I rejoined 2 weeks ago. I went to a totally new group in a different area. Different consultant. She's really nice and it really makes a big difference. Was down 2.5 lbs tonight. Got slimmer of the week too. People are nice there too

So I bit the bullet and went back last night for the first time since Oct/Nov last year. Went to a new consultant as I wanted a fresh start.

Was absolutely bricking it standing back up on the scales, but net result was up 15lbs which I was probably expecting in all honesty. I was actually a bit glad it wasn't more.

Looking on the bright side, this is off the back of a very heavy BH weekend spent away with friends and eating and drinking all around us, so I'm hoping that some of that number is directly attributable to that excess and will fall away quite quickly.

Serves me right for being too afraid to weigh myself for 10 months!

Thanks guys, I'm looking at different groups around my area. There's one at 7.30pm on a Tuesday which is a bit later than what i'd like but I could just leave work a bit later and go to the gym a bit later before going to the weigh in.

Guys/gals, how many syns do you use on average every day?
Have u noticed any correlation on the scales between using eg 1/3 of your allowance vs almost all of your syns in a week?
I usually go for 6 or less, but Tues/wed (after weigh in) it'll usually be 10-15. I've been seeing good results but wondering if I'm going overly hard on myself for no reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,889 ✭✭✭SozBbz

Well I'm only getting back into it this week but so far I've been using 10-15 per day because the struggle of getting myself back on plan is hard enough without limiting my syns overly!
I'm onto day 4 today and have already used my A and B choices for breakfast as well as 3 syns. Going to try to keep lunch clean enough and keep a few for dinner as well as maybe some small amount of chocolate later.
My mindset is now to trust the plan, if the plan says I can have it, then I'm having it!
Not doing too badly this week, in that I've been to the gym twice and have done a fair amount of walking so although I'm still a few days from weighin, I'm feeling positive. Going to try to have a Sober Sally weekend too which I hope will help give me a good result for my first weigh in and in turn that will spur me on to keep going!

Use your syns! That's what they're there for! I've come this far with using almost all of my 15 syns every day.

Cheers! U've lost a fair bit already right first time round? Are u doing anything different this week rather than last time and how r u finding it?

Thanks! U've said u lost 5/7.5 stone (that's so impressive!) What kind of time frame is that in? I sit at a computer all day so I'm a bit worried I'm well under the regular expected calorie burning you'd usually expect.

Week 68 and week 69 no official weigh in, again not on plan. I will go to weigh in this week. I'm heading on holidays in 2 weeks and a wedding 4 weeks.

On my own scales I only weighed myself Friday and I was up. So I had a good day food wise last 3 days but had a night out last night so I was over syns. I will reduce my syns until weigh in to make up for going over yesterday on alcohol.

I have made out my food diary by dates until the holidays to keep me on plan , I just have lost my mojo...however my clothes starting to feel tighter, my mood not as good, less exercise. I know what I need to do why am I sabotaging myself..

    Onwards and downwards Val...

I sit at a desk all day as well. I started on SW in May 2017.

Anyone got a low syn savoury mince recipe? Made it Saturday for my fiancee but it was a bit dry - need a good bit more liquid! Served with Egg Mash Potato!

ok just had a not very on plan panini for lunch :/ Need to nip that in the bud and behave for the rest of the day.
Lunches whilst working in town is a real struggle for me. Previously (last time I was following the plan)I had access to a canteen and was able to stay reasonably on plan there, but we've very little in the way of facilities in my current job (we have a fridge and a microwave but nowhere to eat other than your desk).
Can anyone suggest good options in town for lunches that are on plan. All i have so far is subway, chopped and M&S but I'm worried I'll get sick of those soon.

Not really, trying to replicate what worked before - Obviously as above I've just had a minor blip but what I always liked about SW is the basis in real, tasty food and therefore I found it easy to get back on plan after a slip or after a period where I'd planned to go off plan (I've always allowed myself the ocasional indulgence)
This weekend I did stay off alcohol altogether and I'm hoping that will show on the scales tomorrow. Lunches are my current struggle.
For most of the week I've been having a low/no syn breakfast, possibly using hexb, and then using a few syns here and there throughout the day for things to make my meals as tasty as possible like a bit of olive oil or ketchup etc. then I like to have a few left for an evening snack around 9pm. My current favourite vice is Dairy Milk Little Bars which are 5 syns and I'd have that with an apple/orange/berries etc.
I'm finding dinners pretty easy, just using frylight and buying lean meats and using loads of veg. I'm lucky in that this matches pretty well with what I like to eat anyway. I don't think my dinners have changed much before or after SW, I'm still eating much of the same stuff, it just how I cook it has changed.

Lunches whilst in town can be easily combated... make a lunch the night before and bring it with you. Problem solved. I don't do SW as such but when with my other half I eat SW food e.g. we go to Nandos on a Wednesday, cook SW meals on the weekend. I work in Dublin City for the past 8 months and I'd say I can count on my fingers times I've bought lunch out.

