Getting immune to the killing of people

    Box sets/binge watching shows

"What are you watching?" being the question of choice, the assumption being that everybody is in the middle of some Netflix series or re watching the sopranos.

"I'm watching X, but I'm just on the nth season, not sure if I'll stick with it" is a good response.

"Oh you so should, it drags a bit for season n and into season n+1, but it really picks up in season n+2" - cheers, sure I'll just sacrifice another 30 hours of my life there in the hope that eventually I will be entertained

Basically everybody is watching something, talking about watching things then talking about what they will be watching next until we all die.

I have an online gaming account and I've gambled heavily. But I have willpower so I only gamble with money I can afford. I've not slipped to bankruptcy

Has it been worth it? Can you say gambling is a good way to spend money? Genuine question like. I play poker with mates once or twice a year but 'proper' gambling ie putting heavy bets on horses and other sports I find really strange.

There's a guy in work who plays slot machines in the casino. Spends all night and has confided in some people that there are nights he's chasing losses of 1000's.... on poxy slot machines.... Wifes left him, he's being fired from his job cos he's a mess....

Well in a strange way keeping fit. Now I know this can be a good thing but some people take it to an extreme. Regarding amount of time spent in the gym, diet, supplements, steroids.

I occasionally, once every couple of months, venture out to Tramore and have a little go on the slot machines. I might spend €10, €20 if I'm being wild. When I'm out there, I always see the same people, stressed out, nail biting, storming off in a huff when things aren't going their way, telling their "friends" that they're leaving and 10 minutes later, they come back in for more. One thing I really don't agree with and I think is so dangerous, is certain machines accepting cards so the person gambling doesn't even need to get up from the machine to get cash. The majority of the people I see out there are also smokers so they have 2 addictions. It's scary. I feel so free being able to spend/lose/win on my €10 or €20 and go home and not have a second thought about it.

Celebs and political correctness are the latest addictions.
It seems Ireland has finally woken up to its old addictions of booze, fags and sausages. Mysoginism is also in the firing line for obliteration.

Can you name a few new addictions that Ireland hasn't yet woken up to?

Certainly hasn't woken up to it's addiction to booze. Take a trip into any A&E on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night.

Where did I say that? 40% of the admissions in Dublin. Far too high. Think of the amount of resources (beds, staff etc) that takes up.

I'm just back from spending 5 days in London and they are no where close to the obession that Irish people have with their phones and having it stuck to their hands 24/7. Likewise on the continent.

Yep, thought that craze died with the Celtic tiger but it is back in anger now. 181 and 182 Tucsons, Dusters etc all round the place.

All those SUVs/pretend 4WDs are rather ugly, with an appearance of a squashed beetle. I don't get what people see in them.

'Duster' being a particularly stupid name for a car.

I think Dacias are for people who want the 182 badge, but don’t actually have much money. Fur coat and no knickers.

Well, sorry, but let me inform you that most car owners do not own their cars, but the financing company does.

At least we have paid for our brand new Duster in cash, and also for the 2015 Nissan Pulsar we own. We have NO financing. And we are also not keeping up appearances.
