Well there has to be some sense in that page - I respectfully withdraw!

I'm copying that Home Economics page and sticking it on the kitchen door for Mrs Tayto to read. Great stuff.

That type of chauvinistic and sexist treatment of women has no place in modern society. Apalling.
I know , every time you open the papers since that film was released you have the p...ks who beat women saying it was because of watching '' the quiet man '' .. ''it was the the QUIET MAN thats what MADE ME DO IT JUDGE''

Virtue-signalling horseshit. Even in 1952 that line was satirical and whimsical, and quite obviously so. Indeed Maureen O'Hara would take the aforementioned stick off you and break it off your arse, and no better gal! What on Earth happened to nuance and humour?? :pac:

It's a movie made in 1952, not last year. And like was said, it's tongue-in-cheek.

There's not enough lols for this.

It's misogynist filth and has no place in today's society. It's abhorrent.

    It wasn't made 'today'.

Don't watch the film then, it's that easy.

But what about all the young impressionable minds who will watch it and be made think it's ok to hit women with sticks?

It's all well and good having a laugh and a joke about it but you are only pouring petrol on the fires of misogyny and sexism in society. Shameful.

You should probably concern yourself more with the lyrics of various rap ensembles and artists. I suggest buying a new pair of rosary beads are you are guaranteed to wear your current ones out.

every where you look in today's society there is violence . Its all over the paper , tv , social media and video games . If young impressionable minds are happy to watch films like the quiet man i'd say we would have half the problems we have today

To quote a post of mine on another thread to a similar poster to you:

I am a strong woman, my mother an equally strong woman. My great grandmother a legend in the family for raising six children on a Six Counties farm when widowed in her 20s in 1890.

I guarantee you come near any of us with any kind of stick and you'll be making an appointment with a proctologist or general surgeon to have it removed. Depending on how far it went it. No white knights on chargers needed.

Women are NOT delicate flowers. We do NOT need that kind of "protection". We don't need women (and their achingly progressive suitors) to tell us that some film from nearly 70 years ago and set nearly 30 before that is "wrong".

We want our daughters brought up to believe they are equal. In EVERY sense. Part of that is being able to stand up for yourself and knowing the difference between an admittedly excellent film from the 50s and current behaviours and sensibilities.

Misogyny and misandry are two identical sides of the same pathetic coin. Neither comes out covered in glory but yet one is laughed off.

She was married at 18 and had two sets of twins. Was there a point there ?

Bit sexist of you to assume what you did eh ? Bordering on slut-shaming.
