Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I wonder did a licensing issue come up and that's why they were removed from GameStop?

Gamestop seemed to have thrown them up as soon as they were announced, possibly working from the US template and, even then, from the press release.

Hopefully an updated entry will be incoming, and a solid price point.

That Tempest/Asteroids cab looks perfect, if I could get something like Gravitar on there as well it'd be even better!

Sambro are to be the distributer in Europe

    https://toyworldmag.co.uk/news/sambro-announces-distribution-deal-for-arcade1up/

Debenhams sell their stuff so maybe they might be in there as well

Interesting, wonder if gamestop will actually follow through or if they'll cancel and re-appear at some ridiculous price point. I can see the appeal for many, I'd be out though without a CRT...

I still mourn the day when your AES was almost mine. :(

Terraonion announced a NEOSD Pro a few days ago. Uses RAM and flash, so loading games to RAM will be much quicker.

I was in Symths head office and they have one of these in their reception. Looks like they got one in to evaluate it to see if they will stock it or not. As I had the young lad with me and it was powered off I didn't get to have a proper go at it, although my 3 year old poked at it enough!
My thoughts....it's low/small, as in very small and very low. It's almost like a bartop sitting on a fairly small base.
Height wise I'd say it came up to around my elbow.
Skerries earlier post/video link on size is important to note, the video below shows them and it's very easy to not notice but they are sitting on a high platform that makes them seem much higher.
    Link to video
    https://www.today.com/video/fourth-hour-guests-receive-a-hot-wheels-system-and-arcade-1up-game-1167493187563

Cab wise it does look well though, it was the Street fighter cab and art work wise it does look well. The stick/buttons are as you would expect, but each players stick/buttons seem very close together. So 2 adults playing will struggle with it.
It's does have a fairly poor looking on/off switch and another poor looking high/low volume switch that sits above the controls

    spares-and-parts-electric-guitar-switches-and-tips-switchcra-r6465-320px-320px.png

I did get a picture of it with the young fellow in front of it, I'll try to post that later

    Hahaha, you're a cruel cruel man o1s1n! :p

    *Laughs in Satan*

So what is the height of these like compared to a sit down cabinet like the atomiswave?

I think they're about 4 feet high if I remember correctly from the pictures on GameStop?

Btw, it would great if Smyths sold these, you might even get them for €350 hopefully.

They're $300 RRP in the states according to the presented in the video o1s1n posted.

That usually amounts to €350 after taxes etc..

I'd love to know what the internals are. Having one of these setup and having a side loader running would be great. Footprint wise I can see a nice corner in one of the rooms for one of these (purely for the young lad of course!)

Also cost wise Smyths usually do a 20% off everything in Autumn....although this usually excludes consoles and games, so may not apply.

As they come in flatpack form I wonder if they will be ikea quality flatpack (ie very easy) or use plenty of wood glue & screws try to fix

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 225 ✭✭frasr

managed to get a image of the machines on the platform
    tdy_winezoni_180222_2.jpg

Looks like they are about 2 foot off the ground

I couldn't see them coming with wood glue, that would be a real crappy way of assembling them.

Did you notice any nuts or bolts sticking out of the cabinet?

Some of the flat pack ones on eBay are like that and look crappy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 225 ✭✭frasr

It seemed to be fairly ok put together and not flimsy/shaky and didn't notice any visible screws/clips/bolts, but didn't get to spend time examining that side of it, too busy trying to stop the young fellow pulling pictures off the wall or taking pieces off the giant Lego Buzz Lightyear they have there

  • Registered Users Posts: 758 ✭✭✭fmul9798

I wonder if they'll sell an add on plinth/platform or something. I could see myself cobbling something together if I had one.

being offered on ebay for €530

    €491 here

    €550 here

    €640 here

so wildly different prices out there

Actually.... Gamestop are already selling cabs...

    Ahem...

Seriously, they have licenced cabs, two when I was in the store in Swords, for sale.

They actually have the Pacman and Space Invaders ones on sale, for €19.99 each.
Might pick up the Pacman one for certain, if they had the Galaxians one I'd snap it up!

