It started with a tweet from Roseanne Barr about ex-Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett. Jarrett was born in Iran to a black father and white mother. Barr tweeted what she claimed was a joke, comparing Jarrett to an ape and connecting her to the Muslim Brotherhood: "Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=VJ”

Within an hour, Wanda Sykes announced that she was leaving the show as Consulting Producer. Sara Gilbert tweeted her displeasure. A few hours later, ABC announced the show has been cancelled.

I think shes either looking for attention or just off her head to be honest. She has a track history of supporting liberal causes but after loosing out to Jill Stein in the Green Party nomination in 2012 it just seems like she's been all over the place.

Roseanne Barr is free to say whatever she wants. Twitter didn't pull her tweet. ABC didn't pull her tweet. Roseanne did.

And all the other Twitter members have the right to respond. This free speech thing works both ways.

And ABC has the right to pull the show. Their network, their brand, is a lot bigger than Roseanne. They have to consider how continuing with the show reflects on them.

It's odd, I don't remember the likes of Trump championing the right to free speech of athletes to protest. He said they should leave the country. Presumably he'll say the same thing about Roseanne Barr. Probably not.

In other threads, I've said I wished Ireland has this level of free speech akin to America. In the UK, this could land someone in serious trouble.
