Ireland's New Addictions

It seems Ireland has finally woken up to its old addictions of booze, fags and sausages. Mysoginism is also in the firing line for obliteration.

Can you name a few new addictions that Ireland hasn't yet woken up to?

Stealing my neighbours turnips from his field and making delicious turnip soup. Tell me honestly, who isn't addicted to turnip soup? Especially free turnip soup made from stolen turnips.
And turnip juice as well. Tell me honestly, who isn't addicted to turnip juice? Especially free turnip juice made from stolen turnips.
Oh how I love turnips. Especially on Saturday mornings.

I wish people would stop injecting sausages. Disgusting to see in public.

Work is 24/7 now for most people, through social media as emails Facebook etc even when off on holidays.. We are addicted to it and not by choice

Slating football teams that get to the semi finals of tournaments despite not actually qualifying said tournament in the first place.

    And money.

(Not sure if either of these are "new", but it would depend on what kind of time frame we're talking about)

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Indeed, whilst I know they're the same thing but gambling apps are the worst. Before you had to go to a computer or a bookies now you carry it around with you 24/7. The adverts as well... have a cheeky punt on the app when you're out with the lads. Sick parasites.

    + 1

You forgot Turnip pizza. Always ask for extra turnip. Gorging yourself on the sumptuousness. Juiced and frozen turning juice into ice pack cubes and melted over a good friends nipples first thing in the morning.

We are all kind of fcuked with the water shortage it’s looking like a bleak harvest this year. Ah yeah turnip, the poppy of Ireland

I’m up to make a cheeky turnip and cheese toastie now

I was shocked to see on the Lotto ap you can play digital scratch cards !
    All cash / match 3 at 2 euro a pop !

Word of advice .... never create any online gaming account ever

Even for the lotto. It’s a slippery slope to bankrupcy

I occasionally do the lotto but it has to be from a shop no matter how
    Big the prize

    Stay safe out there people,

    Stay solvent

and keep the food on the table

NO to online gambling or any sort

    Thanks

I have an online gaming account and I've gambled heavily. But I have willpower so I only gamble with money I can afford. I've not slipped to bankruptcy

Our new addiction is expecting someone else to do everything for us and then suing when we do something stupid that in other countries would get you laughed at while here it's a 6 figure sum.

    Box sets/binge watching shows

"What are you watching?" being the question of choice, the assumption being that everybody is in the middle of some Netflix series or re watching the sopranos.

"I'm watching X, but I'm just on the nth season, not sure if I'll stick with it" is a good response.

"Oh you so should, it drags a bit for season n and into season n+1, but it really picks up in season n+2" - cheers, sure I'll just sacrifice another 30 hours of my life there in the hope that eventually I will be entertained

Basically everybody is watching something, talking about watching things then talking about what they will be watching next until we all die.

Has it been worth it? Can you say gambling is a good way to spend money? Genuine question like. I play poker with mates once or twice a year but 'proper' gambling ie putting heavy bets on horses and other sports I find really strange.

There's a guy in work who plays slot machines in the casino. Spends all night and has confided in some people that there are nights he's chasing losses of 1000's.... on poxy slot machines.... Wifes left him, he's being fired from his job cos he's a mess....

Well in a strange way keeping fit. Now I know this can be a good thing but some people take it to an extreme. Regarding amount of time spent in the gym, diet, supplements, steroids.

I occasionally, once every couple of months, venture out to Tramore and have a little go on the slot machines. I might spend €10, €20 if I'm being wild. When I'm out there, I always see the same people, stressed out, nail biting, storming off in a huff when things aren't going their way, telling their "friends" that they're leaving and 10 minutes later, they come back in for more. One thing I really don't agree with and I think is so dangerous, is certain machines accepting cards so the person gambling doesn't even need to get up from the machine to get cash. The majority of the people I see out there are also smokers so they have 2 addictions. It's scary. I feel so free being able to spend/lose/win on my €10 or €20 and go home and not have a second thought about it.

Certainly hasn't woken up to it's addiction to booze. Take a trip into any A&E on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night.

Where did I say that? 40% of the admissions in Dublin. Far too high. Think of the amount of resources (beds, staff etc) that takes up.

I'm just back from spending 5 days in London and they are no where close to the obession that Irish people have with their phones and having it stuck to their hands 24/7. Likewise on the continent.