The backlight bleed on those LCD's is pretty bad. But they do look ok ish.
I'm curious what the innards of the cab look like.

Yeah was just about to mention about the ribbon cable, it's a shame.

Surely it's just hdmi passed through a ribbon cable. I'm sure someone will figure out pinout and make an adapter for it.

Still a major inconvenience though, I can't see any other ports on the monitors box in the animation either.

I wonder if the emulation hardware is located in the control panel so or in that tiny box on the back of the LCD panel.

Also note that the Mortal Kombat cab is missing from the website and wasn't shown in the videos and pictures posted on social media.

Maybe they couldn't get the license for it or decided to ditch it.

yeah just noticed they have moved the games around as SF is now in a dedicated cab whereas it was with Strider and Gn'G before

Ive a feeling the components in these cabs will be of a very cheap nature. By the time you’ve upupgraded the controls, wiring, possibly the screen, and get something else in there to run the games, you’d be in price range of a real cab with an arcade monitor and jamma setup

I'd say that ribbon cable is solely for the controls. The video output is contained within that black box to the rear of the screen. It would make sense for the emulation or boards to be there as well.

    And the speaker.
Yea power cable goes to the box so Id say the emu is up there.

Yeah you're spot on, was only thinking that afterwards. It's a shame as it's going to hinder their sales because a high percentage of the market will want to use them for emulation.

Yup but if soldering or opening up that box is require they're going to be crushing a lot of their target market.

Then again us folks into emulation tend and arcade cabs tend to be a crafty bunch, so maybe it won't be a complete disaster!

I’d say opening of the box is a given, with no WiFi, and being directly connected to the screen, there appears no other way to access it for reasons. Worst case is rip the screen out, replace it with standard 4:3 screen of equal size, fit a Pi3b, and hope someone makes an adapter for the ribbon cable to talk to the Pi. An IPAC and small pc might make for an even better solution

But is that not a case of Triggers Sweeping Brush, as in by the time you've finished little of the original will be left?

Some early reviews are now up for these, and rumours of extending the line of games down the road.

For what it's worth I think it's a decent package, and it's great that they're adapting the arcade for a layperson home market. However this video shows there's no dip switch or options accessibility so no altering of difficulty or lives, etc.

Also, the sneaky part of me is wondering how easy would it be to gut and make it into a JAMMA cab? ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 225 ✭✭frasr

I'm still really disappointed they changed the SF2/Strider/Ghosts N' Goblins cab to be a dedicated SF2 only cab. I presume it's due to cost/spread of licensing.
I wonder how this affects people who pre-ordered said cabs.

echoing Kev's comment on Jamma and even Mame, I think ease of expansion is the key to a lot off people holding of buying these

Been also looking at some youtube videos on this, bartops seems to a future addition, as will cocktails.
More items to come include pacman cab, final fight etc

Plenty of detail in this guys videos
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OdePHpeUNw&list=PLWVxjCIabbO1mIABCvWam0KxedXKowGPV

Also gamestop.ie seem to have them available for pre-order again

From looking at the Rerez review I think the screen is a bit too small for 2 player, it looks like it would be very cramped.
Is it possible to get large 4:3 LCD screens that aren't crack these days?

Keep an eye out for Sony LMD Pro LCD broadcast monitors, you can get them in 4:3 at 20 inches and they're great quality. There was a dude on ebay selling them off for fairly cheap recently. Just did a google and one went for 50 gbp with the input board

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SONY-LMD-212-PRO-MONITOR-TUNER-SONY-MEU-WX2-Digital-Included/332672286726?hash=item4d74d04006:g:~RMAAOSwtDdabMuw

You can run VGA into that digital board so can easily connect up a PC.

Wouldn't mind a Pac Man version of these. I don't own an arcade machine (yet!), but I guess from a purist point of view it might not be arcade perfection however they do look very well.

Looks like a good size and not a bad price considering you can go into GameStop and pick one up (when they come out). The only thing that might put people off is that each one is basically a dedicated cab and people might want more games for the price.
