The problem is that Roseanne has a permanent brain injury from when she was a teen or so. Her 'being funny' was often because of that injury.

That said, she's made incredibly crazy statements before-'Jews are mind controlled', 'certain races are anti-semetic' etc etc Baseless craziness. But I have to wonder if she's ill, like actually ill. It's a shame.

She did say, that time Gerry Ryan interviewed her, she was voting for Obama-'Bros before Ho's'.

    She's at the 1hr 20 minutes or so .

TV has used bigoted, narrow-minded characters many times to 'out' similar attitudes in society while making money off the characters' pulling power towards like-minded ppl. Archie Bunker in the States, Alf Garnett in England and Roseanne Conner (Barr). Each of these characters quickly exceed their expiry date, as the humour in the attitudes is overtaken by disgust at them. So Roseanne had gone beyond her expiry date years ago.

Regrettably, the actress herself had not seen that the attitudes she portrayed as the character were no longer acceptable. She's been tone-deaf for decades.

The issue is that ABC, knowing how tone-deaf she is, decided to re-create the character as an homage to, or reflection of, the demographic of grumpy American conservatism that was/is reflected in Trump's core base. She was never controllable and was not controlled and made the big mistake of tweeting her invective against a person who was/is a revered example of a successful African American woman in politics. That was simply a bridge too far, and when the sh!tstorm of revolt against racism came back onto Roseanne, much of it splashed onto ABC. Senior production ppl said they would no longer work with her. The Disney corp owners of ABC decided to dump her. Simple as!

Madness as you would think any actor, musician, politician etc would be careful what they say on Twitter.

She has a long history of batshît posts on Twitter. She believes that Trump broke up a Democrat politicians' paedophile ring. ABC knew what they were getting when they re-booted the show.

Then she deserves all she gets :pac:
If it were me, or you, she'd say the same too.

I don't remember the series being in any way racist,

I suspect the brain injury has everything to do with this, as another poster pointed out. There's also the fact that she was/is an Orthodox Jew and still throws out insane "Jews are mind controlled" statements.

You'd be surprised how many actors are nutcases like this.
2 of my favourite actors Mark Pellegrino from Supernatural and Adam Baldwin from Chuck/Firefly are lefty nutcases especially Baldwin who believes in government conspiracies etc..

These people are actors and can hide the craziness on screen. But give them free rein ie twitter and you don't long see them for who they really are.
Although if Tom Cruise was on twitter it would be a laugh for all the scientology nonsense he'd post.

Sleeping pills caused it apparently. Not the ones that make you fall asleep but the ones that turn you into a far right loon. Hopefully I'm not offending any far right loons.

Impressed by the coverage this story is getting, was the top story on both BBC and CNN yesterday. They should replace her with Ashton Kutcher.

I find it ironic that those people on twitter saying that this is too much and "freedom" being eroded are the same folk that were shouting from the rooftops when some NFL players took a knee during the anthems.

They're too stupid to see it though.

Are Disney not buying Fox? The entertainment wing not the news entertainment wing I mean?

Their keeping their TV networks AFAIK.
Disney gets the film studios and the rights to whatever film franchises Fox had, but they don't get the TV stations or the TV shows.

Never heard of this person before. She seems all over the place and went to twitter a couple of hours ago to post some nonsense. All over the place so she is. Can't directly link tweets in work but will post quotes from @therealroseanne in order of when tweeted, last being the latest.

So first she says not to defend what she did (twice), as it's unforgiveable, but also drops an excuse of tweeting while taking sedatives.
guys I did something unforgiveable so do not defend me. It was 2 in the morning and I was ambien tweeting-it was memorial day too-i went 2 far & do not want it defended-it was egregious Indefensible. I made a mistake I wish I hadn't but...don't defend it please. ty

In the space of an hour this unforgiveable act that she says for people not to defend, is actually one she will defend. Tired of being singled out.
I'm sorry 4 my tweet, AND I will also defend myself as well as talk to my followers. so, go away if u don't like it. I will handle my sadness the way I want to. I'm tired of being attacked & belittled more than other comedians who have said worse.

Finally we're back to excuses. This time relying on Joe Rogans popularity because he has discussed effects of taking the sedative. Also a plug for her joining his podcast no doubt.
I think Joe Rogan is right about ambien. Not giving excuses for what I did(tweeted) but I've done weird stuff while on ambien-cracked eggs on the wall at 2am etc -

It's harder to take any apology as sincere, or any excuse of ambien being used while she was liking more inappropriate stuff on twitter while making these tweets, like she wasn't aware it was visible. Also just looking at the thread she seems to have a history of offending people, must constantly be on ambien so.

Like one poster said, we're all entitled to freedom of speech but don't be stupid enough to think posting something highly offensive wont get you in a spot of bother. She's entitled to post the crap but ABC are entitled to cancel her show and distance themselves.

    Sad news. Loved the show.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.
She may be racist, she may be mentally ill or she may just be stupid. Either way there was no way that show was going to survive those tweets.

And ABC has the right to pull the show. Their network, their brand, is a lot bigger than Roseanne. They have to consider how continuing with the show reflects on them.

And in fairness, that's saying something.

I find it ironic that people can't see the difference between protesting/saying something from a personal account and when representing your team/league on TV in front of millions of viewers. They'd only be similar if Rosanne had made such comments in the middle of her show.

Both of those would be libertarians. They wouldn't be considered left wing at all I would have thought.

Adam Baldwin supported Ted Cruz for the republican primary.

Don’t remember the old Roseanne (the tv show not the person) being racist.

I heard a theory that in the 80s/90s TV shows were seen as healer for different issues, like with the Bill Cosby Show, where a black family was shown as totally normal with the same issues you and me might encounter.
In Roseanne then, homosexuality came up a lot and the struggles of the working lower class family in the new world, like Roseanne being told as she cannot use a PC she cannot be employed.

Amazingly, I don't feel the need to compare black people to apes when I've had a few tipples. I'm sure I'm not unusual in that regard.

Who didn't see this coming? It was pretty well known that she was not only racist, but also someone who has no self control. She was always going to torpedo the show.

I have sympathy for a lot of the people who lost there jobs due to Roseanne, but Gilbert who was producer should have know better, and shouldn't get a free pass, she knew exactly what kind of person Roseanne was and she was stupid to trust her, and it has blown up in her face.
