Didn't think about it before how civil war was going to effect this movie.

Looks a tonne of fun :)

I was surprised at how much I ended up enjoying the first installment, especially given the production problems. If this is more of the same silly fun, I'm in.

Looks like they've recaptured the tone of the first one. Looking forward to it!

I'm getting a great feeling of

"Who bloody cares.... WE'VE SEEN INFINITY WAR FFS. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENS NEXT?! WHY THE HELL AM I SITTING THROUGH A WACKY COMEDY AT A TIME LIKE THIS?!"

Marvel always deliver though so I'm sure they have it all figured out.

Hannah John-Kamen is a pretty inspired choice for the villain; she doesn't have a huge CV, but she's the lead in the ScyFy show 'Killjoys' and has shown to possess bags of kickass style charisma. Hopefully the script taps into that, and gives her something to work with; goes without saying how often the MCU drops the ball with its villains. At the very least they need to stop killing them off by the final act.

I kinda get what you are saying. I think a lot of people are gonna go to this expecting... answers.

For anyone expecting Infinity War tie in, lower expectations because going by the film synopsis.
Set between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War,
Scott Lang, now under house arrest after the events of Civil War, tries to balance his home life as a father with his responsibilities as Ant-Man
, when Hope van Dyne and Hank Pym present him with a new mission to bring to light secrets from their past, teaming up with Van Dyne as the new Wasp

I'm not expecting any answers as to what will happen next for the Avengers, but I do expect something big in this movie that will impact what we can expect in A4 (and I reckon the same for Captain Marvel).

I reckon we will see some Quantum Realm stuff that will tie in to both Captain Marval and reams of speculation for A4.

I see nothing in this trailer to indicate that... but i am (possibly setting myself up for a fall) expecting something big and A4 related.

I think the most you'll get is a reason that Ant-Man and The Wasp weren't in Infinity War. I expect this to be more or less like Black Panther with regards to tie ins with IW.

I would guess that this will be it's own movie as such with a tie in at the end to or post credit scene to Infinity Way/Avengers 4.

They will do what they have to, travel to quantum realm, etc. Then when they arrive back at the end, they see the effects of Thanos from IW so it will be up to date time wise.

The same will go for Captain Marvel I presume. Hence being set prior to current events in the MCU timeline

Has anyone noticed how most of the rest of the world has a release date in early July but it isn't released here until 3rd August? Since the World Cup is on and the UK and Ireland usually have the same release dates for most films, they're worried about it low cinema attendance in England during the World Cup. We were supposed to get this a week before the US like we usually do. Now it's pushed back to August. I predict a lot of downloads because fans won't want wait or avoid spoilers for a month.

It really was a terrible idea to have a month in between release dates.

Like if there is anything worth spoiling in it then there's no hope not seeing them online at some stage over a month.

I kinda hope they get screwed now just so this is never a viable option again.

Yeah it makes no sense to delay it in Europe due to the world cup. From the studio's point of view, they will have reduced number of people seeing it on release during the World Cup but on the flip side as a result of it being released the month before, most people will have either just torrented it or had gotten spoiled on the Internet so they will still get reduced attendance.

They should have just delayed the US release to after World Cup. Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lily are also completely against the one month delay in Europe .

I thought it was still out here in July :o

Nope, it was delayed here due to World Cup. Would have been Ok years ago but nowadays it’s a completely idiotic decision by the studio.

Not the thread to ask, but isn't Incredible 2 also being delayed by the World Cup?

I believe so. It's also why we got Jurassic World two weeks before America.
These delays are irritating and surely it makes sense to offer these as counter programming.

I'm sure now that people could still go to the cinema during the WC. :pac:

Although in saying that, I'm not overly pushed though about seeing this, having seen 2 different trailers for it, I just dont like the look of it and I really enjoyed the first one as it was different to the norm.

World cup games at 1, 4 and 7 and trip to the cinema at 9.30. Easy :pac:

I have to say I also really enjoyed the first one and think its a very underrated film. Did not even know about this until I seen a trailer of it in the cinema a month or so back. Think the title is kind of awkward but really hope it does well and is good as I want to see a third one too.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

From what I can see the majority of games would have been played already by the time it would have been released. You'd be looking at 2 days of matches for quarters, then 2 nights for the semis then the final.

Wouldn't affect the box office at all in my opinion

Going to be a nightmare trying to avoid spoilers for this

I think this will have a huge impact on IW part 2

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

The few reviews I've read have suggested that this is a broadly standalone story with little to no connection with Infinity War. That it's a deliberate, disposable pallete cleanser after IW. Seems like spoilers may not be such a problem and can be enjoyed on its own terms

Its set well before those events. Surely everyone expected this no?

If I had to guess the only connection this will have to IW is the last 5 or 10 minutes in order to connect Lang to the bigger picture.

Saw this last night. Like most Marvel movies it was a lot of fun and this took a step forward from the original. It is a complete tone shift from IW and even though I expected this going in it still took me a while to settle into it. It is probably as close to a comedy movie they’ve done (even more so than Ragnorok) and about 90% of the jokes hit for me, which is a solid return. I saw it in 3D on a huge IMAX screen and actually enjoyed the 3D for a change. Some of the visuals in the quantum realm where fantastic.

Looking forward to discussing it and its implications further when people get to a chance to see it. I feel it was strong in areas where I normally see complaints for other Marvel movies - it didn’t feel like any tie ins were forced, solid villain that you understood the motives, and no world threatening huge battles.

There is one mid credit scene and another one right at the end. I would definitely advise that no one moves before at least the mid-credit scene.
    Ant-man and Wasp will return………?
