there's only so many jobs to go around, there's always going to be unemployed people. another thing that seems to pass a lot of people by

I'm in recruitment and have 6 entry level jobs in Dublin that I am having to use my resourcer for. These are no real experience needed jobs that pay 22-28k. Plenty of jobs at the moment

That's what I meant: two years ago and no progress since. It doesn't commit to full funding either but it does mention means testing. What if it ends up penalising working couples for working again, like medical cards etc?

    Rubbish.

I heard it reported on the radio today that the meat processing industry will have to import 500 workers to meet demand.

Like the company in Killdare a few years back that advertised for jobs in Poland but not in Killdare? As I said, if you are Irish or British, you don't stand a chance.

That's just the figure for people in emergency accommodation. It doesn't include rough sleepers or people kipping on a sofa.

Or people returning to live with parents because they can't afford the rent

would you rather they came over and went on benefits? it's freedom of movement, and it doesn't contradict my point that there's only so many jobs to go around. i thought you'd welcome the Polish work ethic.

I think you need to read my post again.

You said there are not enough jobs and I pointed out that Polish people are able to find work, I'm not really sure how you didn't get the point I was making but nevermind.

When it comes to “everybody” getting a job, don’t forget that a percentage of the population (less than 10) don’t have the cognitive ability to execute basic tasks. If our industries advance so much that 90% isn’t enough people then we rely on immigrants.

    And 2 million homeless.

We have 10,000 here and people loose their minds.

    Once again 2 million.

Where are you getting those figures because it's not anywhere near tally with what a quick google search shows - more like .75%

I don't believe this one would work regardless of how many jobs are available.

what i said/meant was that every country has unemployment, and there's no such thing as a country where every able-bodied person has a job available for them. maybe if you closed the borders and got strict about it, but it doesn't work that way.

And Canada has a population of 37 million so its not even a like for like comparison .

If you read back on the post I commented on, they asked which utopian country had ticked all of the list they mentioned
Homelessness was not one of them
    So my answer was correct

    Hold on.

Ireland has 10,000 homeless with a population of 5 million.

Canada has a population of 37 million and how many homeless?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,147 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Does being homeless mean being in temporary accommodation or in an hotel now?
Very few real homeless people in this country and I mean people actually living on the street.
If you refuse accommodation then you shouldn't be counted as homeless - you made a lifestyle choice
And I know - I am not counting people refusing to go into drug and alcohol fueled hostels.

Even with your exaggerated figures the argument is null and void because the two countries are very similar in the percentages

Not 2 million , you just made up that amount

So Canada isn’t a utopia compared to Ireland

    Yes 200,000 my bad.

But still more when compared to Ireland and population ratio.

Its normally accounted for. You will never have full employment so generally around 3% of the population are unemployed due to ill health, disability or just plain lazy.
The problem here is she's a member of the welfare culture who feel they are entitled to get everything for free and will engage in any manner to get it whether by pulling the above stunt or engaging in criminal behaviour.
She's getting 55K a year tax free into her hand. She's going out on the piss, taking sunbed sessions while her husband is in jail for criminal behaviour which we again are paying for. All in all this family is probably costing taxpayers the bones of 150k a year (around 100k for her husband).
There is no way you can argue that this women is not being supported.
She is being supported far beyond any taxpayer in this country.

It is quite sad though, that people are angrier at her than they are at the government's deliberate and ideologically-driven failure to do anything about the homeless crisis.

The government are a disgrace on this issue.
But I think people are angry at someone who is blatantly trying to cutely skip the queue and may not be as deserving as she is making out.
    She refused accomodation already apparently.
She's had 6+ kids despite patently not able to provide for them.
    That's just irresponsibility.
Hard-working, decent people are rightly outraged.
