That backroom team was the last straw maybe.

He's as well off gone tbh, owes us nothing

So reading the tea leaves, Forde and Conway were all the cb would spring for as replacements for Buckley and McEntee. That seems like a much cheaper pair as an alternative as both are based within the county. I wonder did Rochford have more exotic options lined up or were his existing team pushed out against their and his wills?

That's interesting because Connelly's statement certainly gave the impression that it was up to Rochford to source replacements which would imply that he got Forde and Conway on board.
Speaking of Forde and Conway, its pretty harsh on them. They're announced as backroom team and then straight away then sorry your services are no longer required.
If the rumour's are true, I am sorry to see him go. 2016 and 2017 were two of the best years I have had as a Mayo fan, albeit without a Connacht title. But Beating Tyrone and the drawn final in 2016. Then the replay against Roscommon and both games against Kerry in 2017. The final obviously wasn't the right result but when Lee Keegan scored that goal i really thought this is it. Fantastic times!

It would wind the Dubs up no end if it becomes story of the week :-)

I too would be sorry to see him not give it another year at least.

He has got Mayo as close as anyone to a championship.

And what is the alternative ?

And please, no one say McGuinness

If it's true, then I think Rochford will go down as another manager treated abysmally by this county board. I know I go on about it here, but they're one of the worst showers I've ever come across in GAA circles. To first of all go to the press about dropping players and bringing new ones in, then to allow word to go out that Rochford was back, then to go to the press again with a deadline for Rochford to pick his backroom team, then to have him pick that team and make an annoucement, only for it all to fall apart? It stinks.
And if I hear anything even remotely confirming the stories I've heard about a certain prominent family in Westport sticking their oar in to get a certain big name in as manager, then the entire county board should be sacked from top to bottom.

Someone said above that if the annoucements for the backroom team were true that we'd see some retirements. I actually think that if this latest round of f*ckery is true, there'll be more than a couple who will walk away.

Au contraire mon ami. Between Limerick ending their famine, Mickey Harte's spat with RTE and Himself paying us a visit, we are only too delighted to be out of the spotlight. We'll do our talking on the pitch. :D

Just on mid west radio that Rochford is 2 remain on...mid west contacted county board about the rumours that are going around...they said he is 2 remain as manager

Mid-west are hardly likely to be reporting un-substantiated rumours on twitter. They will need the official word

So where is all this coming from? Connelly stoked the embers earlier this month. Otherwise this is malicious gossip with those saying it publicly and (presumably/hopefully) innocently just being used for a fool.

Leaving the family out of it, can you provide a hint as to who the manager might be? JMcG?

    "
    Stephen Rochford

THE Mayo GAA County Board has issued a statement confirming that Stephen Rochford is still manager of the county's senior squad despite social media speculation to the contrary.

The statement was issued to Midwest Radio this afternoon in response to a query about the Ballinrobe-based coach's position.

Since the statement was issued, The Connaught Telegraph spoke to the chairman of the Mayo County Board, Mike Connelly, who said Stephen Rochford remains manager of Mayo.

No further comment is being made at this point.

The popular Mayo GAA Banter page had posted the following on its Facebook platform earlier: "Reports this morning that Stephen Rochford has stepped down as Mayo Senior Football team manager. Nothing official from Mayo GAA yet though."

The post attracted 199 comments up to 1.30 p.m.

Mayo GAA tweeted yesterday after an executive committee meeting: "Following an executive meeting of Mayo GAA, the officers of the board were authorised to meet Stephen Rochford and his management team on their structures and plans for 2019."

Reports also circulated at the weekend that Rochford was bringing former Mayo captain Peter Ford and Breaffy GAA coach Shane Conway on board as part of his new management teams."

Ah ref is not usually too far off though. The rumour is that rochford is going to step down not sacked by the county board. This still stinks of something for me and i woukdnt be surprised if this is the county board making out that this is rochfords decision and they dont want him to go.

Theres a big difference between a sacking and a resignation. IF Roch has hinted that he is considering his position after whatever meeting they have had, this is probably where the rumour has come from. So technically he is still the manager in the eyes of the county board until he makes that call..... if any of this is even true. Theres a shtank of pollock around it all the same

He got no support at all at the executive meeting last night. They dont want him but are not going to sack him. Im guessing they hope he will walk

    How do you know this?

A friend of a friend of mine knows a guy that supplies jaffa cakes to the Western People and apparently the county board flew in Pope Francis yesterday for talks. The deal's as good as done from what I understand and he's just returned to the Vatican to finalise his backroom team.

You're hilarious. As you well know i cant say where i heard it but i know t's 100% correct. Im not in the habit of posting bull**** on here, take it anyway you want.

Respected long time poster posts something, I would tend to take their word.

It's no real shock to hear that he hasn't got their full support either. I don't think you have to be in the know to figure that out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 973 ✭✭✭homewardbound11

Just out on National radio that he’s gone .
Only in mayo would this happen . The only commonality over all the managerial messes since Moran is the county board .

What do you mean by support and I am not having a go here? Did they have a go at him about the success of the year and the failings to proceed in the championship? Some could see this as not giving support but I would think this is reasonable to ask to get his opinion but if they lambasted him and tried to push a blame game on him, then I would agree that they are not giving him support and want him out. You can read this many ways.

Anyway, I can't understand why they don't want him unless they have someone superior (in their eyes) lined up.
