Malcolm reported to have completed the move to Barcelona for €40 million.
That's Willian off their shopping list, the crazy £70 million valuation obviously too much.

I agree. But I always fall into this argument.

On paper I see no reason why we can't set up our team to attack and alleviate pressure on our defence. Yes we have DDG for doing that but we have the forward players capable of doing it too in my mind.

Comparing our regular squads in 4-3-3:
    Aguero - Lukaku
    Sane - Sanchez
    Sterling - Mata
    De Bruyne - Pogba
    Fernandinho - Matic
    Silva - Herrera

For me, on paper, we had the quality to match them. Difference was they were far more prepared/organised (used same formation throughout season), drilled in tactically and players performed to their potential. Mixture of reasons.

Maybe I'm blind here but quality wise it's there for us. Now add Fred to that list and hopefully another RW and again, going into this season I see no reason we shouldn't be able to compete with them talent wise.

It will come down to the setup and individual performances.

Aguero as a striker is lethal, much better than lukaku.

Silva is/has been one of the best players in the league last 5-10 years. Miles better than herrera

Sterlings goals and pace make him a much bigger threat than mata

Sanchez is prob better than sane but not by much

Pogba is a better player than de bruyne but de bruyne is playing much better.

    Matic prob better than fernandinho

Our defence sits too deep though and invites pressure on them. If we attacked as a unit we wouldnt be caught out as much at the back

Ismaila Saar, Ante Rebic, Allan Saint-Maximin and Malcom are under consideration for the right wing position. [Duncan Castles]

Rebic - meh, one decent season. average player.
    MAximin -no idea.
Malcom - Barcelona just signed him.
Never heard of Sarr - so checked him out on whoscrored:

    - Weaknesses
Holding on to the ball - Very Weak
    Passing - Weak
    Crossing - Weak
    Finishing - Weak
    Defensive contribution - Weak

    Cool.

Saint-Maximin makes no sense in my eyes. Can't even see why we would be linked.

Nice only bought him last season off Monaco, he was one of their best players alright but still only 21. I don't see us moving for another young player who may come good down the line, rather than going for a finished product.

Would feel we'd have gone for Malcom if we were going that route.

Unless we sign Bale questions need to be asked why we weren't in for Mahrez or Malcom.

Rebic had a decent WC but wouldn't be to level we'd need I'd say.

Did Bale have his meeting with the Madrid president/ coach yet?

Yeah - had it last week, first day he was back in pre-season. Reported to be told he'd be an important first team player.

With Real not having signed a replacement for Ronaldo, it is probably true this time.

Sars, sometimes deadly but not in this case so.

    Bring Zaha back.

A more mature person than when we had him - progressed a lot too. One of the better wingers in the league.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,231 ✭✭✭Talisman

City won the league by a record margin with Fabian Delph at left back and Otamendi and Stones as their main CBs. We sort out our midfield, which hopefully the signing of Fred will do and get in someone on the RW and I've no issues with our defence.
There's a big difference in approach when teams faced Man City by comparison to the other top teams in the league. Very few teams opted to attack Man City and expose the weaknesses in their defence.

Rebic is extremely workmanlike and not a lot else.

he frustrated the shít out of me at the World Cup. lost the ball regularly and loves a foul.

I'd say Mahrez had an agreement with City from a while back.

You were never getting Malcom by the looks of it. unless you were planning on massively overspending on him. Barca went big on him in the end.

    Overrated in my eyes

According to today's sun (I know,I know) barca, juve and some premier league teams are interested in sarr but Rennes want 50 million for him.

There really seems to be very little actually decent RW players out there at the moment that could actually be gettable. I think it's looking like Willian or Bale (slim chance) but if we get neither of those I can see us starting off the season with Mata/lingard as RW sadly

I mean for Frankfurt/Fiorentina.. pretty sure he plays predominantly on the left..

Himself and Perisic interchange like crazy for Croatia so they played on both sides really for Croatia

40m seems like a decent deal for all parties, I wonder was there any real interest from United.

Barca have Dembele and Malcolm for right wing now ,United still stuck with no one to do a proper job there.

Rebic is absolutely bang average. Be nearly as disappointing as signing Maguire.

Just look at City, they have a supreme talent in Sane and then buy Mahrez,2 great wise men yet United have lads that prefer to play central and stick them out there. Either that or Valencia who can't cross a ball to save his life.

Maguire = Phil Jones 2.0 IMO

If they sign one more, they would have 3 wise men :)

Seems a lot of links to Vidal now. He's been left out of Bayern preseason trip

Maybe that Thiago, Vidal and Lewandowski rumour wasn't wrong....

I really don't get why Sanchez doesn't just play RW he did it at barca and initially at arsenal. I think he is far better from the right then on the left where he continually checks back and plays those chipped crosses into the box. I think Sanchez as a RW would be up there with the best in the league and would comfortably get 15+ league goals.

As with Bonucci and Boateng, I'd be steering well clear of Vidal.

Bayern have a wealth of midfielders and know his best years are past now so want to move him on. Not even mentioning the issues he always seems to bring with him but how many knee surgeries is this now?

I can't help but feel Bayern have done this to us before either and sold us a dud ;)
