I'm trying to decide between Redmi Note 5 or going for the GalaxyS9+

I'm currently on a €30/30 day plan - If I go with the Redmi, I'll stick with this.
If I go with the Galaxy S9+ it's €99 upfront & €60pm. Is worth getting into a 24 month contract for?

Do you really want to be tided to a contract and pay over the odds for a device.

If you like the idea of Redmi Note 5 [WHYRED], see this thread for more info and buying options.

The S9 is a slightly superior phone , but for the battery alone , I would buy the RN5. - 4,000mah and the S9 is only 3,000mah

If yoou have a minute here is a comparison website :

Naming convention strikes again, you linked the India version of RN5 Pro

Contractless you can change network should any better offers become available over the next two years.
With €60pm you will have paid €820 for the phone over two years (using your current €30/30 as a starting point).
It is currently for sale around €740. Next year it will be available for roughly €500 - €550.
It is up to you whether or not you think it is worth it.

Look's like I've a bit of reading to do!

At the moment I think I'm siding with the Redmi note 5 as I'd prefer not to get into a long contract. I had the Redmi note 4 a few years back & was very happy with it.
The S9+ is so tempting though, the camera is what is inciting me more that anything.

BTW - I have a Redmi Note 4x at the moment and it does absolutely everything I ask it to do .
€130 on Aliexpress today - battery is 4100mah and camera is brilliant too .

2gb ram is grand, but for longevity you really want more. It's also not good value for money given you can get a mi A1 for a little more and it's a much better phone.

What better about the A1,it has a smaller battery than 4x I can see

That would be my first criteria when deciding between the 2.I have the 4x myself.

The S9 has the same camera.

I wonder what soundcasting performs like.

I don't know about the other phone but I've got the A1 for five months or so and I'm very happy with it's performance. I went to Cork on Tuesday and had Spotify on the whole way down and back (about 8 hours in total), used the phone a fair bit while down there and when I arrived home 16 hours later I had 10% of battery power left. Obviously all that without charging the phone.

I've had no issues except for one day where my battery was draining quickly, restarted it and all was fine again.

It's on a Google platform and all apps work perfectly and quickly.

Battery performance would also be affected by the OS. MIUI 9 has some issues with draining batteries and cannot be pinpointed. Some apps have conflicted with the OS and removing them helps, but does not stop it.
The battery with Android One (A1) should perform a lot better and last at least as long.

The price difference seems to be the poor battery . One with 3080mah battery seems to be about €30 cheaper in both RN5 and MIA1

1-2 weeks, depending which postage you choose.
    Possibly.
    No.

All that information was in the website, btw.

Always assume there will be a customs charge (when ordering from outside Europe). Even if it is a site you have ordered from 10,000 times before and never got hit.

    Screen Protectors available here

So is the 4gd/64GB worth the extra 20 performance wise? Or is the 3GB grand with an SD card?

I don't use phone for watching movies or playing any games

For the sake of €20 I would probably go fo rthe 4GB/64GB as it is a very good price, the 3GB/32GB is great too, but the 4GB/64GB is better value.

I've just cracked all the glass on my redmi note 4x

The display and digitizer are working fine

    Is this an easy fix?

    Xiaomi RN4X -- LCD replacement

To replace just the glass, needs expensive tools, so need the display and digitizer replaced in one go.

If your doing it DIY, you have two options
    1. Replace just the LCD panel ~~~ $35
    2. Replace LCD + Frame ~~~ $45

Google it or search youtube for video guides on the matter.

It is easier to replace the whole front housing than just the LCD panel, because you won't need to worry about sourcing adhesive layer as well for the display.

If you can't do it DIY, you could ask repair shops, if they will do it, if you source the parts.

Edit: - You probably could find cheaper parts on aliexpress, but maybe not as good quality!

or another parts supplier: - http://www.ipartsbuy.com/view/3193087/Xiaomi%20Redmi%20Note%204X%20LCD%20Screen%20and%20Digitizer%20Full%20Assembly%20Black%20.htm

Edit 2: - Video guides link in the RN4 Thread post.
