Are there any rumours whats gonna happen to it? Most likely either another shopping centre (there was planning put forward for one around there years ago) or a shops at bottom/apartments ontop deal?

It'll be either a shopping centre or a town center type thing similar to the "New" main street. It's is zoned for that so they won't get planning for anything else.

My guess would be a new street with commercial on ground floor and aprts on top

Anything is better than what’s there already. Just hoping they come up with something more original and interesting to name the potential street than what Texas Tom thought of for his street.

Was rumoured to be going where the new spar is now a couple of years ago. Presume it's the same fella opening it that has spar?

It's going to be in the Bridge Centre, beside the post office.

Than what the Council allowed him to call it, you mean. Disgraceful dereliction of duty.

Someone who works on that street told me apparently a Chinese restaurant is going in there, I’ve no idea how true that is though.

Will they be keeping the pub license ?

So no functioning pubs on Patrick street, I wonder how many pubs used to be there 30-40 years ago ?

I remember Bob Smyths, Wrafters I think it was, the Capitol bar ( Brady's) and Bolger's hotel lounge about 30 years ago.

There was another pub between Dunnes Stores and Talbots about 40 or 50 years ago.

Was a regular in Bob Smyths back in the day, sad to see it gone.

I think that pub was 'Brazil's' aka Delia Brazil's. As well as Smyths, which was previously McGowans, and Wrafters there was a pub behind the old Five Star supermarket called ???

Where about's were these pubs located where current businesses are? Interesting to hear about.

Wanna back up what a previous poster asked. Any word about the Copper Pot? Always liked that place.

I really like the tanyard lane since it’s been under new management. The staff are lovely, and they seem to be introducing fun things during the week, I see they’re doing pub quizzes and during the summer they had a few bbqs. Hopefully it gets busier, it is a good spot.

Just noticed that Specsavers is going into the old K&G Kids shop and not the bridge centre. Be great to have another business open there.

I see Bob Smiths has a new sign up on it,
"Oyima Bar" , looks like it will still be bar anyway. I did hear a rumour some time ago that some Chinese group from Dublin bought it and were going to have a casino upstairs and a bar downstairs, we shall see

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,646 ✭✭✭✭qo2cj1dsne8y4k

The Chinese from canton regent are still hanging around that bar, I think they must own it

Could be the same crowd alright, heard another rumour that they were moving their restaurant there but that seems unlikely now.

Speaking of bars, anybody got an update on The Pheonix bar

The new late bar/club "The Phoenix" in O'Connor Square is opening on Thursday the 22nd

The Tanyard Pub is relaunching as "William Street Gastro Pub"
They are going full Gastro pub, new chef and new MGMT. The chef from Hart's in Kildare is coming in.

Any word on Bob Smyth's ?, I can see work going on in it

Feel bad that the bar didn’t work out for the new manager that took it over, but I feel the damage was done with the initial crowd. Bad atmosphere with the staff, staff drinking on the job. While the new manager wasn’t the most pleasant, the team were lovely and the food was much better and more consistent in quality.

Hearing different things about bob smiths. Restaurant supposed to be upstairs but couldn’t get planning, then I heard that it was a casino. But I’m not sure. They’re the same people who have the canton regent anyway.

Long overdue. Stupid name. Like that horse's arse being allowed to name his new boulevard as 'Main St'.

Brookville house b&b is a 2 minute walk from the town centre. It faces the Grand canal.

I think the one down near the canal is where the council might put people who have nowhere to go. Unless that has changed now

Driving passed the Crib in Market Square today I had to do a double take....the getup of Mary, Joseph and the Wise men was a sight to behold.

None of yer ould swaddling clothes for this lot. They're all bedecked in Gold cloaks and gold ribbons, well there's some excuse for the Wise men, they came bearing gifts so they're not short of a few bob...but Mary and Joseph ? who didn't have two schillings to rub together.

The boom is back baby and if you don't believe me have a look in the stable in Market Square.
