What launcher are you using? With light use I can get 2 days I'd imagine. Go to bed each night with about 45 or 50 percent. That's from 7am to about 11pm.

I use the ruthless pixel launcher,I charged it Monday evening and just put it on to charge again now with about 20% still left on it.

Jesus, do you use it at all???! Is that battery life due to the launcher or just minimal use?

Don't think the launcher makes a difference,I probably watch about an hour of youtube a day, twitter a few times and calls and texts, dont play games on it.

Are you mostly on WiFi rather than 4G for your data? That would make a difference.
For me I need to charge it daily :-)

Bought my Mrs one of these over the summer but having issues sending and receiving text messages sometimes they work sometimes they won't if sending it will fail or if receiving it takes ages. Currently on Tesco mobile on the latest official MiUI so tried various fixes like moving the Sim into Sim 2 spot and same issue. Anyone have similar issues?

Friend of mine was having the same problem with Tesco too and a sim change fixed it

For anyone using their Redmi Note 5 with Tesco MObile: Tesco recently enabled 4G (finally!) on Billpay phones. It didn't work for me - for it to work you need to change the APN settings as follows: Settings > Sim Cards & Mobile Networks > Tesco Mobile > Access point Names > Tesco Mobile

Hey folks, so my new Redmi Note arrived yesterday and I'm planning on upgrading it to Lineage OS, once my 360 hours has elapsed , and wanted to run the process by you to see if there is anything that I've missed

    1. Unlock the boatload once the 360 hours has elapsed
    2. Check if Anti Roll back is enabled, if it is flash dummy.img
    3. Install Custom recovery, I've seen a lot of mentions of Redwolf TWRP is this still the best one to use or should I just use regular TWRP now that it is an officially supported device
    4. Flash ROM
    5. Flash Magisk for root

    Have I missed anything?

Also looking for a case and was thinking about this one. Has anyone any experience with this case or recommendation of another good one.

    Thanks

mate at work asked me this today...an issue with his redmi note 5 that he got after i recommended it.

he can connect to a head unit in his car via bluetooth...he can read on head unit the track playing...but no audio is heard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 122 ✭✭Dunne_bkill

The phone asks me if it's OK to connect to my car Bluetooth every time I get into it. Have literally press yes for it to connect. Is there a way around this? Very annoying.

Tried turning the volume up? I find volume is low, needs to almost be maxed on phone and have the car stereo higher than normal for it to be at a reasonable hearing level.

i sent him a link i found (xda thread) . he changed codecs and heard back from him that it worked.

Mine connects fine via Bluetooth & no issue with volume. Cars system can't recognise the phone when trying to connect it as a smartphone though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,091 ✭✭✭biebiebie

I've no issues with car Bluetooth.
Phone is paired correctly and listed under paired devices on the car.

No issues with volume either, neither on stock or MIUI.eu ROM.

Perhaps the above issues are on the cars end rather than the phone.

Time to upgrade the car?! ;-)

It is an Oreo problem with some car units.

Changing the protocol in use in developer options, has been reported to work for some.

    * The MIUI ROM my phone came with did not have ARB so I didnt have to worry about that,
    * Normal TWRP
    * I needed to encrypt the device otherwise lineageOS would get stuck in bootloop. See the following threads:
    ** https://www.reddit.com/r/LineageOS/comments/8zpn5a/official_lineageos_151_for_whyred_rn5_now/
    * I used addonsu-15.1 packages for root from https://download.lineageos.org/extras

Lazy option I know- is the phone compatible with Tesco 4g?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,250 ✭✭✭morgana

Yes. You need to change the APN settings - see my post with screenshots a few posts up.

    Great thanks for the info.

I normally use the Lineage OS addon for root but going to try Magisk this time so that I can get seamless root and hide root from some of the apps so I can get full functionality

It's rather excellent. It comes with a lot of features but hiding root is something that the ordinary punter may want to use. Some apps won't allow installation on rooted devices so hiding root from the Play Store gets around that.

Did anyone have a problem with the last update with all the security settings changing?
An absolute pain to get it back to the way I had it. An week on and I'm still struggling.

Been using a Note 4 for a while now, and happy out. Is this a decent upgrade or worth it.

I was a RN4 user too, until I dropped it and cracked the screen, so used that as excuse to upgrade :)

Things that I noticed are better is the camera and longer aspect ratio and slightly brighter screen. Otherwise not much different - so if your RN4 is still going strong then I'd be inclined to hold off a while for the next gen, maybe check out the pocophone?

How Is ResurrectionRemix On Redmi Note 5 Pro Right Now? 27-08-2018

^^^ Currently using the above rom, with August Patches, the Build have switch to Monthly, because development has stalled on Oreo. With Dev's working on Pie instead.

Pixel Experience Pie On Redmi Note 5 Pro! A Week Later...

As there is no Xposed for Pie yet, still using Oreo myself as a daily driver.
But have been experimenting with Treble Pie GSI on my Kenzo.
