I have two dashcams already. One pointing out the rear window and one pointing out the front window.

I am considering a third one, mounted beside the rear view mirror pointing at the driver (i.e., me). This will show my observation and if a car hits me from the side.

Will a third one make the car strain starting up? Is it bad for the battery or the alternator?

If installed appropriately - no, not at all. :)

I have the newest Garmin Drive assist satnav/dashcam and it died. Got a refurbished on as a replacement and the exact same happened. Turns out my 64gig memory card from my GoPro was corrupting them.

Currently using it without a card whilst I wait for a brand new 16gig card to arrive.

    Update.

The card was corrupting the SatNav/DashCam unit. New card works fine.

    Hi all,
I am considering buying a dual dash cam, for front and rear view, and I am thinking of a mini0906 with GPS.
Any comment on this, or advice on something else?
The drawback of this model is that it lacks the WiFi. How is WiFi useful in these devices? Do I really need it?
    Thanks in advance!

Just wondering is there enough battery for the 24-hour monitoring . Is this an internal battery ?

I presume wifi is handy for extracting the files rather than messing with the card . Mine has no wifi , but next one will .

    Why should I need a 24-hour monitoring?
I think it has an internal battery, a capacitor I guess, with some minutes of charge to work without power supply.
I also have a mini0801 which does have an internal battery and when the battery is new and fully charged, the cam can run without main supply for several minutes, more than 30 minutes for sure.

I not saying you need 24-hour monitoring . just mentioned it because it is a feature of the mini0906.

WiFi is great for downloading footage (both high and low res) from the cam directly to your phone, handy if you were a witness to something not involving you, you could d/l fairly quick and pass on the video with airdrop or whatsapp etc, I’ve used it a few times, I think it is a handy tool, also can be used to view video direct from the camera on your phone without the need of removing the SD card. I’m using a nextbase 412GW

Thinking of getting a couple of dashcams for the car (front and rear facing unless one can do both).

I have a 2013 Honda civic and it has side airbags in those pillars that run down the side of the windscreen so I can't really mess with them to hide the wire from the camera.

Can I get dashcams that don't have wires that are rechargeable or something or am I better sticking to those that plug into the cigarette lighter etc?

Rechargeable cams would be nice for the short trips i make. But i guess they would become way too heavy when sticking a battery pack in them.
I have been playing with the idea to run my cam from a powerbank but still ended up using the cable and my infamous cable management.

Only cam i know who can do both:

Not a problem with wiring dashcams where in-pillars airbags are present. 2 options - use gap between pillar and dash + stuff the wire between trim and windscreen or remove pillar trim. All the cars I wired cams into had pillar trims separate, and airbags underneath affixed to pillars. That obviously does not mean ALL the cars are built the same way, so a bit more research as well as extreme caution is highly recommended. ;)
