Seems a lot of links to Vidal now. He's been left out of Bayern preseason trip

Maybe that Thiago, Vidal and Lewandowski rumour wasn't wrong....

An aged, combative midfielder from Bayern you say?

    What could possibly go wrong!

Maguire = Phil Jones 2.0 IMO

Yep, replacing Smalling or Jones with McGuire is the equivalent of me replacing my 2010 Ford Focus with a 2011 model, but paying the price of a 182 Audi A6

No. I really dislike the Focus as it is. :(

I'd rather start the season with Bailly and Lindelof as first choice than spend any cash on Maguire.
Let them sink or swim but they both better players than Maguire although both do have a few issues that need sorting out.

I really don't get why Sanchez doesn't just play RW he did it at barca and initially at arsenal. I think he is far better from the right then on the left where he continually checks back and plays those chipped crosses into the box. I think Sanchez as a RW would be up there with the best in the league and would comfortably get 15+ league goals.
I have a feeling his ego really inflated at Arsenal and he began to believe that he was among the Messi and Ronaldos rather than the Bale or Suarezs(both of whom were probably even that level above him. He feels he's best on the LW so that's where he plays with no tactical responsibility it seems. He was working harder than everyone there and scoring a good percentage of their goals as part of a decent team atmosphere but it seemed the last 2 seasons it became more about the individual to him while it all crumbled around him at Arsenal. He tried to distance himself rather than take any ownership for his own below par performances. This is a big season for him.

    Yep its def that.

Its the very same with someone like bale. Started lb and then left wing. Theres no way he would be playing there now.

Play your best players in their best positions

If we had the 99 or 08 teams going into this season where would you expect them to finish

I would be super wary of buying an unwanted player from Bayern. They seem to be really good at offloading at the right time....

I remember when we had a knack for that (exception Jaap Stam)

The comparison to Schwi is fair, BUT out centre mid is actually in a far better condition now that we could possibly take the risk this time.

If we got Vidal, and he sucked, well he's an expensive bench player but we still have a top tier midfield (imo) with Pogba, Fred and Matic.

On the other hand, he was someone who really brought out a lot of he bets from Pogba back at Juve, so maybe he'd facilitate Pogba some (more) freedom?

We've 14 days. We can't afford to waste a week chasing/completing Vidal deal. We have far more essential maintenance required.

We should probably be getting word from Norwood/Stone before the weekend if we are doing anything.

Get LB,CB and RW sorted (I dont think that all 3 will happen) then anything else is a bonus.

Vidal would still offer United plenty for a few seasons but cm isn't a priority imo.

More than one person works in the transfer department. We could be perusing Vidal AND the others too.

Mind, this is presuming we are in for Vidal. Could be we are being used to get him a bigger contract at Inter

    Matic
    Young - Bailly - Lindelof - Valencia

Could be writen as well as
    Sanchez - Lukaku
    Pogba
    Young - Fred - Vidal - Val
    Matic
    Bailly - Lindelof

I feel if we are playing a diamond we will surely need an upgrade on the FB though

Its actually ridiculous. People talking about buying defenders to replace Jones and Smalling when its already been done, we have spent around £75 million on two players who are sitting there with barely 50 appearances between them.

The club has 5 young centre backs there who have all showed promise at one stage or another, surely we can get some partnership worth a damn going at some point?

**** Maguire, give Bailly and Lindelof their shot and focus on the positions that even blind dogs dumped in a hole can see need addressing first.

    And when Bailly gets hurt?

Team of 99 had best midfield in premier league history.

Team of 08 had best player in history.

Both teams imo would win the league

    Whats your point?

In an ideal world, we'd go into the season with Bailly/Lindelof, and neither would miss a game.

When one does, and inevitable Bailly will miss a few weeks, or if Lindelof is out of form for a stretch, we are back to having one of the chuckle brothers back in. Heaven forbid both need to miss games. Plus, none of our five options seem to be much of a commander of the box.

We don't just need two CBs we trust, we could do with a more commanding centre back too to become our third trusted CB.

That's not to say 60m on mAguirre is the answer, mind. But trying to downplay our need for a third super solid cb player is glossing over the issues that exist there.

RMC Sport linking us to a 35m deal for Mina now.

In an ideal world, phil jones would stay fit for the entire season but we all know thats not gonna happen

Are people happy to start the season with Lindelof as first choice CB? I’d rate his first season a 5/10 on a generous day.

What about when Lukaku or Sanchez are out?

Don't get me wrong, outside of midfield, our depth all over the field is dodgy, and I'd be advocating for a RW first and foremost on the grounds that we don't really have one.

Point is that our center back options are far from sorted just cause we have Bailly and Lindelof. And Bailly especially has been very injury prone, compared to the two you mentioned.
