That would be an excellent move for Jackson at this point. All seemed lost a couple of weeks ago and now he could be playing in the T14 for one of the traditional powerhouses of French rugby. I'm sure he won't be on major money but it will be a solid salary and if they stay up I'd imagine he'll be in line for an increased pay day.

Yep, great outcome considering how things appeared to be going

Neil Best on twitter showing a French newspaper article that says Jackson signing for Perpignan should be confirmed by the end of the week.

Ironically if you look at his earlier post Elton Jantjies was also linked.

It'd be funny if Jantjies turned down Ulster for Perpignan because he wanted to play with Paddy... (yeah I know they play the same position, indulge me)

The article mentions both being signed.

Rough translation is "the irish, in balance with Elton Janties presents the double advantage of being cheap due to losing his international status and being available during the international windows"

Good outcome for PJ...if confirmed...if all goes well he will be in big demand in a couple of years IMO.

    Not an Ulster player....

Strange that there's just radio silence. You would expect at least a couple of rumours to be flying around given the sheer lack of players.

My biggest fear is that's us done, and the academy is gonna be flogged. There's still a large list of issues needing resolved before next season and the PR department is in overdrive trying to distract us with stories on everything and anything currently.

Used to be an Ulster player therefore very relevant

He'll always be considered an Ulster rugby player. He was developed by Ulster and went onto represent Ireland from Ulster.

I echo what others have intimated however. Less said the better until the kid has signed a deal, don't give the saddo's on twitter recourse to go on the outrage rampage against potential clubs or sponsors before the ink has been let dry.

A few weeks back i thought we almost certainly wouldn't see him playing top tier Rugby in Europe next season

    Great move if it transpires.

I'm sure if he keeps the head down, and obviously delivers on the pitch/and of course behaves off it, he'll be looking at a raise at the end of the season as you say, and can even have a pick of top clubs down the line

Apparently we're linked with Jean-luc de plessis?

Meant to be a bit of an odd fish, calls his scrum halves "Number 1" and apparently refuses to kick a restart unless the ref says 'engage'.

Based on Wikipedia he seems pretty inexperienced.

Son of a Bok legend. He’s pretty talented but was out for nearly a year with a hip injury recently. Not exactly the technical experienced 10 to mentor McPhillips - in fact as he struggles to get game time at the Stormers he could even end up as McPhillips’ back up.

Think Neil Best started this rumor if that means anything.

So basically Ulster are definitely signing him?

I mean certainly Ulsterfolk do love to continually re-interrogate the past instead of moving on, but can't we talk about things relevant to next season that don't leave a bad taste in some supporters mouths?

I don't think we are likely to agree on this.

What I would say though is that similar to Pienaar last year, once the new season starts we will all no doubt move on, and it doesn't really get brought up that much anymore anyway.

It would also help if Ulster announced a much needed signing or two.

We are now almost a week into June and we are still 2 or 3 backs short and still have no timeframe in place for the arrival of our new head coach. Pre season will be starting in a month! Time for some movement Ulster!

Argh why waist a NIQ spot on a in-experienced 10! If your not gonna bring experience in sort our backline or 2nd row!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,161 ✭✭✭✭bilston

Another thing our coaching team consists of Payne, Soper, Peel and Dundon with McFarland as head coach. Who is the forwards coach? Also who is head coach if McFarland isn't here at the start of the season, never mind pre season? Will it be Peel as he is the most experienced, or will it be Soper because he has head coach experience, albeit at club and schools level?

    Haha!

Do you not think we have? It maybe gets mentioned on uafc but that place is a Looney asylum (with some decent souls like Launish and some poster called thecrouch who seems very familiar...) I wouldn't use that as a barometer of anything!

It has its uses. But the attitude towards Schmidt baffles me.

Uafc does my head in! Very few people actually discuss the rugby. More concerned with writing funny ****e to one another!

    FOSL.
Much like launish, I get the impression that most on UAFC spend about 20 minutes figuring out the best form of cryptic witty reply to eachother then feel super chuffed with themselves.
It's entertaining enough though, I tend to only get involved in a couple of threads anyway. Useful for some information on the odd occasion.
