I got a phone call saying I was being considered for a position and would receive paperwork in a few days. Surprisingly I had choice of which location I preferred. As I live down the country I opted for a regional role. Seems to be a number of vacancies in all 3 departments in Dublin and around the various regions.

Great news , do you mind me asking what no. You were on panel? Would be great to see this moving along.

I got a call today offering me Agriculture or Social Protection, not Revenue. I have till tomorrow to decide. Then they will check my references, qualifications & experience. I am number 21 on panel. I'm trying to gather some info on both depts. so I can decide. Social Protection is either Dublin 1 which suits or Kilmainham which doesn't really suit. I was also offered Wexford or Celbridge I think she said.

Anyone any advice? I would say SP is a much larger dept & potentially more opportunity for promotion.

Ag offices are Kildare Street, Portlaoise, Backweston (Cellbridge).

Good luck in your decision! (sorry, I’m no help).

I spoke to someone in Agriculture yesterday and was told they do no in-house development (or very little) in Dublin. Contractors do the bulk of the development. The EOs are there to bridge the gap between the contractors and the users, so more like business analysts. I still haven't got in touch with anyone from DSP yet.

How is Agri dept compared to other departments like Revenue, DSP, DFA etc.

People consider Agri dept as low profile compared to Revenue etc. Might be they dont embrace the latest technologies.

I have heard it is a friendly, nice office. The people I spoke to were very helpful.

Congrats emermc, were you on the Development or infrastructure panel?

They must be well into the 20's now if they had multiple positions to offer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 82 ✭✭emermc

    I'm on development panel & number 21.

They rang again yesterday offering a vacancy in Forensics Science Ireland. I think I'll take SP.

Anybody know where they are on the panels??? Gone very quiet...

I haven't heard anything in a month from them. They have checked my qualifications but not my references.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 126 ✭✭MaxPayneXL

Me too in the same situation. No feedback about at what stage is the process. Send a couple of emails but no reply !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 82 ✭✭emermc

Emailed & phoned on Monday. They called me yesterday to say there is a large number of applications and it is a slow process.

Best of luck to anyone waiting for Reference checks etc, it must seem like its taking an eternity for you at this stage at the rate its moving!

Does anyone have the details for contacting them about where the list is at? i.e phone number and email?

    Thanks.

29K for developers is laughable. That might be the reason for low demand for EO Dev role

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 Fionnger

Got an offer of a vacancy in my choice of location subject to references and qualification checks.Got email notification that e-vetting was complete at beginning of May. After a month of inactivity I decided to ring competitions department last week but they weren't aware that e-vetting was returned. Got a call back the same day to say they were going to ring my current employer this week. I am assuming if all is well after ringing current employer this is the final check in a long process.

    Sounds good Fionnger.

Is the Dept of Justice on offer for EO Development stream? Someone mentioned justice up above?

I'm no. 21 and they have contacted references this week.

Forensics Science would be Justice so I 'd say that's were it is based.

Other decent benefits to working in the civil service though, which might be important to some people.

29k is only the starting salary and given the fact most of the heavy lifting done by outside contractors what do you expect, graduate tester/dev aren't earning any more then that and this is a junior role. I'd say it might have been CO level in the past
