The maths don't add up, both on time it would take in a day to drink 30 pints and money it would take to buy them each day and sustain an income to continue doing it.

Plenty of pints in a few acres of land sold to a property developer. I don't think these guys are relying on 9-5's to keep them hydrated.

Ah, Gai-Jin - you ask me to expose the soul of Old Japan. You might as well ask me to plunge the wakizashi into my own belly.

A proper badge of honour to be referred to as a Pintman.

The audio clip doesn't make sense, he's a Dublin pintman and the audio clip is clearly someone with a Kerry/South West accent.

Ireland has seen a steady decline in alcohol consumption for years now,

Ireland may have alcoholics, but there is no need to suggest we are a nation of them.

    No, everyone's snorting instead.

Found it online. Never heard of this great man till today, I've spent the last two hours howling laughing about it, What a man...

Have a read of the above, the paragraph under "30 Pints or More a Day" has me paralytic from laughing. Two of the richest things Ireland has are a sense of humour and a superhuman ability for alcohol, long may they last...

I don't think Paddy Losty was unemployed. As far as I know he worked in the livestock trade, mostly in the Smithfield area.

On the Dublin Inquirer there was an article done about the Paddy Losty phenomenon, and one of his grandchildren mentions that he worked in the cattle trade. He was most certainly not in the pub every day drinking 30 pints. Also, it was 'up to 30 pints a day', so there's a bit of a clue in there. Ask any Eircom user if 'Up to 100 mb' means you always get that speed.

Time for the country to adjust their attitude to alcohol and grow up.

Actually we have changed a lot already. I remember when I first started working and half the staff didn't show up on a Monday because they were too hungover. That's not the case now. Young lads nowadays are more interested in drinking protein shakes than pints of lager.

Feck that. We should all go out training tonight. We have to get our title back.

I was on the Tipperary pint drinking team back in '11.

Got squzeed out in the semis by KK Smithwicks ale men. Whole thing was rigged imo. We were playing away.

It came down to a shot shootout and one of our boys puked all over his shirt.

God dam puss cost our team big time kid.

I hear that. I was the East Limerick Heavyweight Full-Contact Kick-Pinting Cham-peen 1988 and 89. 1990 went pear-shaped when I got an attack of the Leons after three soft pints in a row and that fat bastard the Bullock Ryan from Ahane got an edge.

I don't know which is more pathetic, that an adult is bragging about everything he's going to drink, or the fact that he thinks it's normal to drink 8 pints on a night out. It's not fúcking normal. It's just not no matter how much of a "lad" you want to pretend to be.

Well in fairness 8 pints wouldn’t be normal for a night out, more normal for a quiet few pints after work. A night out would be a lot more than 8 pints, sure that’s only getting started.

There is nothing better than a good session absolutely nothing!!

8 pints after work? Presumably on a friday when you're not in the next day?

You must have a fair bit of practice put in, Nox. 8 pints would be my limit for a school night, and I’m not afraid of the stuff. Would you be feeling rough at all the next day after knocking back 12 pints on a Thursday night?
How’s your arsehole as well? I find drinking that much leads to very acidic bowel movements that leave the hoop red and raw.

I bought the book that featured Paddy Losty. It's a really great read giving some social history to this country that has essentially vanished.

Kind of sad how in thrall the country was to drink for so long. The publican ie. the local drug dealer was up there with the parish priest as the moral authority in the community.

Many many times I’ve been in work the next day after a lot more than 8 pints, 8 with work the next day would be grand.

Well that sort of what I meant, a few pints on a week night could be around 8. If it was a big midweek session could be more but normally a mid week few would be around the 6-8 pint mark.

As for the bowl, you can’t beat a Guinness s*ite I look forward to them!

Well you obviously don't have a job with a lot of responsibility. There's not a hope I would entertain an employee coming in after drinking to excess the night before work.
