I'm currently using an S6. Will this phone be a huge step up?

Not so sure it would be a step up.
It would be more like a step sideways.
It would be a new phone, so would feel much better initally.
It would also depend on wear and tear on the S6 how long you have had and used it.

But assuming both phones were brand new, then I would think the S6 would be slightly better.
There is not much between the Snapdragon 625 and the Samsung Exynos 7 I think the SD625 might slightly beat it as it is newer, but I would imagine overall performance would be slightly better on the SG6.
But taking price difference into consideratio, then the Redmi would be much better value overall.

    better battery ( 4000/2500 ) - bigger screen size ( 5.99/5.1 ) - better platform - ( Android 7.1.2 / 5.0.2 )

The RN5 wins for me :)

Yeah the battery power is gone to sh1te on the S6 so I think I will pull the trigger on the 5 plus.
    Cheers for the advice.

Oppo Find X + Lamborgini Edition

Gsmarena specs comparison for both editions.

Given the storage on the device, I would say this is going to be expensive.

    Video features: -
Moving parts in a phone can not be good, plus how would you put a case on it?

Edit someone started a thread: - Oppo Find X coming to Europe, does that include Ireland?

I don't see how Oppo haven't made a bigger noise in terms of people wanting and talking about them, than Xiaomi. It is obviously down to marketing, and Xiaomi seem to release anywhere between 4 and 10 versions of each model.

The R11/S is a great phone.

I don't think Xiaomi spend much on marketing, xiaomi just seems to have gained more of user based opinion, trust and value for money from users in the west.
    3. Unique Advertising Strategy

There is a reason why Xiaomi is able to price its smartphones aggressively and that is because they don’t spend heaps of money on marketing and advertising. Instead, they rely more on word of mouth advertising model. Xiaomi knows, if they bring a really good product in the market at an extremely attractive price, people will talk about it and that's exactly where most of the sales come from. People refer their friends and family to a Xiaomi product and the chain continuous

Yeah, i wasn't saying the amount spent. I meant the type of marketing.

'Word of mouth advertising' is the form of marketing that they rely on, that's why i was wondering how Oppo haven't made as much noise.
They don't go for the same gimmicks Xiaomi do. E.G. A budget version of a budget phone, presentations imitating apple/Jobs, branding on almost every product possible, from toothpicks to rocket engines etc.

They don't need magazine/TV adverts, and their web presence is huge. It is unfortunately drowning out a lot of competitors. In many cases the competitors phone may be better.

Often works out good for the consumer though, but will slow down when other brands are finding it tougher to get into the budget sector outside China and India. Less other brands with more bands.

I was looking at the redmi note 5 (as opposed to the 5 plus). Anyone got it? Any feedback?

    See this thread!

I'm pretty happy with mine, having a RN3 Kenzo before it.

what's the best shipping choice for this? Ships to Ireland in the same time as uk delivery (parcel motel) will I avoid possible customs charges going to UK address?

That is for all colours and the best price at the moment.
The €144 price is quite expensive, as it is only €133 on Joybuy (€115 on the 18th Sale)
    https://www.joybuy.com/650883541.html

€119/€126 on Banggood (with code 6BGS2032/6BGS232)
    https://www.banggood.com/Xiaomi-Redmi-S2-Global-Version-5_99-inch-3GB-RAM-32GB-ROM-Snapdragon-625-Octa-core-4G-Smartphone-p-1293571.html

    €134.76 on Geekbuying https://www.geekbuying.com/item/Global-Version-Xiaomi-Redmi-S2-5-99-Inch-3GB-32GB-Smartphone-Gray-397285.html

and cheaper than €144 most everywhere else.

Personally , I wouldn't buy any of those linked phones with just a typical 3000mah battery .

I haven't used it, so no idea what the os on it is like. I was just referring to the price.

Anyone got a shout on a phone with a decent camera? Its for a mate, he's coming from a Redmi Note 4 and is very happy with the snaps but prefers the gfs Mi5s for them.

Most of his pics are of his plants or food so something capable of capturing smaller details is the big need.

Told him to get a camera but he wants it in his phone for ease of use.

Will just go for a Mi5S if no one has any suggestions, they're going for decent money these days.

3000mah is perfect for most phones. Screens and processors are using less and less power.

It's short sighted to say you wouldn't buy a phone with a small battery. It depends how it uses it.

Got the MiA1 for my wife at Christmas. Delighted with it. Now thinking bout Redmi Note 5 for myself. Just wondering how people are getting on with it. Is the camera decent? A case will be a definite requirement for me so wondering bout the 5.99". Went with geekbuying last time, no complaints. Any better out there?

Bought the RN5 for a friend lately. A difference you will notice is that the 3 buttons at the bottom of phone ( menu- backspace etc ) are within the screen and very close to the icons that remain on homescreen .

On my RN4x these 3 buttons are on the black space and a lot easier to manage .

And if you're feeling adventurous, go to settings, full screen display and do away with the buttons altogether and use gestures instead!!!

Took me about a week to get used to it, but now its 2nd nature and its great to have the full screen experience / extra screen space.

Thoughts on the Honor 7X please? Gets mentioned in a few 'best phone under €200' but barely a mention here.

    Thanks.

If your not into rooting or flashing custom roms, the above probably won't bother you?

Thanks. I had a bad experience with my current phone (MI5S), probably caused by Vendor Rom so want new phone to be 'unaltered' and won't root or install custom rom.

Do you find this stops you minimizing the app that you are in while typing or going to home screen etc - has absolutely been drivin me bonkers, one of the reasons I prefer the RN4

Just for Clarity I got the Redmi 5 plus not the note 5 (they are confusing betards) loads of room at bottom of phone for those buttons, they didn't need to be on screen and is really to its detriment I feel.

had not though of that, but yes, you will not minimize an app by mistake!

Bought a redmi note 5 ( my third Xiaomi)and am having trouble on tesco. Inserted card yesterday , calls no data. Today I thought I'd both but then several people couldn't get through to me so I rang tescomobile C's and got a very helpful assistant who suggested a fresh APN, did this , rebooted and everything seemed fine. Now I've no data. She did say that it appears that TM don't support this model. Any suggestions or alternatively can a fellow owner suggest a network that works?
