Quick Q for the guru's on the board here. '18 7.5PP/DSG - regarding the ACC/DCC, how can it be set up that the damn thing stays in the same mode on start up each time. Previous car was 7.0PP and if one left it in Eco on shut down..... it remained in Eco upon restart. This car just reverts to Drive each time no matter what I do. Stupid gripe I know but........

Only other gripe I have is that the under seat storage trays have disappeared !

Thus far I actually find the 7.5 a little earier on the jungle juice. Possibly due to the 7sp over the 6sp in the 7.0. The box itself is nicer with better spaced ratios. Also, definitely more mid range power over the 7.0 even though the bhp increase is minimal.

If you are talking about putting the DSG box in 'eco' mode, (i.e E6, E7 etc..) the only way of doing this is reselecting eco on the DCC after an engine restart. After an engine restart the DSG always defaults to D mode, even if turned off with DCC in race, eco..etc..

Thought it was just me. Pain in the arse. Last 7.0 always reverted to
last mode selected on shut down when started again.
    Cheers.........

Did you buy your last car new? That behaviour can be coded into the car, maybe that was done by the previous owner?

Both straight out of the wrapper....................

Ah I dunno then. I had a mk7.0 and it behaves as your 7.5 does now. Gearbox always defaulted to D, regardless of mode it was in when last driven. First world problems eh! :)

VAG having serious production issues. I wanted to put in an order for an Audi and I was told they weren't making any more orders this year.

That's probably because of the new real world testing rules which has resulted in some reclassifications of car emissions.

Likewise. I don’t think it’s possible (even through coding) to have the car start in any mode other than D. I’ve never seen them work any other way.

Even if you stop the car in “Race” mode, when you restart and move off, the gearbox will be in D. It’s been a while now since I was in one so this is from vague memory...

Yeah I’ve heard the same from a few people. All the VAG brands are affected. I believe some other marques are too.

    Hey guys!
Planning on upgrade to GTI PP or R dsg. Have1.6 tdi highline for nearly 3 years now and didn't even make 25k on it so have to move on for some more fun engine :)
What would be consumption of GTI /R dsg(Normal driving) in city? Would it be more then 12 L?
Was reading various post online but interested what ppl here in Ireland can say about it.
    Thanks

Thanks for the info... so I believe R would be even higher.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,547 ✭✭✭JoeA3

No idea what the litres/km figures are but in old money, expect 26-28mpg in an R and 32–34MPG in the GTI.
If it’s mostly city driving it’ll be the lower of those numbers. Longer motorway type runs, you’d see slightly better numbers.

Agree with joe... 27 mpg in mark 7 golf R for urban driving. Very consistently. Moderate Motorway cruising not a hell of a lot better at 30 -32 mpg. I’d guess inner city stop start would be 25 or lower but couldn’t say for certain as I dont have reason to drive in very often.

I do very little urban driving and see 30mpg nearly religiously.
I don't see any better on a long run, motorway speeds seem to drink fuel in an R. I presume the 7 speed would be better.

    Nice alright

Some spec on that. Sunroof, leather, upgraded infotainment, keyless...€54k new. Wouldn't be surprised if it had the upgraded sound system too. Is this to do with the new emissions I wonder? I usually see dealer stock up for full whack.

Wonder how it would fare on PCP vs a brand new 181 and how your next trade in would go down the line?

Easily a 57-58k car new. Yes it has Dynaudio and the Pro Nav also.

They might not do the 1.9% on it. Usually it’s 4-5% on used cars but as it’s relatively new they might.

Why would the original owner be selling it already? Or would it have been a demo car?

Ah it has to be a demo / dealer / VW Ireland car.

Definitely a demo. "Available second week in July", right about when the salesmans 182 demo arrives.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,479 ✭✭✭DaveyDave

Starting to think the grey metallic looks better than white. The R is an absolute beauty.

Terrific value imo if you don't mind folk turning up their noses to an extent at the thought.

If there will actually be any R/GTi demos turn up, given you can’t order one at the moment due to the new European car test regime and trying to get them re-certified.

It's not exclusive to performance models though, WLTP is putting a temporary stop on everything. I'd say you'll still see a fair few 182 performance demo's but I believe they are getting thin on the ground, at least nicely spec'd ones.

Grey Metallic was always way nicer than white though. :P

Has anyone changed the timing belt on a GTD yet?

    I'm approaching 160,000kms.

The service department told me 120k on the phone today but
I think they gave me a different number in the past.

Currently one fault on the car. The multifuntion steering wheel disconnects very regularly and I lose all buttons, adaptive cruise and DSG paddles.
Dealer wanted around €450 for a new steering wheel module but it seems more like a loose connection to me.

    That's 120K miles AFAIK.

Anyone know when/why the long term fuel economy resets? Just looked and it's at 106km.
