan Tubridy asks us to reach into our long pockets with that condescending tone he puts on.

It's hard because I also know directly people who were helped by SVP who really needed it, mother and 3 kids in a poor area of dublin after the husband - who was the only one working - upped and left.

But you can't just give without questioning where it goes.

Yeah I wasnt aware of that. Paying bail has added them to my "never again" charity list now for sure.

and I bet it broke her heart to have to lift the phone to ring them

on the other hand you have these scumbags who have no shame abusing a charity

bloody hell, this makes depressing reading. I always give to the SVP tree at Christmas, to think it ends up on eBay and not with kids who don't have much.

I organised the giving tree in my office and there was a brilliant response, people gave so generously. The naive optimist in me hopes the gifts went to kids who needed them.

Yeah it did for sure, I'd be a close friend and she only told me years later.
That's the difference between honest people having a bad luck, or wasters leeching.

    Where are you seeing that?

There’s not much you can do other than being strapped down and ****ed by the state.

If we organized a protest there’d be Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil, PBP/AAA, Sinn Féin etc accusing us of discriminating against the travellers, the poor, the needy. We’d be called the elite, the 1%, racists, right wingers, bankers etc etc. Even if we marched down O’Connell street with a massive banner advocating for the real poor/homeless in this country we’d still be branded all these things.

To be fair to your one Fleming I can see where she is coming from looking for certainty. HAP/RAS scheme aren’t this. She was also working and went back to education I think.

Cash is known to associate with criminals and has in the past arrested for being in the car full of stolen goods. She’s also known to default on rent payments. What’s to say South Dublin County Council giving her a house and she defaults and runs up 1000s of euros in unpaid rent. I believe with some councils it’s mandatory that you pay by An Post Household Budget if getting a social welfare payment. Would have to clarify that with SDCC. The question there would be does she get it via An Post or by bank account.
Whilst I understand your point, I do genuinely find it hard to believe that scenario would transpire. Maybe the media would label "us" as right-wing/racists, etc., but the political parties would be foolish to do so. After all, we are the main contributors to the economy - the gift that keeps on giving, one could say. If Middle Ireland revolted, the country would grind to a halt. I would love nothing more than for this to happen but, the reality is - as some other poster alluded to - the will just isn't there among the masses. I would like to think that most of the working population realise that we are in dire need of social reform, but most are just apathetic to it (and that isn't a criticism, it's just the reality).

I'm surprised at people's surprise re SVP. That has been going on for years - buying cigarettes for prisoners etc etc. I gave up supporting any of these charities years ago. The whole thing is a giant scheme.

I tend to support other things now like hospices and sick children's groups etc.

When has middle Ireland ever revolted? Not likely to happen either because there's no one to represent and organise us.

Plus we are too busy working, paying mortgages, getting taxed to the hilt and paying more for the likes of Margaret to have as many kids as she likes despite never having worked a day in her life

Also so Margaret can have a home forever at the taxpayer expense

You (we) might be the main contributors to the economy, but we are not the main voters anymore. Politicians don't care about economy as soon as they get elected.

The poor and vulnerable generally do get nothing because the leeches like Cash and co. I stopped supporting SVP in Thurles because of people like Cash getting €100s in vouchers and hampers and the unemployed, BTEA, Disabled single people getting stale soups and cereals.

None of the food given is stale. The VdeP food banks are excellent and open to all in need .

To fund creches it seems. Bear in mind that people on myriad social welfare schemes already get free / cheap creches even if they're not working (why do they need childcare so?!), whereas the working stiff (who actually needs childcare) has to pay through the nose of course.

The food might not be stale as such, but the food in many cases is either bordering its best before date by a matter of days or it has exceeded them by a month or 2, I have seen this with my own 2 eyes. Meats and frozen products that have thawed out etc.

    He’s actually right.

Since I moved to Cork I have met some dole lifer parents.

Kids in the crèche for nearly 4 hours each day, cost €4 is a day.

My friend lost her job while pregnant, after having the baby she tried to get them into the local community creche so she could get back to work. They had no spots, some unemployed parents had full time places while not working (or looking, as they had never worked ever)! she got by with help from family and got back to work part time, she now has a place in said creche (part-time) while those that had full time places (not working) still have them. The system in parts is very very very broken. I don't know or if there is a will to fix it.

I've fired off an email to a raft of TDs a few minutes ago. Let them know what I thought of this situation and all the freeloaders. Probably not worth my while but gave me some sense of satisfaction!

We should really look at starting a boards political party. This is the only place it seems to be okay to be the squeezed middle and proud. SJW have taken every other site.

This is just another bit of anecdotal evidence which shows how these ****ing leeches in our society are exacerbating existing problems. We hear all the time in the media about the cost of childcare, demand, etc. It is analogous to the housing crisis, where people who actually need the service can't avail of it. There are genuine families who need housing, and who I would have no problem supporting, but they are suffering as a result of the Margaret Cash and her ilk. It is bloody disgraceful and when the election rolls around next year, any politician that calls to me will be told exactly what the issues are.
