Complete and utter disaster of a performance. The only plus point is that I'f we played like that 3 years ago we'd have been beaten by double figures. Somehow we managed a draw, despite the lead that would've papered over cracks. Daithi, n.burke and c.mannion can stand tall. Noone else. It could be the wake up call they need however

    I won’t argue with that

Too much loose talk (not from Galway mind) of it being Galway's All-Ireland to lose and there's nobody around to match them. Very hard for talk like that not to seep into the players minds. And all it takes is for them to be 5% off their game and you can struggle against a decent side.

Guess we will find out next week if today will refocus their minds.

Isn't that the key point. This was the last time they could get away with a poxy display this year. They had one and now need to bury kk the next day. Can't afford to lose that now with limerick the following week.

A trip to Thurles: a true punishment for not puttng KK away.

Win next week and this could turn to be a good day, terrible performance but didn't lose and replay will mean Galway avoid a month layoff before a semi final. The loser next week though will be out for the third time in fourteen days against Limerick who, not trying to disrespect Carlow, will presumably have a handy enough runout next week and shake off any rust.

Not quite a disastrous performance, but a lazy, indolent, careless one. Playing poorly, we were still just one more point away from seeing out the game (JC's last missed free would probably have seen us home). However, the mistakes we've been making at times all year - poor first touch, bad passing, carrying the ball into the tackle, poor decision making - all on display again today. Mgmt really need to tighten up on all of these aspects.

Really worried for JC; jarred his knee at some stage today I think and he was out on his feet for easily the last 10 minutes. I'd be very surprised to see him start next week.

Lookin at Kerry, Monaghan, Kildare in Galways super 8 table. You'd be wanting Monaghan at home and Kildare away.

I’ve a feeling it will be Fermanagh for some reason. We need to be qualifying from that group to show real progress and that we’ve become contenders.
If it is Fermanagh and Monaghan, that group will have more blankets than Homestore! Should be interesting how Kerry approach it and how we approach Kerry.

Good post, our intensity never hit the levels of the match in Salthill and that’s not all down to Kilkenny. Lack of crispness in our touch and we seemed to be just slightly off. Draw is the worst result too, would have been better lose nearly and know our path for certain by now. Still in contention, but it won’t be the coronation the media had been writing about. Good to let some air out of that ballon I suppose.

Taking the point when it was on won the all Ireland for Galway last year.
    Why change this formula now?
We would have won yesterday if we took the simple score

I think it's been a conscious tactical approach by both mgmt and players to go for more goals this year, I suppose they see it as a shortcut to winning games with more comfort and less effort. Ironically, you are correct that taking the straightforward points would have seen us ease away yesterday. Maybe a compromise, build up enough of a lead first with points and then start going for the net.

Maybe this is the kick up the a**e our lads needed as they have being sleepwalking through the league and championship. Very poor in our first touch and striking which was our strength last year. we didn't play enough of low ball into Whelan who was very dangerous and we should've spread the wings a bit more.

I thought Galway's puck out strategy, especially in the second half, was atrocious. Skehill just kept lamping it down the field and more often than not Kilkenny either caught it clean or won the breaking ball.

The draw was predetermined and that is the home and away sequence.

    Monaghan is the concluding game.

All puck outs were hit under the shade of the Hogan Stand.

Skehill is very limited from puckouts as everything is a wind up off the left side which only suits a lad in a puck fada. You need quick snappy balls pinged out 15-20ft off the ground that lads can run on to.

Raining down these missles that go 100ft up and drop just off vertical are a backs dream. The forward is immediately under pressure as its 50/50 no matter who's in front. If he drops it it'll go no more than 10ft away.
By contrast if the ball is coming low and fast should it evade the defender its gone inside him so he has to worry about being behind and also being able to cover back if someone overlaps him.It gives the forward all the advantage but we're giving that away for hit and hopes.

Sunday week 4pm throw in for Kerry in Croker. Was hoping for the Saturday. Could also be in Thurles for the hurling the same day. The geniuses of the GAA have done it again.

What are the GAA at fixing the game for the same time as the World Cup final? Could at least have had the lesser game in the group on at the time and throw this in at 2pm. Was looking forward to going to this as I have the last two times the teams met in Crocker but I won’t even be watching on tv now. GAA have made some very strange decisions this summer.

There will be feck all at Kerry v Galway. The hardcore support from both counties is not that big and they will be there alright but the casual support will be well down and the vast majority of neutrals who might have gone will opt for the World Cup final instead.

And that's not even counting the hurlers who could be playing the same day.

Why is even a possibility? There’s a (good!) chance the hurlers will be out that day so the Kerry match should have been set for the Saturday. Geniuses as you said...

Think plenty of hardcore fans won’t go as well. I’ve travelled the length and breadth of the country supporting the footballers over the years so I certainly wouldn’t consider myself a casual and I won’t be going to the Kerry match. Mindless stuff from the GAA. There will hardly be 20,000 there I reckon.

I'll go Kerry match provided the hurlers don't lose on Sunday but it's a sickener that we might be in a situation where we have to choose when there'd be without doubt a thousand of us that would probably do both. Just absolute disregard for Galway supporters. It's not like either are lowly qualifier matches either.

The World Cup is the lesser of the issue in my eyes.

Gaa are clowns, always were when it came to the "foreign" games. Not a hope they'd fix the Dublin Donegal match for 4pm on the Sunday, it might affect the chance of a sell out. They know they've to open the gates that weekend to Galway and Kerry so if there'd only be 30000 there anyway from both counties, may as well go with the 10000 that'll go now and suck it up.

Donegal seem to be ready to take a stand on the home away fixtures. Galway should rock in behind on the scheduling issue. Top brass are taking the pi$$ out of everyone bar Dublin at the moment.

Harry Kane is a Galway man and could be lifting the world cup that day.

I actually think I'd lose my mind if they fixed the hurling for the Sunday and not the Saturday. I know it's says Sunday but they surely wouldn't? Won't come to it anyway hopefully but still a ridiculous situation. Why not wait until after Sundays match

Unlikely unless kk bring a big crowd due to proximity. Galway traditionally don't bring big crowds to thurles. It's a nightmare to get to if your not southeast of Loughrea.
