Well the problem there is that unless people buy the cars new they won't be available used in quantity in 3-4 years time.

That's one of the advantages of Norway's approach of just exempting EVs from VAT and registration taxes. People who would otherwise buy 5-series actually go and buy a Model S and people who'd normally buy used, buy new.

Yes exactly, I got flamed here a while back for having the same opinion because some people thought that the rich shouldn’t be exempt from paying vrt. But they didn’t get the bigger picture and that is that the more electrics on the road the better.

Better to have a Model S on the road than a 5 series Diesel.

One of them was me - and I still stand by my assertion that there should be a cap on the VRT relief - no need to subsidize an already weatly person into a luxury car. If anything, make the Leafs and Ioniqs of the world a bit cheaper instead of giving Joe and Jane Moneybags free dosh to exchange the Range Rover for the Model X.

Looks like making the formal complaint was more effective than some here initially thought...

Just listened to it there on the podcast. (https://www.rte.ie/radio/utils/radioplayer/rteradioweb.html#!rii=b9%5F10895272%5F15036%5F26%2D06%2D2018%5F) begins at approx 30 minutes in.

Good stuff they got a slot, far better requesting that than a silly complaint to BAI and good to hear Roger raise the infrastructure issues but would have been good to use the opportunity to raise the CRU mess and put some political pressure on.

Pity Roger didn't explain that Mike didn't have to queue for the charger in Cahir. He could've just filled up with petrol and hit the road again.

Yes there was a lot of information not covered at all.
I assume as an outsider that the reason they got the slot was due to the complaint being filed.

Either way I don't think this did much for the positivity of EV in ireland, as the previous slot was much longer and more damaging.

I think Roger comes across as someone a bit nervous re being on the radio.

It's not easy been on the radio if your not 100 percent comfortable with it.

Especially if he's on the phone as well.
