Boycotting Paddy Power over Russia scoring fiasco.

I'm boycotting Paddy Power due to them donating of €10,000 for each goal scored by Russia to "LGBTQ rights".

It's just such a bad move, and in such bad faith.

Keep football out of politics. I'm well aware of the claims made by a lot of western media about Russia discriminating against LGBTQ groups. But on further investigation, in my opinion, they're not warranted. For example the "people should not give propaganda and advice to children about non-traditional sexual relations" - what is wrong with that? Maybe they should bring it in Ireland. I also agree with their stance against highly sexualised parades in main streets. Otherwise LGBTQ persons are treated well there and are not persecuted.

I think a lot of these LGBTQ groups are more like hate groups these days and would not support that. Maybe some of them do some good and actually help LGBTQ groups in some ways, however a lot of the time they are trying to push for things beyond that.

Another thing is the arrogance of Paddy Power to try to enter their political opinion like this. Even if you were doing something I agreed with it's very strange for a profit-making bookmaker to do it and I would not agree with doing this "twist". I would not agree with donating money to a nudist rights group every time Saudi Arabia scores even though I highly agree with nudist rights.

Why don't they just donate a few thousand euro to starving children? That's a much more noble cause than privileged first-worlders having to twist things to try to show discrimination that is either small or not there.

Maybe keep politics out of football?

You've just mentioned them in a thread title on Boards and so the real reason they did it, for promotional reasons, is working.

You've just mentioned them in a thread title on Boards and so the real reason they did it, worked.

Some things are so bad that the "all publicity is good publicity" saying doesn't hold. It also wasn't some last minute idea that seemed good the night before, they apparently had multiple meetings over it. It's baffling how they gave the go-ahead to it.

It's the principle of it, and the arrogance of Paddy Power to think they know best.

That's a brilliant idea. €10,000 could do a lot of good. I didn't know they were doing this. I haven't used my Paddy Power account in ages but I might log in now and give them custom. Thanks for letting me know, OP.

Is the donation because Russia is scored against the medieval theocracy of Saudi Arabia. That’s nice.

Let’s not forget that Paddy Power have adopted this ‘shur it’s only a birra craic’ schtick since about 2001 for one reason and one reason only: to lure younger people into the gambling market earlier. In fifty years’ time we’ll be wondering how we allowed bookies to advertise at all.

I wouldn’t get behind anything a bookmaker fronts, it’s only to normalize gambling that destroys many people’s lives.

Any bookmaker would go through his own mother for a euro- an absolute shower.

PP have once again pulled it out of the bag with their provocative marketing.

They always do things that are just almost "too far" but never really is.

The reality is the vast majority of their custom base and potential custom base would not be offended by this. In fact they would think its cool for whatever random reasons.

Personally I do find this idea a little bit weird. It would be nicer if they did something that maybe helped people in desperate need.

But once again that is Paddy Power and its how they operate and its why they are establishing a name for themselves far beyond Ireland and UK. They do not like to be considered the "good guys", they like to be considered the bad, but not sooooo bad guys.

What odds would PP give on the OP being one of the 37.9% of the voting electorate against SSM in 2015?

This was Channel 4’s response to Russia hosting the Winter Olympics. There is a common theme for a reason.

Why don't *you* donate your money to those causes if *you* want to, and let paddy power donate their money to the gays if that's how they want to spend it.

    Jesus Christ.

If they wanna donate money to a gay rights cause then let them ffs.

You think they should donate it to another charity, just because you find some other more worthy OP?

I donate to 3 animal rights charities monthly. I'm sorry i didn't consult with you before i started. Can you let me know the hierarchy in play please?

Here is an idea - how about you donate your money to whatever charity you wanna donate to and stop criticising others for doing what they want to do?

It is a bold idea i grant you but it lacks the possibility for indignant outrage. I cant see it catching on.
