Currently one fault on the car. The multifuntion steering wheel disconnects very regularly and I lose all buttons, adaptive cruise and DSG paddles.
Dealer wanted around €450 for a new steering wheel module but it seems more like a loose connection to me.

The belts on those are due at 210k kms.

It does sound like a faulty clock spring, they are fairly common to give trouble on most VAG stuff. You'd rarely see the cause of anything actually being loose connection.

Would any of you on this thread know where I could buy this for a golf r that will deliver to Ireland?

Thanks for the reply, this is the only thing they wont post out of the UK. All other items they will, I can even get a racing line one from them posted to Ireland.

Alternatively get the VW shortshifter part: 5Q0711046K. Not sure of the price locally but can be got from Germany for less than €40 ex P&P.

I didn't know VW did one themselves, I might pick this up then.

Got work done and was told this was the missing part (originally was a short shift in the car) so needed to replace with this, I thought this was the default when I looked it up.
I might check with a VW dealer here, see if they can source it.

I read a couple of weeks ago that the GTD is also losing the manual option, though I can't remember if I read the 3 door was also going.

To be fair the vast majority of performance Mk7's are already 5 doors, it's unusual enough to see a 3 door as it is.

I have a 162 GTD and I am due to come out of my PCP deal in August 2019 and I am expecting to take a fairly massive bath on it given the second hand car market. I have kept it in very good condition but there is 47k on the clock now, which is more than VW would want id say. Has anyone come out of their deal yet and what were they happy with the offer from VW and was there much about the mileage etc.

I can't really decide what to do when my deal expires, I do a 100km round trip everyday so a GTi/R is not any option for me but damn i'd love one. I am actually considering an electric eGolf (don't kick me out please). I think the government are going to come after diesel in a big way in the next few years. Just checked VW's site and there are only 4 second hand ones in the country, and they range from mid thirties up, which is more than i would like to spend really, have a mortgage now and can't spend as much on cars as I'd like.

In the end I think i'll probably go back the years and try and pick up an Audi A6 estate or A5 that can eat up the motorway miles but won't cost me a fortune to buy. Would Audi do a deal with me for a 152 A5/A6 for a 162 GTD, does anyone have any experience doing this sort of deal out of a PCP. I will have a final payment of E15k on the GTD next year. Another option is to see if I could sell my car privately and then go to the UK and see what I can get, i'm pretty sure i could get much better bang for my buck over there, I would be aiming to spend in the low twenties. I don't know would there by much interest in my car here though, dunno.

Sorry for all the questions, I have been thinking about this for a long while and I just don't know what the best thing to do is and I'd really appreciate some advice on this one.

You don't need to wait for the PCP to end before you sell either. You could sell it today if you like. Vw will give you a settlement figure over the phone. There is no penalty for doing this. You actually save money doing this as you effectively pay off the loan early and you pay less interest.

Thanks, I think you are correct about selling privately as it would be a lot of money for someone to spend with no guarantee etc. But I’d say there aren’t many GTD’s about so that could be in my favour.

I am actually thinking of going into an Audi dealership and see what they see what they can do for me. I think going through a dealer is certainly the easiest option for me. There are some nice A5/A6’s available for th mid twenties at the moment.

Why would you want to change to a slightly older Audi? Is the gtd not perfect for your millage?

It is but I think I’d just like a chance really and if I keep the GTD much longer then I’ll lose a lot on it. I may well end up keeping it and just finance the final payment. It really depends how the negotiations go with the dealers.

The salesman never even batted an eye at the mileage, it may have had an effect in the background on the price we were offered but he didn't break out his calculator and do the 0.02c per kilometre equation or anything. Having a 3 year old GTD with around 70k on it, I couldn't see being a huge deal.

If you fancy a change then that's fair enough. But if part of the motivation is to "downgrade" for financial reasons then it's not the best idea, unless you are properly downgrading to a car of much less value. Changing to a car with similar price is just giving a dealer a chunk of cash to stay in a car of similar value.
