Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So was there much VR related news at e3? I see a Wolfenstein and Prey game, but there was nothing from PSVR, was there?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,585 ✭✭✭Jerichoholic

There was couple, From Software have something about a Fairy and some Rick and Morty unfunny trash. Neither look like much.

Only Beat Saber, Tetris and the Rick and Morty spin off game thingy.

But they have released more trailers stealthily on their youtube channel.

Ill compile them now and put them in the PSVR thread.

Evening all! Couple of weeks back I upgraded to a pro and Im highly tempted by psvr during the sale.
Ive only ever tried google carboard. How does psvr stack up? Is it worth it?
I plan on playing games in cinematic mode. That worthwhile?
Also which game should i get free superhot or wipeout?

Yes it's worth it.. particularly on a Pro.

Superhot is a stand up "feel like Neo in Matrix" game. Maybe a bit short.

    Also needs the Move controllers.

Wipeout is a sit down "feel like you're on a rollercoaster" racer. Lots of replayability.

Google Cardboard vs PSVR, is like comparing watching F1 on a TV to actually being in the F1 car yourself.

Not sure if its been mentioned in any of the forums here, but it appears you can watch the BBC World Cup games on a PSVR

    Is it defo not region-restricted?

It's unclear yet. I got it from the UK account, nobody knows if it will work outside UK yet. First BBC game is today at 4, so we'll know then.

    Keep us updated....working.

I did a quick search on my PS account, which is an Irish one, and it doesn't seem to be showing as available for download.

Would love to try it out.

You should open a GB account as the prices are generally cheaper for games given the conversion rate (plus you can often get great deals on sterling PS credit).

When a sale happens on the Irish store it happens on GB too.

Have my UK account on but no football in the app. I think they're on to us.

Is it possible to create a UK account when you're based in Ireland?

If so, does your PS4 know what country it's in?

I'd love to try it out. Is it possible to have a UK and RoI account on the same PS4?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 954 ✭✭✭TacoMan

I'd guess that even if you're using a UK account, your Playstation's Irish ip address will still be detected, blocking access to the app.

It's a pity, was looking forward to trying it out.

Might be able to alter the ip address if you're on PC/Oculus.

Just out of curiosity anyone know of decent VR review sites or channels?

Reddit is just a spamfest for this stuff

PSVR without Parole seems to be the only decent all rounder. Need to deal with Americanisms though.

Edit: sorry, thought this was the psvr thread.

All the best reviewers are on PSVR-only unfortunately (PSVR Without Parole / Shugghead Gaming / etc).

Paradise Decay is closest on PCVR, but it's relatively amateur in comparison and more like let's plays.

Sweviver is probably one of the most popular youtubers for PC VR gameplays, he's highly enthusiastic but perhaps not the most critical:

    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQ33TPQYw_-c6itr0ReIu-Q

He might be a bit quiet over the next week or 2 because he received a beta model of the Pimax 8K headset and he'll be doing some reviewing for them.

Josh Dub does humorous gameplays of VR games on PC, he's a good laugh if you can tolerate Aussie humour:

    https://www.youtube.com/user/squalaceedm

I'm not quite sure of anyone who consistently puts up reviews as such, these guys would be more like the biggest PC VR personalities, time do searching for a good review channel.

Looks like PSVR Frank has his own PCVR channel:

Barefoot Gaming seem a bit more active:

To be honest I just watch PSVR Without Parole, or Shugghead when deciding on PCVR as well.

e.g. this video has got me thinking I want to get Exorcist on my Rift now...

Got a spare WiiFit lying around?

You can pair it to your PC and simulate riding a snowboard!

    https://lucamefisto.itch.io/perpetual-snowslide

Fricking amazing idea. Think of the possibilities of using a WiiFit for other games to aid locomotion???

Man I can't wait till my contract ends and I go into VR development full time between contracts ;)

Well I saw an android app that lets you use the balance board as an advanced digital scales so it is possible but would need to be supported via an app or as a control input.

Would really be upto the developers to implement it.

Quake 2 in VR is pretty damned impressive!

Playing for 2 hours there and probably played better than I ever did as a wee 20-something.

    Here's the mod: http://www.malcolm-s.net/q2vr/

Simply copy files into an installation of Quake 2, put on VR headset and start Quake2VR.exe. Controls work straight away!

I really need to get on that one! Loved Quake II back in the day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,861 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

Only thing is that it's not 6DoF, so moving your head forward doesn't move your head in game or your arms don't reach forward, you just aim and can look around independent of where your gun is pointing. But you hardly notice it and it doesn't take away from the experience.

Posted this in the Arcade and Retro Forum.

A VR experience thats currently in development which lets you play all the Retroarch emulators in a virtual room called EmuVR.

Got a 3rd sensor for my Rift and oh my God, it's like I'm discovering VR all over again.

I actually feel immersed for the first time. 100 times improvement over two sensors.

Get one if you haven't yet.

Just got the Marvel Rift bundle into my parcel motel last night, having only sampled Vive/Rift in Arcades/Corporate events before....I'm like a child at xmas!

Need to sort the damn sensors though..definitely need to find a way to tidily mount em..

aye I hate visible wires, but managed to mount my sensors either side of a bookcase and have the wires go round the back then come out via the lower shelf.
I tuck them away when not in use.

The 3rd sensor wires were a bit more tricky to hide as the sensor has to go at the back of the room, while the wire extends back up to the front of the room where I put my laptop during VR sessions.

I somehow managed to do it by judicious use of cable ties, curtain rails, curtains and lots of clothes pegs ;)

Got a gopro adhesive mount thing for the two sensors so have them up on the ceiling now :) ..need to get a third sensor at some stage.

Gotta say - Beat Saber is incredible. I've tried a lot of VR games but that's the one that steals the show for me right now. I can only imagine how ridiculous I look to the outside world.

    This.

Frequent reports about it being a sweaty experience are what's holding me back. Not a fan of getting my headset all gunked up with sweat.

Is it really that much exertion? Perhaps a fan blowing directly on you lessens this :)

    Also there's this: https://steamcommunity.com/app/620980/discussions/0/2828702372993451141/

Warning to you Vive players, though I imagine Rift is similar

The thought of buying a mini fan crossed my mind!

Haha, I tried counter it by putting on a bandana/sweatband type thing I got during a tough mudderesque race that keeps it from wrecking the headset, but decided that wasn't very good if it came to letting mates have a go.

So went onto amazon and got a VRCover which replaces the foamy sponge with a faux leather type headband which is easier to wipe down if you're letting others use the rift! It just arrived last night, so have to fit it properly to see if it's an improvement!

I can't imagine sharing the rift without being able to wipe down the headset!

Seriously though, beat saber exceeded all expectations and was more than worth the €19.99 paid.

I see the Vive has an Intel Wireless solution going on sale in September for 300 American dollah. Additional 60 dollar adaptor required for Pro owners which is a bit of a kick in the teeth for them

Will wait to see what the reviews are like, very dubious about shelling out 350 euros to dump the cable

finally going to buy a rift marvel edition :) being waiting to get into vr a for a good few years now. Any tips or must dos etc. ? should i get the third sensor? how many usb ports are needed? i presume a 6700k and a 1080ti is still loads for vr?

Can you run your pc through vr? use it basically as a monitor? any good cinema apps?

sorry for the load of questions, excited :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,261 ✭✭✭Shlippery

Third Sensor seems worthy, I feel like I need to get one, pain in the ass when you're inadvertently facing the wrong way and the two front sensors stop picking you up.

Not thrilled with the marvel game tho :/ ..not as much fun as I'd hoped!
