So the reports were that we had a €110m + bonus rejected by Lazio, the owner/president confirmed IIRC. now there are reports that he is being valued at €100m for Juve..

So normal asking price for other clubs, another €10 million for United?

Must be frustrating for Woodward and whoever else helps out with the transfers side, meet valuation for player x (Savic in the case), Lazio think nah we want more, just cause...

Or we just didn't bid for him and the usual journo trash is been believed.

I doubt juve could afford him either.

€10 million difference in valuations for the transfer of Allison to Madrid. Hopefully this gets done soon and the De Gea stuff is put to bed.

Hard to do at the moment cause we are so desperate to win, etc,

But long term, the way to stop this is walking away quicker when clubs put stupid demands on players. Juve, Bayern, etc, never have to pay those fees cause they very obviously make it clear they won't, and if offered a stupid price, they will walk to other targets. We, on the other hand, seem eager to splash out when we can....

Only way to stop it is do like bayern and tap up players nearing the end of their contracts and in last year.

Bayern have players tapped up2/3 years in advance and get them to wind down the contract on a promise

What type of midfielder is Jorginho....who City are in for?....
Wonder is he similar to Fred?

This is pretty much the only way out if paying huge fees I don't know how they get away with it.

He’s more defensive than Fred, be like Fernandinho, who I reckon he is a long term replacement for.. can get forward too and is a decent passer. Will suit them tbh,

Don’t think there is any rule against it in Germany. Not entirely sure though

City are building for the future, bit by bit they are bringing in younger players for each position. The age profile was getting high but now it's coming down.
United are only addressing some of these issues now post Ferguson and even at that it's still looking like we'll have Valencia and Young as starting full backs.

Great interview enjoyed reading that! I'm hoping he will be a future captain at the club. One the few we have who works his hole off every game weather we're winning or losing!

Dunno where I seen it, it could be bull****, that united are only looking to sign players under 27, with the exception of a back up striker. Again can’t remember if the link was credible or not but if it is true it bodes well for the future.

I thought his attitude last season was fantastic - i'd previously been worried about him being a bit lazy on the pitch, but he worked his ass of for United all season, and you could see how much winners (no matter who got them) meant to him. Was a huge personality for us.

You can see he as the hunger and drive you would like - and it is not always something that carries through from the fight to become a professional in the first place. Many footballers have felt they have 'made it' once they sign their first big(ish) contract and then go nowhere cause the drive to keep going isn't there once they are getting 10k+ a week.

I adore Lukaku. So thrilled we got him, and my main hope for this summer is we can build a proper team to support him. I have no doubt in my mind he's on the same level as Kane (he's done similar numbers to him with worse behind him), and if we can fix our creativity problem, think he could be banging in goals for fun.

    Brilliant article from Lukaku.

It makes think about the distinct lack of desire amongst the younger generation today. Not many of them feel that they "need" to make it. For Lukaku, it was literally the breadline that was at stake.

Been waiting for this all week, belgium are my team in the cup this year hoping they don't disappoint or I'm going to support Portugal. ;)

I wonder how much of an impact been poor/broke despite his dad being a pro footballer had and has. Its interesting.

You could think that he could look for a life away from football after his dad had been a pro, and still ended up where they were.

On the other hand, it points to why he has retained the hunger - a deep seated need to make the most out of his career while he can, so he can be in the best position possible when it comes to a close - and making the most of his career means giving his all.

    An interesting character study.