My fiancee who does SW brings a wholemeal sandwich, choice of meat, spinach and a tablespoon of ketchup along with some homemade soup (my Saturday afternoon fun).

You'll save a small fortune, you'll save a tough of time queuing and you'll be on plan!

I know this is probably the answer, I'm just a bit reluctant as it means basically not moving from my desk which is a bit depressing. Maybe I need to get into a habit of going out for some other reason so I feel like I'm actually getting some break from my desk over lunch.
Its a very small office compared to my previous jobs so the cabin fever is bad enough as it is!

Is there not a canteen or kitchen were you can eat to get away from your desk?

During the good weather I went out to the Liffey to eat my lunch.

Sometimes I go for a walk or days I'm busy I even just go out to the stairwell to get away.

    Loads of options.

The Bakehouse on the quays do baked potatoes - ask for without dressing on the side salad. They are also in CHQ, along with Seven Wonders who do lovely salads.
Lemon Jelly for omelettes. As do Dollard & Co. and Patisserie Valerie (in Debenhams).
Nando's is a good SW option.

Nope, its literally a kitchenette in the corner of the office, no seating or anything. without getting into specifics, lets just say its not the nicest part of the city center and there are a lot of drug addicts roaming around outside so nowhere really to linger. I'm walking distance to temple bar/dame street and the jervis center area so thats mostly where I've been headed.

Thanks, Dollard and Co is actually not far so that might work for me - I've been avoiding it because the pizzas in the window look too delicious, but if theres a good salad bar or other healthy choices then its worth a look :)

You can always bring your own lunch from home, and have it in the food court in Jervis. I see people doing this all the time up there, and I have done it myself before also.

Our kitchen is kinda the same, but I just make my lunches at home, heat them in the microwave and then eat at my desk. I try go for a walk after it just so I'm not just at my desk the whole day and it's good to get out of the office, but it just means I have a better handle on what I have for lunch without the urge to go out and buy bad foods, and I'm saving money doing it too.

Just don't microwave any fish dishes. Your co-workers will hate you, and rightfully so. I know because of a previous employee who used to work here. Bleurgh...

I missed last weeks weigh in, and went on a bit of a seefood diet... I have literally eaten everything I could see. I’m cross with myself, it’s such a waste of time and money. Anyone would think I didn’t really need to lose weight!
Going to bite the bullet this morning and head back though,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,889 ✭✭✭SozBbz

Thanks everyone! I guess I'll just have to get better at my batch prep and maybe invest in better tupperware so I've no excuses! Any suggestions on good, filling, speedy lunches most welcome!
I'm also going for my weighin tonight (first week done!) so I'm a bit nervous after the panini incident of yesterday and I probably went slightly over my syns on sunday (I didnt eat anything bad, just too much of low syn things) but yesterday evening was on plan, i even skipped my nightly dairy milk little bar (5syns) and just had some grapefruit before bed. I was defintiely 100% on plan every other day and even abstained from alcohol all weekend so I'm hoping that will have made a difference.
I came to work with my overnight oats and an orange and fiber one bar for later so I'm feeling well prepared. I just have to navigate lunch safely and hopefully I'll see a loss tonight! I badly want to have a good first week in the hopes that it will help wtih my motivaton to stick to it and at least get this 1stone off that I'd regained. I've set my target at another stone from that. So....2 stone to target, seems doable!

I was down a pound and a half yesterday at my weigh in. I'm getting a bit stressed because I've a mad 10 weeks ahead. A few reunions, hen party, 2 weeks holiday in Indonesia a 60th. I know I can be 100% on plan during the week and on weekends where I have nothing on but like a lot of people it's occasions that kill me. Mostly the alcohol part.
For the past few weeks I've been going to the gym 6 days a week and I'm loving it. (I have to do this to strengthen my back muscles as I completely put my back out last year).
I'm not seeing much difference on the scales but I'm definitely losing inches and toning up. I've been taking measurements every few weeks since I started. In my first 3 weeks I only lost half a pound but I lost 2 inches on my waist which was fantastic!

A bit cheesed off at today's weigh-in, I've had what I'd describe as a perfect run (used less than 10 syns for the *entire* week, sometimes not using my HeB) and expected it to show on the scales - but it was a maintain. Counsellor says I ate too little carbs/fat and was in starvation mode. Also that 5-15 each day is factored in, so i was actually off-plan. Boo! She recommended I have 10 syns each day (I'm a guy) and try use it on things with some kind of nutritional value. So I went home and had some juicy sausages... That's great to have more syns but overall I'm a bit demoralised. i was hoping to get my 3.5 stone today, instead i got a big duckegg. i wonder how many syns that would be 😂

You guys ever have weeks where you do really stick to the plan and it doesnt show on the scales?

I was down a half, expected it to be more, but hopefully it will show next week
