What are the warning levels for thunderstorms? This definitely feels like a more severe event than a yellow warning would suggest. Torrential rain, surface water on roads is very bad.

Met Éireann's explanation doesn't provide much.

Yellow: Thunderstorms No Criterion – not displayed.
Orange: Thunderstorms Widespread thundery activity over an area of several counties.
    Red: Thunderstorms No Criterion.

Hot damn, these are some nice pics!

Seeing lightning now from north Dublin to my southeast.

Could be the cells off south Wicklow but it seems somewhat closer.

Seems to have died off a bit now. That lasted how long? Hour and a bit? Was crazy intense there for a minute.

Edit: Another flash and more thunder just as I posted that along with heavy rain

All that stuff is moving directly towards us through the UK at a rate of knots

Be interesting to see if anything makes it across the water.

Listening to Liveatc as well and watching flightradar. EIN7RE is avoiding weather immediately to his SE. Has made 3 or 4 course adjustments to avoid at this stage. Gives a good idea of where the cell is.##ATC reporting lighting over the city as well, probably some view from the tower.

Just above 19 degrees here and its nearly 10pm which is unusual, assuming it has to do with the storm. Expecting a few stray sparks in here in the city

Well I can say I got aot more then I asked for! Streetlights went off and back on there power didn't go through. Wifi seems to have died though

96+ mm/hr rain rate now in the Irish Sea cell. I've never seen that in a forecast let alone a live radar (usual grains of salt re accuracy)

    Wow.

Some really powerful crackling rumbles of thunder here in Cork for the last hour or so. Never heard anything like it for years.
