So, you're saying that no cyclists have participated in the thread? I know cyclists are blinkered and can only see motorists as the bad guys, but I'm pretty sure Andy, the guy with the throbbing vein, is a cyclist. Is he an anti cyclist cyclist? :D

Quick look at the top ten posters in the thread there. That group has 2,962 posts in the motoring forum, 2449 of which are from one poster.

That same group has 12,430 posts in the cycling forum (not counting its subforums).

I'd say cycling evangelists MIGHT be drawn to engage in threads like this a bit.

Since you bring the subject up. What's the deal with cyclists being allowed to race on open public roads? We've probably all seen the horse incident, that didn't look very safe. Public roads shouldn't be used to race on.

Deal is it's allowed in most of the country

Boards but mostly I meant you. Considering your opinion of women in SUVs I am pretty sure you are not one of them.

I'm honestly fairly confused about what I am supposed to be one of or not one of. Are you sure I'm not a male professional? Or sure I'm not a woman? Or sure I'm not an SUV?

Either way, your claim about 'cyclists mostly male professionals' doesn't stand up. I've spent a fair bit of time on the line with I Bike Dublin over the past year, and you get a very clear first-hand view of the diversity of the cycling population - young and old, Irish and non-Irish, male and female etc.
Well I never drive in traffic, except when behind a cyclist. So you're probably right for once. If I have to go near town I take public transport. A city is no place for a car. They should be banned and alternative transport made available.

So you never drive into or through any of those busy towns in the sunny south-east that are full of Dub commuters or Dub holiday-makers in the summer?

You cant beat someone mentioning "cyclist" to get all the motorists out................. So predictable.

Same happens on thejournal - article about another 2 or 3 killed in another car 'accident' gets five or ten comments - article about anything to do with cyclist or cycling gets 200 or 300 comments, mostly of the same fallacious quality of the most of the posts here.
in studies done in london and canada, it was found the motorist was to blame in the majority of KSIs.
And Adelaide, Australia. And Florida, USA. There's a bit of a trend here.

3-4 people killed by motorists on our roads each week, and you're focused on cyclists and horses. You're looking in the wrong place.

Because other road users don't act the dick in the same numbers cyclists do..

The RSA Speed Survey showing that 82% of motorists break speed limits suggest otherwise.
The Aviva survey showing that Irish drivers are 2nd worst in Europe for mobile phone abuse suggests otherwise.
The Luas red light camera showing that 88% of red light jumpers were motorists suggests otherwise.
The killing of 3-4 people each week on our roads by motorists suggests otherwise.

    But yeah, bloody cyclists.

Well exactly, it's common sense. I'm saying it's not that motorists flock to and drive the thread because they just can't pass up an opportunity to slam cyclists as was claimed.

Horses! on public roads? it's a disgrace! they should have to do a test, pay tax and insurance before one hoof hits tarmac!

road racing rules are explicit that you are still beholden to road traffic law when on open roads.
remember, bikes will probably still be going slower than cars on those same roads.

Pfft. We never have traffic in the sunny south east! That's part of the reason I no longer live in Dublin. Far too many entitled, selfish road users there these days. Ah, I remember the ould days... :D

Dub holiday makers are the burden we must bear for the Summer months. Affectionately known as "bathers" :D

Pontificating? Was there anything factually wrong in any of my posts here?

Why don't you answer the ****ing question.
    a) because someone else had already answered it, and
    b) because it's an attempt to distract from the real dangers on the road - the motorists who kill 3 or 4 people each week on the roads.

I agree it would be better if they closed the road off and set up detours. The locals from each area should have the say in which they prefer.

You have noticed a little bit of two-way traffic on the thread, right?

So instead of answering the question you thought another rant about motorists was in order ... You're definitely on the wind up.
Have you any comment on the cyclists who nearly took out that horse or maybe you can find a way to blame a motorist for it!!

'bike nonsense' is that what they call road safety in Ireland these days?

When you knock over a cyclist no Court will ever find in favour of a motorist. Guaranteed.

    Road safety my hole.
I always find it amazing how any foreigners on a cycling holiday can cycle one abreast without any complaints but Irish cyclists are incapable of it. Not saying it’s only cyclists but it’s all Irish..this whole “me fein” attitude is all through our society so is it any surprise that we see selfish assholes on roads whether on a bike, car, tractor or truck.

I have, that ground was covered by the post I was responding to though. And, though there is two way traffic, the majority of people most engaged with the thread are cyclists, not motorists having a go at cyclists.

The question was already answered. It wasn't something I know much about as I'm not involved in road races in any way. So would it really have helped if I repeated an answer on something I know nothing about?

Is that the UK cyclist/horse incident from a few weeks back that you're talking about? Did you see the other video on the rider's Facebook page showing the car that nearly took her/her horse out?

I'm still confused about how anyone can detect the nationality of cyclists when driving past them. Is there some trick to this that I'm missing?

Probably because the thread is in After Hours. The cycling forum is generally a no-go for motorists, in my experience. Any voice that isn't rabidly supportive of cycling is quickly silenced. I tried once: I asked a simple question on a safety issue and was lambasted with the usual pithy, condescending replies. You guys are so highly strung it's funny.

Relax a bit, it's After Hours. You don't need to be so uptight here. :D

Once again deflecting the question and bringing up motorists. You are a bleeding nutcase :)

So, a cyclist driving a car is a motorist and a cyclist riding a bike isn't a cyclist, but a triathlete. This is getting conflustering. :D

That's our Andrew in a nutshell.

Lads it's been a blast. I'm off to annoy some bathers, I'll see you all later.

Keep an eye on Andy for me will you. I'm worried about him. :p

    It’s very easy really.
Foreign= Courteous cyclists in single orderly file, slim, tanned, good looking.

Irish= minimum of 2 abreast preferably 3 abreast.
Rude , obnoxious , fat, sunburnt etc etc

Seriously though, why didn't her video showing the car very nearly taking her out, which has far more potential for serious damage to her and her horse, get top billing on all the websites and FB pages over the following week? What is it about 'dangerous cyclists' that attracts such drooling vehemence?

We both know that your exaggerated story about your visit to the cycling forum isn't true, but if you'd like to share details of what username you were using at that time, we can all take a look and come to our own opinions on that incident.
I have, that ground was covered by the post I was responding to though. And, though there is two way traffic, the majority of people most engaged with the thread are cyclists, not motorists having a go at cyclists.
And what's the problem with that - are you feeling a little outnumbered or overwhelmed?
