Annoying Toyota hybrid advertising.

There’s a woman on the radio that tells me a few times a day that she’s basically saving the planet driving her three kids to school in a Toyota hybrid. Another man says he has the price of a holiday every year saved by driving one.
Am I alone in finding these ads very annoying?

Dont mind the holiday one - the one driving her kids to school wrecks my head.

There is a button on your radio that will change the station. Please consult your manual.

    In a word - No.
    Those adverts are just irritating.

There's worse ones out there like the opel adverts claiming to be german.

They are very patronising and cringey adverts alright but you can see who they are typically aimed at. Imo the people portrayed in them are the exact people who they are targeting, they normally don't put a massive amount of thought into buying or owning a car, they buy the same car or brand of car every few years because again they just turn the key and drive off, no more thought or hassle. Wash, rinse and repeat every few years.

The thing is that over the last 10 years or so these sheep were steered into buying diesels when they really didn't need them. Now that Toyota are forced to retire their diesel car range due to external factors earlier than they would like, they were frightened that the sheep would flock to another brand who still sells diesel cars. Hence the Toyota PR machine came up a great idea of telling people that they are pioneering no longer selling diesel cars and a hybrid is the best thing for them rather than buying a product from their rivals.

They sound as dreary as I'd imagine the ownership and owners of a Toyota Hybrid would be.

They are still selling petrol cars

The most annoying part is when they offer "spec" !! FFS , why can no one in advertising use the word "specification" in the proper context.

To be fair to Toyota, they did innovate very successfully with hybrid technology that is now on the road in its current 5-door format since about 2003 and has proven to be very reliable and effective.

Meanwhile, all the European car markers were trying to squeeze the last few drops out of diesel, not giving a damn about particulate emissions and all the downsides of so-called clean diesel. We all know where that ended up.

I think Toyota have their gloating rights in this case.

She probably spent the last 10 years driving a 3litre diesel jeep between the house, the school and Dundrum. Her husband is probably still driving his Range Rover.

and all the while the ever expanding Chinese coal burning power stations are running full tilt

Yes of course you will save the planet buying these horrible ****boxes

There would be less damage done to the environment if you bought an old V8

I haven't heard the ad - but. I bought a Toyota hybrid last year and despite a bit of veiled mockery - and a few straight up digs - from the odd smart arse, I like it. And while ye are all laughing, I am spending buttons on fuel.

I'd wait for new battery technology to become commercial and buy an electric.

Had one of the early Corrollas in a hatchback years ago, great little motor. Lively and easy on fuel.
Despite what Clarkson thinks I like a Toyota.

Hydrogen power is the future or possibly nuclear steam power.

Buying a new car to save money on the motor tax.

Nah. New batteries will charge in ten minutes. That'll be the end of the internal combustion engine.

If she really wanted to help her children, surely she'd walk them to school?! Just sayin' 😀
