Well, knowing a bit of the background to that appointment id say thats bs but its a common perception. He is steeped in Mayo football. Didnt do him any harm anyway.

Didn`t do him much good when he moved to stand in Galway a county he managed to AI success.

He's a top top manager but I don't believe there is any greater test of a manager's credentials than to manage the Mayo football team.Few managers would be willing to risk diminishing their legacy by failing in their sole purpose in the role.Succeed where so many have failed and deliver Sam.Anyway it's pipe dream stuff as Gavin isn't leaving his current role with Dublin any time soon and he's ultimately employed by Irish Aviation Authority which isn't decentralising to Mayo anytime soon.:pac:

Jim McGuinness did make mention in the past of possibly managing the Mayo team but I think it's clear from the IT article that he wouldn't now touch us with a bargepole as he sees a team in decline/transition.

Agree James Horan is likely to stay put in Westport as the curve is only going one way there with all the talent coming through.

I definitely believe James will manage Mayo again and TBF in spite of tactical errors I'd be delighted to see him come back.

Not too sure re the former joint managers at Mitchels, huge step up irrespective of the fact that Declan O Reilly has managed Mayo at minor level previously.

Horan is making alot of money now between coaching and punditry that it would make it very hard for him to go back to the Mayo job.

I think Horan got as far as he could. He had this team in their absolute peak against the bones of the current dublin team before they became the unstoppable force they are now. I think he is better managing a club like westport developing the next generation.

Iam hearing our u20s may be playing in croker next weekend...I was thinking it would be a double header in tullamore or portlaoise.

That would be a pain in the hole tbh
Assume it would be a triple header on the Sunday
    12pm throw in
    30 euro a ticket

Actually Kildare are playing Kerry in the other semi so if they are on in Croker that will be on the Sunday with our game on at 3pm on the Saturday

    Could be tempted !

The semi finals and final correspond with super 8 weekends so they may well be curtain raisers

Assuming Dublin have a super 8 game in Croker the third weekend
    They do
    Playing Roscommon
Can see the u20 final being on before that

    Next Saturday
That’s purely speculation based on a rumour it may be in Croker

    Agreed
That management team were very popular with that playing squad too

    Jesus no!

That one season aside, he hasn't really done it at county level despite being given plenty of opportunities.

We might as well sound out Banty if MM is being touted!

    I agree
Was only pointing out he was shafted at the time imo

The Hurling game is actually fixed for 1pm Sunday in Carrick according to the GAA website which makes absolutely no sense.

Great.Wasn't sure I'd be able to make a trip to Croker but that's handy enough.

Hopefully the weather won't break in the meantime.

Yep. On Morning Ireland earlier. Mutiny in the camp over player welfare. All the big guns have walked including Cora.

If the Mayo men can't offer the drama for the summer then the women will.

I wonder what the welfare issues were? Apparently a selector has walked as well.
